In another post, I was asked how bad the mass shootings in the US are...

So, here you go:

Map and Statistics of Mass Shootings in the US since 2013.

"So far in 2019, 179 people have been killed and 615 wounded in 161 mass shootings."

In 2018 --" 340 Incidents, Killed: 373 Wounded: 1347" (that was at the end of 2018.)

Note -- mass shootings are considered by the US Federal Government to involve a shooter indiscriminately or seemingly at random selecting four or more people to be shot and killed.

The news media only covers it if four or more die. Or more than 10 get injured. National news no longer mentions it unless it's far greater than that.

The sad thing is? I'm no longer shocked. Look at the link and check out each month...the Month of May maybe had a total of 11 days without a mass shooting incident. There's 31 days in the month of May.

Or in this case the NRA lobby and the second amendment.

The misinterpretation of the second amendment. I don't see John Smith down the block being a "well-regulated militia."

Exactly. It was set up to put together militias, in order to defend property (slaves -- horrifying but true), against an tyrannical government and at that time, all anyone had was muskets.

Co-worker who studied constitutional law (as did I, but his memory's better on this) stated that what no one talks about is the applicability of the amendment. It's no longer applicable in our society. We don't need well-regulated militias...also good luck using your militia to fight a government that has "drones". Somehow, I don't think John Smith's militia will survive a drone attack. Our government has access to weapons that local militias don't know exist.

Although you are correct they are putting the interests of the defense contractors and gun manufactorers first...hey, they need those campaign donations...

I've a friend who is writing a book on how the NRA through media manipulation and marketing has managed to make it impossible for gun control legislation to go through.

Yeah, the best thing that could happen in this country would be for the NRA to go bankrupt.

I keep hoping. My friend who is a media studies prof at the University of Arizona has been visiting gun shows and NRA conventions, doing tons of research, and is writing a book about how they've successfully manipulated their image and marketed it. I don't know how she does it. I despise them.
