Jan. 4th, 2019 09:59 pmLucifer - Season 4
Urg. I keep looking for the release date and all I've found are weird spoilers. Some of which got the plot of last years series completely wrong.
What I was able to figure out about the release date? It will be released in 2019, sometime. And Netflix will release the ten episode arc in two segments, with the first five episodes released world-wide at once, so everyone can binge them. Get hooked. Subscribe for the next five. By the way, Netflix prefers to do 10 episode series arcs. It cancelled Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist partly because the owners of those series aka Marvel refused to limit them to ten episodes, which is cheaper for Netflix to produce and air. (I don't know why ten is a magic number for Netflix. Kominsky Method was 10 episodes, as was Haunting of Hill House and Sabrina. I always thought we needed at least 13 episodes to get a DVD, but I guess streaming channels don't care about DVD? (shrugs). Will state, it does make for a tighter and better written story -- less room for slacking off. And Daredevil would have been better for it -- it drug in the middle. Also ten episodes is really easy to binge, thirteen is a tad harder. Why? You can binge five on Sat and five on Sunday, one weekend, without overkill. Thirteen is 6 hours, 6 hours, plus an additional hour...much harder. Audiences are fickle. Plus bandwidth -- Netflix has a lot of content.)
They've added three new members to the cast, including a new villain.
* Father McKinely (played by the actor from PREACHER, which I think may be from the same universe...it's also DC comics.)
* Eve (who is one of the Illim (a demon) -- daughter of Lillith, and the Original Sinner, per the Neil Gaiman comics not the biblical text. Okay, was Gaiman slightly misogynistic in his comics? Oh say it's not so, Gaiman.)
* Remel - the sister of Lucifer and Amendial.
What doesn't make sense in one of the spoilers... Adam was last season's villain played by Tom Welling. [Eh, no. That was Cain. I think whoever wrote this blurb hasn't watched the series. There's another EW spoiler that makes more sense.]
Speculation is that they are building up to Lillith popping up in the series as the major foe. (And the actual Queen of Hell.)

Date: 2019-01-05 04:17 pm (UTC)What they'll probably do is release the first five episodes around April or May, then the next five around July and August. They do that a lot.
My difficulty with Netflix -- is I never know when they are releasing new episodes, and I have troubles finding things on it. I have to track it on DW or the internet...otherwise I'd have no clue it was on.

Date: 2019-01-05 06:59 pm (UTC)I don't think this is true. She's just Eve from the Bible. The same as in the comics. Nothing to do with Lilith at all.
As for the release date, no idea. But at least you know you'll be watching it on Netflix. This side of the Pond, we don't even know that much yet. Currently, you can still watch the first three series on Amazon Prime.

From what I've been able to gather...Netflix grabbed the US rights to S1-onward.
S1-3 are currently running on Netflix in the US. Although Hulu also seems to have rights to the first three seasons at the moment.
The spoilers seem to indicate that it will be released world-wide. I just don't know where. I find distribution rights confusing in this day and age.
