Well I've been busy - putting out feelers, and throwing lots of different irons in the fire.

Accomplished so far:

1. Job interview with Temp Agency tomorrow. Completed & printed off two copies of temp agency resume, uncovered information on previous employment for application, re-took Excel test on Learn2 software to prepare for agency tests (not great - I think I may just have to invest in MS Windows XP Office, assuming my system can handle it)found passport to prove US citizenship, and printed off list of references.

2. Researched insurance company that I have an interview with next week. If anyone out there knows anything about Liberty Mutual? Let me know before next Tuesday. It's an Assistant Manager job. Feels like a long shot, but I plan to work hard to get it. Considering re-doing resume to match position, although they already have a copy of the one I'd been using before the evaluators tore it to pieces. Apparently it's better than I thought since I got an interview from it. This whole job search deal feels like a crap shoot at times.

3. Walked ten blocks to B&N and bought three business magazines. First Fortune 500 - which lists and ranks the top 500 companies in US to work for. Also has some articles on management. Second (a publishing magazine) - to see how they do their science fiction fantasy reviews - I might get some work reviewing sf books for this mag. Third Writer's Digest which lists writing resources and tips on self-editing and getting freelance work. I'm going to attempt to gut and revise the monster this summer (that's my novel for those who are wondering) - not sure it's possible, but I have a ton of helpful comments on how to do it now.

Trying to feel positive about all this, also not get overwhelmed by all these different things I'm attempting. That I'm not just pounding on doors that lead into more empty rooms. It's hard doing this solo, no one to give you a hug when you come home from that interview, or tell you it's going to be okay that you don't suck and yes that suit you are wearing looks great... speaking of which, I'm wondering if I need another ward-robe enhancement. Not that I have the money to afford one. Have mostly pant-suits - due to the fact that I cannot walk in heels and feel awkward in them. Nothing but heels looks good with a skirt. Damn what I wouldn't give for a full length mirror or a person to check me out in my ward-robe before interviews. Being perpetually single sucks sometimes.

In other news...if you haven't looked at it already, check out Ocipital's essay on "The Story of ME" over at Angel's Soul Spoiler Board. Fantastic. (Another one to look at is [livejournal.com profile] tightropegirl bit about writing Tru Calling.) Describes how each and every Mutant Enemy Writer got their job with Mutant Enemy, how the production company was constructed, and how transistory television writing truly is. Before you expend/waste too much effort criticizing the plot arcs of tv shows, I'd take a peek -it demonstrates how much of a collaborative process this truly is and how miraculous it is to get a well plotted season of a series. Honestly? All things considered, they did an amazing job.
