1. Apparently Charisma Carpenter or rather her breasts (Cordelia on Buffy and Angel) made an BDSM soft-core porn film entitled Bound which is reviewed here. The review is hilarious - in that at the end, it tells you where the movie is available, after informing us that it is the most offensive film ever!

Funniest line: I kinda thought that it would be impossible for there to be a more offensive representation of BDSM than Fifty Shades. Turns out I was wrong.

Warning - the review is not meant for anyone under the age of 17. Nor for that matter is the film. And no, I haven't seen it - really after reading the review, who would want to?

2. On a brighter and more G-rated note...A Star Trek 30 Day Meme...which I swiped from my flist.

Day 1 - Which Star Trek series is your favorite?

Hmmm...Star Trek the Next Generation. (I could never really get that into the others)

Day 2 - Who is your favorite character?

Jean-Luc Picard (although I also weirdly liked Captain James T. Kirk - I know I'm in the minority, everyone else love Spock or DATA.)

Oh on DS9 - Major Kira and Dr. Bashir (I would occasionally watch it for them.)

Day 3 - Who is your least favorite character?

Worf (also in the minority, but really not a fan of the Klingons, this may explain why DS9 never did all that much for me.)

Day 5 - What was the first Star Trek series you watched?

Star Trek the Original Series (I was a kid in the 1970s, I saw the cartoon series as well)

Day 6 - Your favorite canon pairing? (Canon being the series and the movies, including the reboot.)

non romantic: Spock/Kirk
romantic: don't have one...drawing a blank. Was not a Star Trek shipper. I think the closest I came was Picard and the Doctor (Wesley's mother)

Oh on Voyager - Tom/and the half Klingon, who I can't remember the name of but was played, I think by Rosaria Dawson (I watched Voyager just for them.)

Day 7 - Your favorite non-canon pairing?

Spock/Kirk
Janeway/Q
Major Kira/Dr. Bashir

Day 8 - Your favorite actor/actress? (Not the same as character.)

Leonard Nimoy tied with Patrick Stewart

Day 9 - What's your favorite episode?

*STNG -The one with Moriarity - where they say we too may just be characters in someone's box, and Morarity takes off with one of the characters to see what is out there.

Day 10 - What's your favorite species? (Humans are a species as well.)

Vulcans

Day 11 - What's your least favorite species? (See question 9 about species.)

Klingons

Day 12 - What's your favorite funny moment?

In the film - Wrath of Khan, when Kirk pulls a con job on Khan and then Khan realizes Kirk has outwitted him. "KIRK!!!!!" And KIRK: "So much for the superior race."

Day 13 - What's your favorite dramatic moment?

In the film, Wrath of Khan, where Spock has sacrificed himself for the crew and Kirk realizes he did it.

Day 14 - What's your favorite Star Trek quote?

Live Long and Prosper

Day 15 - How did you get into Star Trek?

College - we hung out in the lounge and people watched all the episodes. Although my parents loved it -- and took us to the movies.

Day 16 - Are you involved with Star Trek fandom?

No.

Day 17 - Have you read any of the books? If so, which ones?

No.

Day 18 - If you could be any species in the Star Trek universe, what would you be?

Vulcan

Day 19 - How did the Star Trek reboot affect you?

I loved it.

Day 20 - Of the minor characters (one shots, not the recurring ones) who’s your favorite?

Q

Day 21 - Which Star Trek food would you want to try at least once?

Drawing a blank. I know I'd avoid anything from the Klingons.

Day 22 - Which Star Trek world would you want to visit at least once?

Drawing a blank. I'm sure there is one...but can't remember. I know which one's I wouldn't want to visit. Futuristic Earth looks great.

Day 23 - Is there anything you'd want to change about Star Trek? Why?

I'd delete the first movie and on the reboot? I'd change the villain in Into Darkness, into someone other Khan. Do something brand new. Instead of a reworking of the best Star Trek film.

Day 24 - Is there anything about Star Trek that has disappointed you?

It was a bit too episodic for my taste. The characters didn't evolve enough. DS9 wasn't but it got too religious and war oriented.

Day 25 - How has Star Trek changed you?

Can't say it has.

Day 26 - Lots of Star Trek Parodies out there. Which do you dig?

Galaxy Quest

Day 27 - What would you cross over with Star Trek?

Doctor Who

[The cult British sci-fi series that began in the 1960s with the cult American series that began in the 1960s...]

Day 28 - Your favourite friendship in Star Trek?

Spock/Kirk

Day 29 - If you could tell Gene Roddenberry one thing, Star Trek related or not, what would it be?

Thanks for the memories.

3. Difficult week. But getting better. Publishing a book - is more stressful than writing one, just saying.

4. I've been away from BTVS and Angel fandom for so long now, that I can no longer remember the names of all the episodes. It's either that or my brain has had to delete a few unnecessary files for better storage.

Okay, 1) Eww. 3) Wishing you the best with the book. ((hugs)) for stress. 4) I feel ya. I was trying to think of Farscape episode names the other day and it felt like trying to dig through stone. IOW I really couldn't quite remember.

1) Yup, my thoughts exactly. (There's some seriously twisted stuff out there.)

3) Thanks. I've done everything I can afford at the moment. Afraid to do anything else. The worst part is having no control over it. It's like having a kid and sending them off to college. You can't control what happens to them or how people treat them or respond to them. You just have to wait and see.

4.) Yup, can't remember the Farscape episode names at all. Couldn't remember the names of the episodes for the Star Trek meme. And a lot of the specifics of Buffy episodes are beginning to fade as well...for instance, I forgot we saw Buffy's bathroom in other episodes. I think I'd fail a Buffy quiz if I were to take one now.

Charisma Carpenter - real life cheerleader, becomes TV cheerleader, becomes movie (cough, cough). Sounds about right. ;o)

ST Day 2. I don't think it's that rare that people liked Capt. Kirk. People liking William Shatner as a human being is another matter.

Day 3. My least favorite character would be Tasha Yar when she was a regular. In later guest appearance she wasn't bad at all. Second least favorite? I'll really go against the crowd and say Data. Too often he was either a yellow-eyed Mary Sue or a really hammy monster,

Day 6. I probably can't spell it, but Tom's girl was B'lana Torres.

Day 11. My least favorite species would be the Romulans. A cross between Vulcans (racially) and ancient Romans (in politics), they never worked for me.

* I tend, for the most part, to like the characters actors play, and ignore the actors.
There's a few exceptions. Shatner? I liked him in Boston Legal and Star Trek, but that was it. I ignored everything else about him.

* I don't think they knew what to do with Tasha Yar...hence her untimely death by tar monster. I think it was a Tar monster.

*B'Lanna Torres! That's who it was. Thank you! I loved that character, only Klingon that I liked.

* I have to admit it was hard for me to care about the Romulans, one way or another.
You're right...they didn't quite work as villains or characters. Not enough depth.

This post and the linked review seemed weird to me because I keep thinking of the Bound that the Wachowskis did before the Matrix films. The lesbian noir film with Gina Gershon.

Had exactly the same reaction when I saw the review. I thought - wait, you are giving the movie "Bound" an F rating??? The Gina Gershon female noir classic??? Really?
Then, I read the review...actually that was why I read the review.

So apparently there are two films entitled "Bound" out there. And this one is definitely not the one directed by the Wachowski brothers. (Or at least I hope not.)

Some people on LJ will flame you to hell and back if you refer to the Wachowski "brothers", as one of them has now come out as a trans woman.

Sad isn't it? For an honest mistake, no less. I just forgot. It wasn't a deliberate slur, it was just faulty memory or maybe I didn't know.

I mean I can see flaming a person for writing a discriminatory rant about transgender or saying something derogatory. But forgetting that some film director is trans? Really?

And what does it accomplish?

Wouldn't it be more productive, to politely state - oh, by the way, one of the Wachowski's is now female. Or to maybe donate money to a charity that supports awareness of transgender issues? Or maybe help raise money for such a cause? Or maybe provide a link to an article about transgender or a movie on youtube?

I mean, there are so many positive things you can do. And it doesn't take more than a minute to do them. But instead, people choose to launch a personal attack? To flame? What would have been gained by humiliating me for forgetting that one of the Wachowski's happened to change their gender?

And the irony of it, is it accomplishes the exact opposite of their goal. Instead of changing a mind or informing, they've alienated the person even further and caused even more dissent. So now, you have two angry and upset people.
