1. Game of Thrones --

* According to EW they've cast two heavy hitters for the sixth season of Game of Thrones. Max von Sydow and Ian McShane.

And its confirmed.

Von Sydow is joining the fantasy series as the human form of the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran Stark's mystical tutor, who was last seen in season four's finale. Sydow's myriad on-screen credits include "Minority Report" and "The Exorcist."

Apart from Sydow, "Deadwood" star, Ian McShane, is also joining the hit fantasy series in an unknown role. However, both McShane and Sydow will share limited screen time but will have crucial roles. Sydow has already started filming for the HBO series. Production of "Game Of Thrones" season six is underway as the series started filming at the end of July.

And it apparently has three seasons left, meeting its end in S8. (Will GRR Martin publish the 6th book before the television series concludes? Does it matter?)

In other news? Also according to EW, Canadian Literary Author Margaret Atwood is a huge fan of Game of Thrones. (Doesn't surprise me in the least, she also overwrites and in insane detail. Minimalist, she's not. Reading Atwood feels a bit like stumbling through a thorny bramble bush. Feel much the same way about GRR Martin. Although I find Atwoods wordsmithing far more poetic.)

2. Finally figured out where I'd seen Josh Charles before The Good Wife, Sports Night. I adored his character on Sports Night. He also has been in the original John Waters film Hairspray, Dead Poets Society, and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. His first role was at the age of fifteen in Hairspray. (Hmmm...he's younger than I am.)

Unlike various Good Wife fans, I didn't love the character Josh Charles played on The Good Wife, perhaps because I've met too many Will Gardner's in real life -- and trust me, the desire to give them a swift kick in the balls never goes away. Was a fun character to watch on television though.
But still a sleazebag. (My favorite character on the Good Wife is Diane, and the only romantic relationship I've shipped on that series is Diane and the Gary Cole Character. All my other ships are friendships....Alicia/Eli, Alicia/Diane, Alicia/Carey, Alicia/Canning. I liked Alicia/Kalinda as a friendship, but the writers didn't know how to write Kalinda and over-used the character. They aren't alone in this failing, most television writers struggle with it.

3. When you go out into the woods and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight, and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it. You see why it is the way it is. You sort of understand that it didn’t get enough light, and so it turned that way. And you don’t get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree. The minute you get near humans, you lose all that. And you are constantly saying, ‘You’re too this, or I’m too this.’ That judging mind comes in. And so I practice turning people into trees. Which means appreciating them just the way they are.

4. Hand-sold three more books tonight. I'm learning to not worry whether people like my book or not.
I've no control over that. My co-worker who is a published play-write tells me...that you should just cut the cord once it is out there. Be happy its read. But don't obsess over it or anything.
Hard not to.

The mistakes I've made were in the marketing of it. I've learned that advertising it on "Good Reads" and various self-publishing spots, probably wasn't a good idea. Wrong audience. Actually I'd say that's the hardest bit - the marketing.

Talked to another writer friend about it tonight -- and she said the only way you can ensure there aren't any typos or copy-edit errors is if you get a ton of eyes looking over it. Because everyone will miss something. And each time you look at it, you'll catch something else. It's the nature of the beast. This is impossible to achieve -- unless you have a village read your book before it is published. Probably easier to do as a fanfic writer - you can get a ton of betas.
