Yep, getting invested in a story arc in a serial, whether it television, novels or comics is akin to falling down the proverbial rabbit hole.

Spent most of today reading various X-men comics from roughly 2012-2015. Have stopped now. Will not buy any more! (Although wickedly fun reading these electronically, also far too easy to buy them. All you have to do is click and voila! After a while it adds up. Still cheaper than they were in the comic book stores.)

Was an interesting arc though -- one of the better arcs that I've seen. Where it's really not all that clear who is in the right and who is in the wrong, except both sides seem intent on solving their problems with violence.

What was most interesting about the arc, was that I found it difficult to root for the alleged good guys (aka The Avengers, Wolverine, etc) who were intent on killing the alleged bad guys, saw the solution to all their problems - killing the bad guys, and didn't seem to want to believe or aid them.
And hypocritically, I might add, forgave people who did far worse things.

There's a great sequence with the original teen versions of the older X-men, talking to the Avengers.
Teen Jean Grey discovers Scarlett Witch, who was a villain in her time period, had pretty much drive mutants to extinction. But you know, is a member of the Avengers. Even though she was responsible for Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and another team member's death. Yet, her powers were out of control -- so no big.
Meanwhile they can't forgive Cyclops, who while under the control of the powerful Phoenix Force, kills Xavier as he's, somewhat stupidly, trying to reason with him. The original students sort of call them on their hypocrisy. It's hard to see why Cyclops is the bad guy here...he's just training the kids, keeping them safe, and hasn't really attacked anyone. And much like Xavier before him, is forming the kids into fighting teams.

So interesting. Normally in these types of stories there's a definite bad guy and a definite good guy.
But nope. Just two groups making a series of bad decisions based on what they've been taught and doing the best they can with a violent legacy.

Oh, and apparently somewhere in there Marvel decided to kill off both Professor Xavier and Wolverine.
Curious if they actually stay dead. No one ever stays dead in comics. Will most likely stay dead for a while, until they do some sort of time travel retcon.

Anywho - the Brian Mendez X books are rather good. "All New X-men #1" and "Uncanny X-men issues 1-32, ending Cyclops arc with the team, where he goes off to find himself, leaving the team in Ororo's capable hands. Logan is dead. And Emma Frost has left for greener pastures.

Also took a walk to the park and back today. Feeling somewhat better ...less wired, still irritable and a slight headache. It's hot outside. I was sweating when I returned. But overall detox is working.

Still stumped on my current novel. I probably should just leave it and start something else.
Seems a shame to do so though after 130 pages.

I gather it's already been announced that Wolverine is being replaced with an AU version of himself when the current crossover event ends.

Luckily, I'm not invested in Wolverine's arc. That poor character has been overdone.
He's literally appeared in every comic in the Marvel Universe, and his origin story spans decades..with various insane twists, turns and ret-cons.

I did find the introduction of teenage female version of the character interesting.
X-23 aka Laura. (Who is briefly paired with a teen Scott Summers.)

Oh man, the Comixology app was nearly my downfall a few years ago. So easy to spend money!
