1. My lap-top is wishing me a Happy Birthday tomorrow. Which is interesting. In the 21st Century -- I have electronic equipment or inanimate objects notifying me that it is my birthday - tomorrow (as if I don't know) and wishing me a happy one. Not sure what to make of that. I remember a time when a computer didn't do much more than print out what you typed into it.

Also got a card from my bank. My mother's hasn't gotten to me yet, but hey, my bank's did.

2. Went to the Tolkien Exhibit at the Morgan today... Is it worth it? Well depends on whether you are into the Tolkien and his books. I liked it partly because I'm fascinated with the writing process. And similar to the Bowie exhibit -- this delves deep into his process. He created timelines. Drew maps. Drew the characters and the landscapes. And sketched the symbols and created the language long before he began writing the story.

Also apparently the story just popped into his head, fully formed. As if from an external entity, although it existed no where else. He didn't base it on anything, it just came to him. (I get that -- that's how stories come to me.)

Also he was a gifted graphic artist - or designer. He doodled designs on newspaper articles or anything really. And created the design for the jacket covers of all of his books. He also created paintings, ink drawings, etc for the Hobbit -- which he thought were horrible. I loved them as did his publisher, who included them in the book.

And...he spent most of his life on a series of stories that made up the Simillarion -- he cared the most about these stories, and none of them were published until long after his death. The publishers didn't think anyone would read them and just wanted another Hobbit story or continuation of the Hobbit.

Rather fascinating exhibit, and quite lovely in places. Afterwards I went to the "Extended Moment Photography Exhibit", the "Renaissance Drawings Exhibit" and the Contemporary Drawings Exhibits. Then, had lunch in the Morgan's atrium. The food was good, the service and the seating atrocious. They put me in the table next to the staff entrance, so the staff just kept logging in and going in and out of the office entrance next to me. They should not have a table there. Also took forever to serve me, take my order, or take the check. That said -- it was a good chicken salad with kale, pecans, and acorn squash. Also the Paris Unsweetened Ice Tea was light and lovely. I loved the tea. Wasn't too expensive for the City, about $25, $29 with tip.

Afterwards journeyed back home and picked up a slice of Flourless Chocolate Cake, with rasberry sauce and whipped cream, caramel and dark chocolate drizzled popcorn from the local chocolatier, and some fish, filet mignon, etc from the grocery store.
Also a little wine.

Having red snapper tonight, with seasonings, olive oil and lemon, along with broccoli, cauliflower and yellow summer squash. Red onion on top. (Hmm...liked the veggies better than the snapper.) With sparkling white wine, and a chocolate covered marshmellow bunny rabbit for desert.

It was a lovely and relaxing day, not too cold, sunny, and I didn't have to think. (I really needed a day away from work.)

Tomorrow going to the Rubin with Wales. Wales is actually fun to go to art museums with -- she's a former art history major turned legal secretary. Knows a lot about art.

4. Finished that sci-fi romance novel (which is the Smart Bitches book club selection) that I was talking about -- it wasn't very good. Sort of boring actually.
I did a lot of skimming.

Am considering borrowing Simillarion from the Brooklyn Library, as opposed to buying it. I really don't need any more books. Have far too many as it is, and no room for more. Even the basement of my building doesn't have room for more books. I suppose it's a good thing to have too many books? If you are a book-a-holic who loves books, which I am, probably. My dream growing up was to be surrounded by unlimited reading choices -- guess what, I've achieved that.

Did pick up three new comics and a romance - Uncanny X-men 2018- #12 (they ended it, and then renumbered, they keep doing that with the Uncanny X-men. Technically it's probably more like Uncanny X-men 1012), Black X -- stories about the X villains (Clairmount's Magneto, Sceanne McQuire's White Queen/Emma Frost, plus two or three others.), and Age of X-men - Prisoner X. Also picked up a romance novel on sale entitled "Three Wishes" about a genie who grants a young girl her wish to meet and fall for a man who is like the guy in her romance novels and that he loves her completely, but they have to go through hell to be together. (Sigh, be careful what you wish for.)

3. Taking a pseudo break from the computer this weekend. Not reading as much. And spending less time on it. I think I need to do that more.

Oh, and The Favorite finally became available "On Demand" - definitely renting that this weekend. Meanwhile, I need to figure out how to cancel Hulu on the firestick and grab CBS All Access -- which has more series I'm interested in.

Yes, I rather miss those days. I don't like all these "smart" things. Happy birthday!

Yes, I've had this happen too. Though I find that less disturbing than your messages sent to you by Apple. Glad you enjoyed the museum exhibit. Happy Birthday!

The Tolkien exhibit looks great but I am pretty certain I won't be coming to New York before it closes and it doesn't look to be coming out my way. Maybe I'll order the book.

Happy Birthday!
