TV Shows Returning in 2019
Jan. 13th, 2019 10:40 amToo many frigging tv shows to even contemplate. I scrolled through the list and went, uhm, okay, there's a lot of television shows on isn't there? No wonder I keep losing track of them.
[Also as an aside -- the shows popping up in the Winter and Spring are far more interesting now than the ones that pop up in the Fall. Weird.]
* Netflix Release Dates in 2019 -- since it's Radio Times, it may be for the UK version, although some of these should appear in the US concurrently -- since they are US shows.
* 40 Most Anticipated TV Shows in 2019 according to Rolling Stone's critics
[Note the critics like a lot of television series, I personally find unwatchable - I don't know why television critics like misanthropic and or humiliation centric situation comedies, but they do. So I ignored those. Also ignored darkly violent shows like the Punisher and Jessica Jones (which I've lost interest in), and anything on Starz, Showtime, and channels I can't get. So go to the links.]
* 2019 TV Premier Dates Calendar According to Rotten Tomatoes -- and no they don't include dates for either the Expanse or Lucifer, I know, I looked.
[In no particular order -- mainly because I've figured out that I don't like putting an order to things on lists or otherwise. I always misfile things and just shove it where it fits. I don't like to rank in anyway.]
1. Killing Eve - S2 - BBCAmerica April 7th.
2. Game of Thrones- Final Season HBO - April
[Why is everything popping up in April and February, you ask? Because these are major ratings months, when they track what people are watching. Also most of the filming is completed in either early December or late January.]
3. Deadwood Movie - HBO - Spring (I'm only including this for the die-hard Deadwood fans on my list, who most likely already know about it.)
4. Stranger Things S3 - Netflix July 4th.
5. Big Little Lies S2 - HBO -( doesn't say win, but if I had to guess in the summer after GOT completes it's run).
Big news on this one is Meryl Streep joins the cast as Alexander Starsgard (the guy who was allegedly killed by the ladies in S1)'s mother.
Also the novelist (who wrote the book), Liane Moriarity is more involved.
6. The Crown S3 -Netflix 2019 (doesn't say when -- if I'd have to guess, the fall)
It now stars Tobias Menzes (Outlander) as Prince Philip, Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth, Helena Bonham-Carter as Princess Margret, Ben Danies as Margaret's husband...Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles and Emerald Fennel as Camilla Parker-Boyles.
7. Veronica Mars - Hulu 2019
The broadcast network (kind of; it was UPN) TV show that became a Kickstarter-funded movie is now a streaming series. Kristen Bell reprises her title role as a pint-sized gumshoe who’s quick with a quip and quicker to solve dangerous cases. The movie at times felt like an extended, if understandable, bit of fan service, but Mars creator Rob Thomas promises the Hulu show will, in addition to bringing back many other familiar faces, return the show to its film noir roots.
8. Lucifer S4 - Netflix 2019
9. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina S2 - Netflix April 5, 2019 (yeah, I thought it was insanely soon as well. Apparently it did REALLY well.)
10. True Detective - HBO - January 2019
After three-and-a-half years away, True Detective finally returns to HBO this month. Even with changing schedules, that's a long time out of the game, and yet it might be the best thing possible for the series.
The show suffered when it was rushed back for a second season, and the time away has hopefully allowed creator Nic Pizzolatto to craft a much stronger story. He's certainly got the right man for the job, with Mahershala Ali cast in the lead role as Detective Wayne Hays.
The new case takes place in the Ozarks and takes place in three different time periods, following the disappearance of two children, which should allow for True Detective to get back to telling a great mystery.
Sciatica going down the Leg drove me nuts last night, so when the pain finally went away (two Aleve's later and a cold pack), I overslept, missed church, and decided to take it easy. Do some exercises today, and not bend too much.
