There's a DVD review on S6 BTVS that explains in a nutshell
why this season of all the seasons on both Ats/BTVs has a special place in my heart and may be the one I remember the most.

If it weren't for this season - I would not have written one essay, one review, or continued to watch Angel The Series, which I'd given up on and people online coaxed me into trying again. It also may be the only BTVS DVD I'll purchase, assuming I get my hands on some money to purchase it. ;-)

The reviewer also puts into words the reason the character of Spike continues to captivate me in a way that Angel, Xander, Gunn, Wesely, Giles never could. It's the reverse of the old axiom, instead of a man fighting his inner demon, we have a demon fighting his inner man and the man winning out in the end. (The reviewer states somewhat the opposite I know, but I think it's clear - the soulless vampire has the demon in the forefront, the man behind.)

What ultimately redeems Spike is his desire to be good in the face of such evil. Angel was cursed with a soul. Xander has a soul that seems to be getting rusty. Spike, in the meantime, has to work everyday, every moment against the demon that lives inside him. He finally reaches the brink after he tries to force himself on Buffy. When last we see Spike at the end of Season Six, he is enduring life-threatening trials on the other side of the world with the hope of being restored to his “former self” (“Villians”). I must admit the fake out is pretty good. Whedon and the gang throw in just enough confusion so that it might appear that Spike hopes to return to his former, bad self. For Spike to return to Buffy as the monster he once was—that would be far too simple. Spike is coming back with his soul, or he’s not coming back at all. But there’ll be no fancy gypsy curses for this vampire. He gets his soul back the old-fashioned way: he earns it.

And yep I may still be in the minority on this one, but my favorite song from OMWF and the only one I clearly remember after all this time is "Rest in Peace" - why? The poetry of it people. The poetry. Also it's so perfectly delivered in my opinion by the actor, who performs the song as opposed to just singing it, - a character that is hiding his inner poet. Slightly and fittingly off-key (not that I'd notice being tone death), in English accent, and delivered from the gut. Moves me every time. Also foreshadows his future relationship with Buffy perfectly. 'Course I'm also in the minority on S6, even after criticizing it, it's still the one I wrote the most about and still the one I remember the most.

In other news - have an interview this afternoon with Citzen's Union, to be their *volunteer* archivist. Basically this entails coming into Manhattan twice a week and archiving old documents. Have mixed feelings about it. It's unpaid. Spent an hour this morning trying to figure out what the heck to wear.

Yesterday, after five consecutive nights of nightmares about showing up naked in public places, I decided to upgrade my ward-robe. I have no decent interview suits. I need to look polished. Tailored. So found a sale at L&T, and got a two nice black suits with a white dot pattern. One a pants suite with a jagged white stripe/dot pattern, subtle. The other a skirt/jacket number with white dot pattern. Both 50% off. Tahara and Context. It was torture getting them though.

I hate shopping. Really despise it. Took three and a half hours of my time yesterday to find two suits that I could afford. Could someone please explain to me the appeal of "shopping"? I just don't get it.

1.How is searching through cramped clothes racks for a size, fun?
2.Or looking in a three way mirror in poor florescent lighting at your body fun? (I suppose if you are skinny and think you're hot stuff, it might be.)
3.Or lugging suits around hunting for a smaller size or a different color - fun?
4.Or finding something you love, but does not fit- fun?
5.Finding something you love, fits, but can't afford-fun?
6.OR finding several things you love and having to make up your mind amongst them- fun?

Sorry, just don't get it.
Ugh. Of course my hatred of shopping could be genetic - mother hates it, grandmother hates it. I just have no patience for it.

There's also a nifty book meme going around that I hope to post on at some point. But not here. This entry is long enough as is.

I was with [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 and she found some stuff, but it was *so* not my colors or styles. Or prices. What some people will pay for a flimsy little bit of bright pink or lime green cloth.

Agreed. Of course I'm not into trends - I like clothes that fit more than one season, are versatile, and can last more than a year or so.
(Probably because I hate shopping and want to do it as little as possible. LOL!)

I don't know if you've seen my "I hate shopping!" rants in my LJ. They're few and far between because they usually coincide with my *actual* shopping trips, which are few and far between and involve me holding my breath, running into Sears and running out again a few hours later with several mis-matched items.

Oh yes! I've seen them and loved them. Made me laugh in complete comisseration and understanding. Don't always respond. I'm bad at responding in livejournal...since I'm not online all the time like I used to be.

Yep, your experiences fit mine. Can't decide what's worse sometimes the shopping or the bills that come afterwards.
