A) Seven good things...

1. New haircut -- I actually enjoyed the experience, which is new..felt energized
2. pants that I bought online fit -- feeling better about being prepared for trip
3. rain washed snow away
4. got some writing done...it moves in fits and snatches
5. laughed and laughed and laughed at a tv show...or two
6. had a brief chat with an old neighbor who'd I watched grow up...
7. Good hot cup of tumeric ooco...(tumeric, black pepper, cinnamon, coco, coconut milk, almond milk and honey)

Hunting moments of joy in a cold drab February sky....knowing all is temporary, and memories we choose to hold...if nothing else.

B.) Finished watching the pilot of Emerald City -- it's much better than expected, not sure why the critics disliked it. I found it to be compelling and rather innovative in places, a nice twist on the old tales and an interesting commentary on sexism and gender roles.

Also the production value is quite good.

I've been watching Emerald City but with a lack of enthusiasm. I agree with all of your points, as it does a lot of the things I would want a show to do. Yet I find myself not caring about it. I don't know why it doesn't grab me. What reviews did you read? I haven't actually read anyone's opinion on it.

I'd have to remember where I found it, I think it was in EW. Was a while ago. In some respects I agree with the reviewer, who said more or less the same thing you did above...it's hard to feel compelled enough by it to feel the urge to watch that next episode. It's not that I'm not enjoying it, but ...I'm not in love the characters. There's something lacking in the performances and dialogue.

Right now the most compelling performances were Mumbai (Fiona Shaw), Glinda (Joely Richardson), and The Witch of the East who dies...and I sort of found her interesting and the actress interesting. Dorothy...should be more compelling but isn't, and so should Lucas.

I like it, but don't love it. Which is a problem when there are about 100 other shows to choose from.

I read that the Witch of the East had her part cut short because of work she was doing on Black Panther (or maybe it was the Civil War movie). But yes, I just don't really care about the characters. I do think that the cliffhangers at the end of each episode have been fairly compelling, which is about the only reason I've kept watching. Finding out the Wizard's backstory (or at least some of it) was a very intriguing choice and a very topical one at the moment too. But given there are only a few episodes left I'll watch until the end. I don't know how well it's doing ratings-wise though I did see that it had a good debut in the UK.

Only seen the two hour pilot so far...so, can't quite comment on the rest of it, yet. Oh, that's where I saw the actress in Civil War, as the Black Panther's aid. (She looked familiar.)

I'm also an incredibly moody television watcher. I go through periods in which I'll binge-watch and love one type of show, then hate it all of a sudden. Right now, I'm in a bit of slump...can't figure out what I'm in the mood for. Was discussing it with my brother last night via text messaging. He was also in a slump. Although our tastes don't always converge.
