Here's Lady Gaga's powerful performance of her oscar nominated song Til it Happens to You from the documentary film The Hunting Ground.
I think this song speaks strongly about any victim of any type of violence, particularly intimate or sexual violence.
We can maybe feel empathy or sympathy, but I don't think we can know what it is like unless it happens to us. And each crime is so different, they aren't comparable. And this is a crime that happens to men and women...as seen by the survivors who stand around her.
The only other reason was to see Chris Rock's performance and how the Academy was taken to task and discredited for it's lack of diversity in nominations across the board.
I didn't really watch it. I taped it, and fast-forwarded, just watching snippets here and there.
Oh, was wrong in my predictions. There were two surprises. Spotlight won Best Picture (which pleased me) and Mark Rylance won Best Supporting Actor (Bridge of Spies). And the first openly gay man won for Best Song, or so they said -- Writings on the Wall. Although I think I like the above song a bit better.
