Favorite Meme
May. 15th, 2017 08:40 pmAfter doing my abbreviated version of the epic meme, I was thinking of doing another sort of meme about favorites.. and now decided what the hell, instead of boring you by ranting incoherently about my bad day, I'd do the meme...so below here it is...
Favorite fantastical creature?
Dragons. I find them fascinating. Been flirting with a sci-fantasy series about a woman who studies them and write her memoirs in Victorian Times. Called Lady Tremount - "The History of Dragons" or something like that. Can't remember the name. Currently reading a paranormal historical romance about a woman jewel thief who steals the jewels by turning into smoke, one of her talents at a dragon -- takes place during 1700s in England. Very odd book. But fun.
Favorite sci-fi sub-genre?
Space Opera or I rather like political sci-fi, where there's some mystery or puzzle they have to resolve, often politically.
Favorite superhero team?
X-men
Favorite male super-hero?
Cyclops...I know, I'm weird, let's move on. I wouldn't reveal this to anyone but you, because let's face it you already know I'm way off the beaten track.
Favorite female super-hero?
Either Phoenix (Jean Grey) or Shadowkat
Favorite super-villain?
Magneto...when he was written well.
Favorite Star Trek?
Star Trek The Next Generation...although I oddly liked Voyager, which everyone else did not. (What can I say, I liked the cast.)
Favorite Space Opera?
Farscape (sorry BSG and Star Wars...Farscape was just more fun and had more depth)
Favorite Doctor?
Ten (keep in mind that I have no memory of the series past the reboot)
Favorite Companion?
Donna or Bill
Favorite Recurring Doctor Who Star that isn't a companion or the Doctor?
River Song (Sorry Captain Jack)
Favorite fantasy series?
Hmmm...I guess Lord of the Rings
Favorite Urban Fantasy series?
Kate Daniels series.
Favorite Science Fiction Book Series?
Don't have one, but maybe someone else does?
Favorite Historical Series?
The Chronicals of Lymond by Dorothy Dunnett
Favorite Mystery Series?
Hmmm...hard to choose. Read so many. I love the Vicky Bliss mysteries, but there were at least three bad books in there. And the last one was...unreadable. Loved the Dresden Files, but they sort of ran out of steam. Can't remember Travis McGee, even though I read them all -- but it was so bloody long ago. Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot...was good. And even ended well. Janet Evanouvich -- Stephanie Plumb got repetitious. I don't know. Maybe I just don't have one?
Favorite Romance?
See Mystery Series. Although did rather love Courtney Milan's The Brother's Sinister.
Favorite graphic novel series?
Persepolis?
Favorite comic book series?
X-men between 1985-2000, specifically the Chris Claremount/Jim Lee era. Also, X-men from roughly 2010-2015 or Brian Bendeis Uncanny X-men.
Favorite fantasy television series?
Buffy
Favorite teen series?
Buffy
Favorite comedy series?
MASH and Cheers
Favorite animated series?
Battle of the Planets when I was kid...also loved Monkeypunch, and anything by the guy who did Kimba and Spirited Away. More an anime fan than a cartoon fan. Cartoons tend to annoy me, because the art feels so basic. I like the anime for it's details and how it pulls you in, also the layers. Fell in love with anime when I discovered it in the 1990s. There was this video store near me in KC, which had a huge collection of anime -- and I'd just grab them. Then when I first moved to NYC, I was able to find pirated anime. I made friends with the guys who ran the video stores...not blockbuster, the smaller arty ones.
Favorite cartoon?
Scooby Doo, Where are You. I rather liked the Hanna Barbara cartoons, they had a plot. It wasn't just manic sketch comedy. Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, and the Road Runner frustrated me --- possibly because I was rooting for the wrong character. I kept wanting Sylvester to catch Tweety Bird, for Daffy to get the better of Bugs, for Wile E Coyote to capture the Road Runner. I was sympathetic with the wrong character. I thought Jerry was annoying and wanted Tom to eat him. This may have sprung from my dislike of embarrassment humor and slapstick? Don't know. Hannah Barbara's brand of comedy, I liked better -- there was a plot, a story, a puzzle to solve, and the characters were all somewhat likable in that I didn't want any of them to get eaten.
Favorite Disney Animated Film?
Robin Hood. Although the animation was admittedly not that great.
Favorite Anime Film?
Spirited Away
I love animation, not everyone does. My brother's best friend in high school went into animation and currently teaches it and runs a department on it. Our next door neighbor went on to do animation for Disney Studios. My brother new people who worked on Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas. (You do not want to work for Tim Burton, or Oliver Stone or Steven Spielberg...just saying.) So, I actually know quite a bit about it.
Favorite Science Fiction Film?
Bladerunner. I personally think it is hands down the best sci-fi film ever made. Nothing has surpassed it.
Favorite Super-hero Film?
X-men: Days of Future Past. (I think Dark Knight might be better, but I can't re-watch it. And I love Days of Future Past.)
Favorite Horror Film?
Terminator or Terminator 2: Judgement Day, also rather liked Tremors and Jurassic Park
Favorite Horror Television Series?
Buffy
Favorite Cop Drama Series?
The Wire
Favorite Hospital Drama Series?
St. Elsewhere or ER
Favorite Legal Drama Series?
The Good Wife
Favorite Super-hero Series?
Either Legion or Daredevil
Favorite Family Drama Series?
Gilmore Girls
Favorite Musical Series?
Nashville
Favorite Musical Episode in a non-musical related series?
Once More with Feeling
Favorite Soap Opera?
General Hospital
Favorite Comedic Movie?
Gross Point Blank
