Lucifer - S3- latest episode

Just finished watching Lucifer -- and...I'm still not feeling the love for Pierce. Or the attraction. It's not the looks, mainly because I adore Toby on This is Us, and he's heavier. Welling is just bland. So far it's not a big issue, but if Welling starts taking more of a prominent role? It may become one. Not that I think he will.
Anyhow, other than that and the serial killer story vibe (which I've mixed feelings about), I rather enjoyed the episode.
Also as an aside, they have a great soundtrack.
* Maze is back. Although I tend to agree with Lucifer that she really doesn't have much say in Dr. Linda and Amendial's relationship. Maze and Lucy are a bit alike, extremely self-absorbed, while Dr. Linda and Amendial are a bit a like -- push-overs, and a bit to amiable for their own good.
Trapped, he does listen to her though, albeit highly irritated.
(Note the camera likes skinny people with high cheekbones better then round-faced folks...why this is I've never been certain. I think light just bends around sharp angles better? At any rate, prior to her pregnancy, Maze had a sharp dangerous look, now she seems rather soft and not so dangerous. Of course that rather works with the character. Also, Welling looks sort of soft and pudgy, while when he was on Smallville he felt a bit less so.)
At any rate I loved the Maze/Lucy discussion through the steel door.
* Not sure what to make of the fact that Lucy was easily trapped within an reinforced steel frozen locker. He's the Devil -- isn't he invulnerable and supposed to have super-strength and get out of stuff like that? Desire isn't his only power.
Does he still have his wings? I miss the wings. They were cool. I want the wings back. I like the supernatural bits better than the cop procedural bits, which a)the writers suck at, and b) are sort of boring and predictable.
* Dr. Linda asking how the Angel powers work was sort of interesting, I enjoyed that. Particularly how Lucy played with her on it. He's not exactly forth coming on all his abilities or how they work, unlike his brother Amendail.
He basically can charm the pants off of it just about anyone, and reveal the truth. His power is shedding light on things -- rather ironic considering he's the Prince of Darkness. Which to be honest was what always intrigued me about the Lucifer Morningstar mythology -- the light-bringer or truth-bringer is the Prince of Darkness and Lies. Cool metaphor and quite apt actually. Because truth really doesn't shed light on things in the way you think. It often just shows more darkness.
Anyhow, I like the metaphor. Also like the idea of Amendail's power being the slowing of time and invisibility, while with Lucifer's power -- he has to look into the eyes to see the light of the soul, and pull out someone's deepest desires -- thus shining a light on himself as well. Because when you stare into someone's eyes, they stare into your own.
* The Sinnerman reveal surprised me. Although I think he's a dupe and working for someone else. Then again maybe not. My first thought was...he looks sort of tiny. The Sinnerman is not a big man -- considering how big Lucy, Charlotte, Amen, and Pierce are.
* Charlotte is acting a bit too much like Mum -- in that she doesn't appear to know what to say to people and is insanely awkward for a high-profile attorney.
I still think she has interesting chemistry with Ellis. More so than Welling does with Decker, although Welling is so bland he doesn't really have chemistry with anyone. But the writers are going overboard to tell me otherwise.
Ella: I saw chamistry there, rocking. But maybe not.
Chloe (nervously): No no chemistry.
Me: Really not, but keep trying writers.
Later...
Pierce: I sense tension here. (Welling tenses his jaw and tries to look interested)
Chloe: No, no tension. (she looks nervous and tries to look away from his hunky physique...I'm thinking what hunky physique? Really not seeing a hunky physique so much as a chunky physique. And really not tension here. But points for trying.)
I'm felling sorry for the Chloe/Lucy shippers. Also for the Maze/Dr. Linda Shippers. I'm not really shipping anyone at the moment. So I'm good. I am anti-shipping folks -- anti-shipping Chloe/Pierce, they have no chemistry and the idea of them together squicks me for some reason. Also, anti-shipping Dr. Linda and Amen, who I find sort of silly together. Maze/Dr. Linda, Maze/Amen works for me.
Dr. Linda/Amen not so much. The writers apparently want me to feel the opposite, I can tell, they keep pushing it, but it's not working. Sorry not happening for me, writers.
* Not sure where they are going with the plot. But it looks interesting. And yay, we get another episode before the break. (From the commercials, I have this sinking suspicion Fox is going to replace Lucifer for two months with the X-Files. Do not want.)
Also not sure why the Sinnerman felt the need to lock Lucy in the frozen locker -- what was gained?
Unless he wanted Pierce and Chloe to be together and for Pierce to win the day? Which seems odd, since Lucy wasn't going to be in on that anyhow.
He clearly knows what Lucy is capable of -- because he cut out his eyes, and stuck him somewhere he couldn't easily get out of.
If Maze followed Lucy, why didn't she see him get locked inside the frozen locker?
Sinnerman: You'll be stuck for days. No one has been here in 10 years.
(After about twenty minutes of lock-up)
Maze:Lucy I know you are in there, open up so we can talk.
So much for that idea. Considering he has a file on Maze, wouldn't he have known she'd show up eventually? (Or maybe that's Pierce with the file. Assuming Pierce and Sinnerman aren't working together.)
Sinnerman's actions are rather inconsistent.
Pierce says the Sinnerman killed his brother...but what if Pierce is behind the Sinnerman and holds Lucy responsible for his brother's death? Nah. That's been done before. I hope they don't do that. I don't think they are.
I've clearly seen one too many commercials for the SAW horror films, because when Lucy showed up in the frozen locker, with all the chains, etc and his captor shut the door on him and popped up on a television screen -- I immediately thought, Lucifer hasn't decided to reference the Saw torture porn flicks now, has it? (Was rather relieved it hadn't. Do not want.)
Overall, fun episode. Puzzling in a few places, but probably was supposed to be.
Thoughts?

Date: 2017-12-06 12:22 am (UTC)So far, Lucifer hasn't shown any jealousy...possibly because like me, he's not seeing the chemistry or relationship between Chloe/Pierce either? They appear to be trying to slowly build up to it. I'm rooting for Pierce to get killed or something before that happens.
Oddly the Pierce/Chloe thing reminds me of BTVS attempting to do a Robin Wood/Buffy relationship...and it did not work either. The characters have anti-chemistry -- ie. they repel the viewer with placed in a romantic relationship. BTVS wisely dropped the idea and went with Wood/Faith instead. I'm hoping Lucifer follows suit and drops Pierce/Chloe and opts for Pierce/Charlotte instead. (Not that I like that much better, but at least it isn't gross.)
