NYPL's List of Influential Works in 20th Century

Here's the New York Public Library's List of Most Influential Works of The 20th Century, this list is different than the other book lists I've seen online. It is split into categories. It includes everything from speeches to plays to poetry to historical reports. Dates, authors, the original title and the English translation are included. This list was done partly in response to the outcry over the Modern Library's list.

I'm reproducing this list for my dear friends Rahael and Oyceter in particular, for supporting my book collecting habit. Read and enjoy.

The List is split into sections. I've put in bold the one's I've read.

Lolita is definitely worth a read, The Time Machine is a great in bed right before you go to sleep book - very relaxing, I also liked Dracula and The Turn of the Screw quite a lot - more good bedtime reading. And the Band Played On is very sad, but fascinating and really readable, I strongly recommend that one. The Autobiography of Malcolm X is another one that you should give a try - very, very interesting journey that he took, and so amazing to see where he had reached as a person when he was murdered - what a waste. I'll tell you, I'm a big Solzhenitsyn fan, but I cannot get through the Gulag, although I have tried on more than one occasion. After about 50 pages it makes me want to commit suicide - I'd avoid that one if I was you - however The First Circle and Cancer Ward are two of my favorite books - check them out if you're in a grim Russian mood, they're really fun...in a grim Russian way.
