I think I'm getting burned out on television watching. Just finished watching another episode of Fargo, which is actually pretty good this season, but not quite as compelling as it was the previous season -- in part because I'm not really emotionally invested in any of the characters, even if I think this season is better written. Often my subjective taste is at odds with my objective taste. For example? I'm aware that certain books that I've enjoyed were horribly written, but something about the characters or situations or style was compelling, so I loved them. While other books that I know are beautifully written and amazing, I hated and found impossible to get through. Makes reviewing books and movies difficult at times. How to explain the distinction to your readership, so they can make up their own mind, because odds are that their taste isn't the same as yours. (ie. What I find compelling may bore you and vice versa.)

Tried to watch one of the movies that I have on DVD - but alas, not in the mood. I'm tempted to rent Ant-Man on On-Demand instead, even though I know if I wait a few months it will pop up on HBO. After watching two documentaries, and Fargo, I want a fun action movie with witty side cracks.

My New Year's resolution this year is best stated by an old Calvin and Hobbes comic strip, which is posted below. But in addition to that...I am committing myself to being less negative in my lj posts online. This means less critical of things. Trying to find the good in things. It's hard -- because I've gotten in the habit of being snarky about things, and a lot of my sense of humor is making fun of things that bug me, including myself. So I need to find a middle ground - a way to be positive and witty at the same time. Sort of like the Calvin and Hobbes strip below, by the great Bill Waterson.
