Hello new people from LJ, welcome to the new digs.

Apparently, you can't import your journal any longer without signing the evil LJ TOS agreement, that no self-respecting contracts attorney and/or copyright attorney would sign in a million years. Sorry about that. I imported my journal prior to this development, so am not missing all that much. Just the Costa Rica Photos. (That said, it may not matter one way or the other...when you delete it, before or after signing the evil TOS.)

* Open Id You can however import all your comments via claiming an Open ID DW URL on LJ. It flips your comments to DW comments. I've set up a DW Open ID on LJ, in case I want to comment over there. It's not overly useful, because I find LJ impossible to navigate without an actual journal and flist. But, if you don't have that problem...DW has a lengthy email about how to do it and whole host of other things that can be found HERE. (Personally, I found this to be rather confusing, but maybe you'll figure it out. Of course part of the reason I found it confusing, is I claimed an Open ID prior to figuring out the non-scripts option. I tried to delete with the Open ID option -- it does not work.)

*Can I delete without signing the evil TOS? Yes, you can delete your journal without signing the evil TOS agreement. All you have to do is turn off the scripts, either by installing something like Ghosterly or turning on "No Scripts" via Firefox. Unfortunately, you can't do much else when you turn off the scripts, since it also turns off your comments and makes it impossible to post or read comments to friends journals. You can read everything, and you can delete your journal -- but that is about it.

* For people struggling with HTML? There is a cheat sheet on line regarding how to do it, which can be found HERE. Years ago I got a handy guide then promptly lost it. I know the basics, how to bold, do block texts, links, cut for spoilers, and italics, underlines, and cross-outs. I don't have a lot of patience for coding and formatting, but was forced to do some of it...because of some Buffy fansites that required it. (*cough*crazyassgeekyacademicswithtoomuchtimeontheirhands*cough*). I think I drove them nuts because I am not great at it. Not techy. If I was techy, I'd be making a lot more money and have a cushy job at some place like Google.

* Can I follow people on LJ or DW without being on one or the other? Yes. I have no idea how you do it though. There are feeds -- I tried setting them up for various lj folks' journals, but they didn't work, so either the people aren't posting, locking their journals, or it isn't working. You can apparently cross-post from LJ to DW and DW to LJ. I was crossposting from DW to LJ, until I got pissed off at LJ and deleted my journal on LJ. It's easy to do DW to LJ though. I've no clue how you do it from LJ to DW, I wish I did, because I'd have the Costa Rica pics now.

* There's a site on DW called lj_refugees with handy info on how to use DW.

* If you want to help the ostracized and disenfranchised Russian LGBTQI....DW has some links on how. Go HERE. This is an issue I care about - and am considering finding a way to help out. It's also at the top of the list of reasons why I deleted my LJ and refused to sign the TOS.

* In regards to this journal? I post about everything under the sun. See my bio information HERE for who I am, etc. I have widely eclectic tastes. Please don't bash them. I'm liberal, albeit, not quite as liberal politically as most of my Access list. I am a theist that leans toward agnostic, depending on who you talk to. Psuedo-Christian/Buddhist.

* Still haven't figured out how to post images. Vids yes. Images no.

* Loving the television series Legion. Best thing I've seen in a while. One episode left, once that's watched, will post a lengthy review. (Should mention that one of my guilty pleasures is superhero comics, if you hate them, please keep it to yourself. I don't want to know.)

Oh ending with a great Buddhist Quote that I saw today, that made me happy:

Buddhist author, Jack Kornfield: "If you can sit quietly after difficult news; if in financial downturns you remain perfectly calm; if you can see your neighbors travel to fantastic places without a twinge of jealousy; if you can happily eat whatever is put on your plate; if you can fall asleep after a day of running around without a drink or a pill; if you can always find contentment just where you are: you are probably a dog."

Genuine lol at the quote!

I've set up a DW Open ID on LJ, in case I want to comment over there.
I did this as well and then I heard Open ID accounts were having to agree to the TOS as well (which I was afraid of when I created it). I've yet to see it, though, so maybe Ghostery is still suppressing the dialogue box while allowing me to comment. Have you run into this?

Yes. I have no idea how you do it though. There are feeds
After thinking it through and poking around and talking with a few people, I think the better answer is probably 'basically no, but there are some fiddly work-arounds.' If you're willing to make an open ID account on the other site, I think you can use it to make yourself a little flist/reading list or to set up notifications for yourself so you get an email when the people you care about post. So that might be the best compromise option. Feeds do work in general (I have a few LJ newsletters and comms that I follow this way), but I don't think they're a great option for personal journals.

I've no clue how you do it from LJ to DW, I wish I did, because I'd have the Costa Rica pics now.
It's not a functionality that's built into either site. I think you could probably set up a work-around for yourself using IFTTT or a similar service. Apparently this is how some people post from Tumblr to LJ/DW. I'm not sure how that would affect your ability to them back up your comments to DW, though--you'd probably put yourself at risk for duplicate posts.
