Lucifer - Season 3 - Episode 23
May. 7th, 2018 10:27 pmUhm.. Spoilers.
Damn it. They killed Charlotte. I liked Charlotte. And just after Charlotte and Det. Dan got together. Charlotte had chemistry with everyone, Pierce had chemistry with no one...except possibly Ellis. (See? Good actress = Tricia Helfer, Bad actor who is stiff as a board = Tom Welling. This is why Tricia Helfer keeps showing up in lots of television shows and films, and Tom Welling doesn't.)
Show? You were allowed to kill Ella and Pierce. Not Charlotte. Charlotte was on the please don't kill list. Weren't you listening? Oh well, at least they redeemed her and didn't kill off Amendial or Dr. Linda. I got worried about Dr. Linda, because I misread the preview trailer from last week. Apparently Amendial was sitting with Charlotte not Dr. Linda, when Pierce shot at him.
Okay enough ranting. I'm admittedly stressed over other things unconnected to this series. ;-)
What I liked?
* Amenadial getting his wings back so he could fly Charlotte up to heaven. Turns out he finally figured it out -- we choose who we are, and what we get to be, no one else does. We are the masters of our own fate. When Amenadial chose to get back his wings and fly Charlotte home to heaven, he got them back.
It was sort of a beautiful death scene. He stays with her throughout. She's killed in the same place she was previously, but this round she gets killed saving Amenadial's life -- rendering Amenadial immortal as a result. (And I can't spell his name at all. Henceforth it's Amen.)
Also her arc makes sense in a way, she reveals the man, whose actions she'd previously defended and had gotten her sent to hell in the first place. She shows how he was responsible for various murders and domestic abuse. (Lucifer's nod to the #metoo movement.) Falls in love with Dan. And becomes friends with Amen, who she helps and saves.
It's a sort of a counter arc to Pierce's -- who is given various opportunities to redeem himself, but always chooses the opposite. Pierce does what is best for Pierce. He falls for Chloe and loses the Mark when he decides he doesn't want to hurt her. But when she chooses someone else, he decides to kill an innocent person to destroy his competition, not caring about the collateral damage. Caine/Pierce hasn't changed in a millenial. He's still a murderer.
* I think Chloe is going to end up killing Pierce to save Lucifer. Sending Pierce to hell, where he will relive his actions with Chloe and her killing him over and over for eternity.
And I think Lucifer will fly him down there, giving Maze the option to go down to hell or stay above with Lucifer.
But I could be wrong and Pierce could end up killing Lucifer as the cliff-hanger. Except been there done that. Makes more sense for Pierce to die and Lucifer to fly Pierce to hell. Or Amendial to do it, except I think it will be Lucifer -- as a counterpoint to this episode.
And when he does so, Chloe will finally see that he is the devil.
Still annoyed by Charlotte's death. But as long as Pierce dies and is no more...I can live with her loss. I guess. She was great in the series and will be missed.

That would definitely make sense given where this episode left off with them.

Hmmm...you're right. She only has chemistry with Ellis. But then Ellis has chemistry with everyone and possibly Maze. But Maze also has chemistry with just about everyone.
They need to bring Chloe in on the Lucifer is REALLY the devil loop. It's getting old and the audience doesn't have the patience for that sort of thing much longer.
