1. Headspace app is a mixed bag...
On the one hand it gives good advice: "Be kind to yourself in meditation and in life"
On the other it reminds you of what you do not currently have in life and the problematic nature of that:
"Try following the breaths of child, pet or partner and see what happens."
Which is hardly conducive to a calm mental state. If anything it just depressed me.
Like I need help in that department? Stupid app. It really needs to stop assuming that everyone with the app has kids, partners, pets or people like that. Not everyone has the same life. You cannot treat all people the same way.
2. Jeff Epstein's death. My difficulty with the whole Epstein thing is the man has the same name as someone I used to work for at video game company -- so I keep getting confused. They aren't the same man, but ...Also, I've toured and been inside a prison, so I know it's relatively easy to kill people in prison. Therefore, there is no doubt in my mind that Epstein didn't commit suicide and someone murdered him. Nor is there any doubt that we will never know who did it and they'll get away with it. The whole thing is depressing and infruriating. But hey, at least one asshole dead...
3. Laid low. Struggling with book -- the one I'm writing. In regards to reading, the comics I've been reading are better than the novels.
I'm equally bored with television -- hence the Marvel movie watching. Although tried Age of Ultron this afternoon -- after taking a brief walk to pick up groceries -- only to fall asleep during it. There's a couple of movies in the line-up that didn't quite work for me or are slow, Ultron (Whedon sucks at actions sequences, he's enamored with big picture moments and weird quippy turns of phrase that don't quite work with characters. Whedon's dialogue isn't as distinctive as the later writers - who came on board for Winter Solider and stayed through Endgame), also Iron Man II is rather cringe-inducing in places...as is Thor Dark World. The Captain America films are actually the best single hero flicks in the line up, with Iron Man and Black Panther being the best of the stand-a-lones.
I need to get out more and interact with people. Although it's not as if I'm not interacting with people -- just not with people that...well...which is making me very frustrated. The universe and me are not in sync at the moment, although not sure it in sync with anyone --except possibly my niece who appears to be living a charmed life. She's making a lot of money as swim instructor this summer and saving up to buy a car.
Also, have been having sinus issues today. No idea why.

Date: 2019-08-12 02:51 pm (UTC)I think you're right about the Cap films being the best single hero flicks -- all three films are solid. The Hulk still qualifies as the worst stand-alone, I think. That one will often take us two evenings to get through if we're trying to do a Marvel re-watch because it just drags. Even Dark World is better (and, boy, do I wish they'd made different choices with that one).

Date: 2019-08-12 04:53 pm (UTC)Well, there's two Hulk films. Edward Norton or the Ang Lee version? I found both slow and dragged. But the Ang Lee version is one of my brother's favorites. I tend to forget about them. Both were horrible. The Cap Films surprised me. So too did the Ant-man films. The first Iron Man less so -- because we had Downy Jr being well Downy Jr -- but it was also surprising in its own way. But the Cap were the best, the Hulk, Thor Dark World and Iron Man II drug, and had the worst moments. And yeah, I agree Hulk was by far the worst.
