1. Found the new season of the Great British Bake-Off (aka Baking Show in the US) on NETFLIX. This is the one that aired in 2017, after Sue, Mel and Mary Berry left because the show moved from BBC to Channel 4 in Britain.
It's really good. I actually am enjoying it more than the previous seasons. I think it needed to be changed up a bit. The new announcers are kind and an interesting change on Mel and Sue. And they've reintroduced the informational segments on some of the bakes, which were in evidence in S3 apparently but dropped for four through seven. PBS aired four through seven and is just now airing the earlier seasons. While Netflix got exclusive rights to the current and future seasons airing on Channel 4.
NETFLIX already has secondary distribution rights to the previous seasons.
I really like the male comedian who took over for Sue, along with his partner. Also I adore Prue, who is the new judge. I actually like her MUCH better than Mary Berry, who got on my nerves. Paul's also less grumpy and nicer in the series.
I can't bake, or I can but I'm not great at it and rarely do it any longer. a) Live alone. b) suck at measurements, and c) gluten intolerant and to make gluten free bakes, you have to be precise on measurements and ingredients, also very patient. (I'm neither.) My idea of baking is taking it out of the box, following the directions on said box, then laying with the icing and directions. Of with cookies, playing with the ingredients. I'm horrible at following the directions in a recipe -- I tend to cook intiutively and am rather good, just not with backing or certain things that do require precision.
BUT
I find watching baking shows really comforting. Also cooking demonstrations. Really like watching people cook. I think it takes me back to my childhood, when I would sit in the kitchen and watch my mom or grandmother...and chat with them, licking the spoon when they were done.
2. Tired. Going to bed. Early wakeup call tomorrow. 5:15 AM. 6:00 AM car service. Moved it up.
Won't have any access to the DW while I'm gone. So...see you when I get back.

Date: 2018-09-02 08:00 pm (UTC)It's always interesting to see something through others' eyes - Noel Fielding & Sandi Toksvik are household names over here. Sandi is (literally) the female version of Stephen Fry and Noel is... a magical elf. ♥ Anyway, I still remember when they were announced as the new presenters, it's what made me want to check out the new show.
