Trying out The Shipping Meme thing
Dec. 13th, 2003 01:22 pmgakked from
oyceter Because I agree
with almost all her choices. I'm not really a true shipper though. Except with fanfic, when I read it. On the show? I just want a good story and ships that evolve character. If the characters stagnates in the ship - kill it! Please? Outside of that? Anything goes.
An additional point - these are all my choices, I do vary from oyceter at times. But I'm lazy so I gakked some of her words instead of writing my own. ;-) So do not assume they are all her's.
ALIAS:
One True Pairing Ship: don't really have one. Probably Irina/Jack
Canon Ship: Jack/Irina, Sloane/Emily,Sark/Allison, maybe Will/Sydney
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" 'Ship: Sydney/Vaughn. I know. I think this is what happens when I watch shows without the internet. I form very unpopular fannish opinions. But then, fell in love with Buffy with S/B in FFL. Also, Sydney/Will. I HATE romance triangles with a passion. (Heh! I stold oyceter's comments b/c uhm she basically read my mind - this is "exactly" what happened to me. )
"You are one sick bastard" 'Ship: Er. Probably anything incesty. Alias I actually ship uncanonically, which is pretty rare for me. (yep she does it again!)
"I dabble a little" 'Ship: Havin's thought about it to be honest.
"It's like a car crash" 'Ship: Sydney/Vaughn
"Tickles my fancy but not sold quite yet" 'Ship: Sark/Sydney
"Makes no canon sense but why the hell not" 'Ship: Sark/Sydney
"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" 'Ship: Sydney/Vaughn.
"When all is said and done" 'Ship: Jack/Irina
BUFFY:
One True Pairing Ship: Spike/Buffy, Willow/Tara, and Giles/Jenny
Canon Ship: Spike/Buffy, errr... ok, all of them. Except Buffy/Angel after S3. It was over for me by then. (Also does not help that I've seen Lolita a few times since then and know for a fact that Whedon is a Kubrick fanatic...and used it.)
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" 'Ship: Ummmmm. Buffy and Dawn? Squick. Big time. Also Giles/Buffy.
"You are one sick bastard" 'Ship: See the nasty incestiness.
"I dabble a little" 'Ship: Giles/Joyce. Spike/Angelus, Faith/Spike
"It's like a car crash" 'Ship: Spike/Buffy, S6 nastiness. Yeeeeeeah. (yep me too!)
"Tickles my fancy but not sold quite yet" 'Ship: Anya/Andrew?
"Makes no canon sense but why the hell not" 'Ship: Spike/Xander,(I like the odd coupleness) Faith/Buffy
"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" 'Ship: Buffy/Angel. (I loved them in S1-2, Also in S3, after that? Done.)
"When all is said and done" 'Ship: Spike/Buffy. Note, this is not why I don't grok Buffy/Angel. I think it's her being in high school and the older man thing. (unlike oyceter, I watched from the beginning on both shows, and had loved the B/A ship, the writers just managed to convince me beyond a shadow of a doubt that these two people should not be together - they did it in The Prom, Lover's Walk, Graduation Day, Pangs, IWRY, Sanctuary, Guise Will Be Guise, Deep Down, End of Days, Forever, Fredless, and Life Serial. Also the advent of both Riley and how Buffy dealt and Spike...made it clear that Angel was her unattainable, romantic ideal but in reality?
A huge mistake. When I rewatched the episodes in S1 and S2, I also started seeing all the visual metaphors about Lolita - if you ever see the Stanley Kubrick version...you'll understand why I'll never look at Buffy and Angel the same way again...the scene in Becoming where he looks at her through the car window and she's sucking a lollipop, right out of Lolita, not exact, but disturbingly similar, as is the scene in Innocence when she comes to his apartment. And the scene in Passion when he goes after Joyce. )
ANGEL:
One True Pairing Ship: Wes/Lilah
Canon Ship: Wes/Lilah, Angel/Darla. (adding Dru/Spike)
Interstingly, Angel has very few canon ships I like. Liked Cordy/Angel in fic, but not in canon.
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" 'Ship: Wes/Fred. The sheer pain of humiliating rejection gets me every time.
"You are one sick bastard" 'Ship: Connor/Cordy?
"I dabble a little" 'Ship: Wes/Gunn, Spike/Angel (also Faith/Wes, and Darla/Dru)
"It's like a car crash" 'Ship: Angel/Darla, Wes/Lilah.
"Tickles my fancy but not sold quite yet" 'Ship: Spike/Fred (possibly Angel/Spike)
"Makes no canon sense but why the hell not" 'Ship: Lorne and anyone?
"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" 'Ship: I think in Angel I'm mostly with the majority. Or at least I have nothing I am pretty not into that everyone else is.
"When all is said and done" 'Ship: Wes/Lilah. In a messy, ugly, twisted fashion.
(Okay I admit, I just about used oyceter's words all the way through the Angel one...well with a few exceptions, but oyceter and I seem to be in almost complete agreement on the shipping thing. It's amazing...first one online that I've found.)

Date: 2003-12-13 07:06 pm (UTC)Syd/Vaughn
Date: 2003-12-13 10:50 pm (UTC)I think part of my problem is Vaughn just doesn't interest me. Too brooding. 0 sense of humor. As broody as Angel got, he does have a sense of humor.
Actually I'll amend that, I don't mind Vaughn when he's *not* with Sydney. I actually skipped whole episodes that focused on Syd/Vaughn romance last year.
Re: Syd/Vaughn
Date: 2003-12-13 10:56 pm (UTC)Plus, like Jack recently said, I don't think he has much of a backbone.
Re: Syd/Vaughn
Date: 2003-12-14 08:09 am (UTC)I was discussing this with cjl yesterday, and pointed out - Will at least has a sense of humor and he has more reason to be broody than Vaughn. Angel's broody sure - but Angel has plenty of reason to be. Vaughn's life may have been difficult but it's not *that* difficult - it's nothing close to what Angel's gone through, Sydney, Jack, Will, Dixon, Sark, etc.
Actually, the only times I find Vaughn interesting is his interactions with Jack, Sloan, Marshall and Lauren. In fact occassionally Jack will tease Vaughn just to get a reaction...LOL! I love Jack.
Re: Syd/Vaughn
Date: 2003-12-14 04:47 pm (UTC)*nods* Vaughn definitely hasn't had as much trauma as the rest of them! I especially feel horrible for Dixon, who I don't think gets enough attention. I rather like Dixon for his forthrightness and his strict sense of rightness.
Hee! I loved Jack's warning to Vaughn in the last episode. I also love the feeling that Jack, somewhere in the back of his head, is probably thinking of Vaughn as someone who's really very wet behind the ears still. I always feel so bad for Marshall because no one really seems to like him except Sydney. I'm very fond of Sydney because she's not as abrupt and condescending to him as everyone else tends to be.
Syd/Will vs. Syd/Vaughn
Date: 2003-12-15 08:13 am (UTC)[I love it when Jack teases Vaughn: "I like you, kid, but you're nowhere near good enough for my little girl. Oh, and if you try to make a move on her, Mr. Married Man, I'll rip your lungs out."]
On the other hand, how great was Will Tippin's comeback? He's the only person in J.J. Abrams' slightly surreal spy universe who seems to be aware of the aburdity of the plotline: "We have to intercept the courier in Mexico who's shipping the component of the Rimbaldi device to Istanbul, where Francie (who's not really Francie, and somehow not really dead) is waiting to smuggle the microchip necessary to take down Sark and Covenant, unless of course, Sloane is actually the power behind the Covenant, even if the masterminds behind the Covenant don't realize that he is, and..." Will's search for the perfect 1960s British rock-and-roll accent was a great commentary on Syd's seemingly effortless Mistress of Disguise accents (which don't always sound so authentic here). The series needs Will to ground our well-dressed Spy Barbie in something known as Reality.

Re: Syd/Will vs. Syd/Vaughn
Date: 2003-12-15 08:50 am (UTC)LOL!!! Ah why I loved Will Tippin in that episode so very much. Please bring Will back!
Agreed, the difficulty with Syd and Vaughn for me is they are a bit too perfect at times. It's why I like Lauren, who desires to be a spy but was kept out of the game, Will who got pulled into a situation he can't get out of and is making the best of it.
Re: Syd/Will vs. Syd/Vaughn
Date: 2003-12-15 06:22 pm (UTC)I think I cheered out loud when Jack said that to Vaughn. Either that or: "That's what I said! Go Jack!"
I have to admit, I'm getting much fonder of Will. I was really annoyed with him in S1 thanks to the "I will publish" "Now that you want me to publish, I cannot because I will hurt my friends" "Now that you are against me, I must publish!" see saw. Grrr. But after being kidnapped and tortured and having near death experiences, he has accumulated definite cool. And I loved his disguise ^_^. And how he was smart enough to pull a gun on Syd in case she was a double.
