Well, there's a party going on down below in my livejournal. If you read the posts, I think they be overdoing it on the champagne a teensy bit or the anti-jinxing spray. ;-)

Seriously though, thank you guys&gals, pets and hugs flist and livejournal. I thought about responding to everyone individually but thought it might be better to just thank everyone in a new entry. Hope that's okay. Have to admit, I sometimes forget people read these entries. Bizarre I know, especially considering I read my FList. But there you go. With that said, I'm cutting away again, so as not to take up too much space on your flist's.

Without you guys and gals, I doubt I would have gotten this far (well I might have, but you've made it more endurable, sort of writers/job hunt/interest support group all rolled into one that has no boundaries outside the ones inside our own heads, although admittedly, I forget people actually read this (like yesterday) and am sometimes completely surprised by the responses. Don't know why, I read my Flist. Even if I'm horrible at responding to it. New job will make responses and livejournal entries even less frequent, I'm afraid. )

A huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] redredshoes who pointed me to that resume guy (see my memories - for the guy's advice) whose lj post aided me in retooling my resume in May. The retooled resume I posted on careerbuilder.com - was the resume that the staffing company found, which led me to this opportunity. So it wasn't really a fluke - it was a series of random and not so random choices and help that led to it. It is truly amazing how the little things we do for each other can sometimes have the greatest effect.

But...don't get too excited everyone, this is right now JUST a TEMP position, complete with time sheets, checks from staffing company, no sick days, no lunch time paid, and 0 benefits (although temp company does have health care package that I'm considering looking into). It's not a permanent full time position. It could last a week, two weeks, three months or go permanent. No one knows. But it is an opportunity and that's more than I've had in a very long time.
And from reading other livejournals, it's more than others have right now, so it's nothing to scoff at. One of the things I've learned on this journey is how not to take things for granted. And I do, all the time. I admit. Human fraility I suppose.

So I'm *not* complaining or anything - getting a decent temp position which could possibly go full term? at this point is something to celebrate as anyone whose read my livejournal over the past six months knows all too well. Hence the party going on below. And I'm certainly not one to look a gift-horse in the mouth as that old cliche goes. Someday when this is all over with? I might write a book called the Incredibly True MisAdventures of A Job Hunter in the early part of the 21st Century. Think Bridget Jones meets Spaulding Gray. But right now, very happy to be joining the ranks of the freelancers, consultants, and temps. Believe me.

In other news - the non-profit job interview didn't go very well. Will be shocked if they call me back. Sort of ambivalent about it in any event. Have decided that human resources may be a) too difficult a field for me to transition into with my background and b) not that great a match after all. So refocusing on the legal analysis, contractual negotiation, contractual administration end of things. Which this job fits nicely with. Pluses of new job: while it is similar to the job at evil company, it does not contain what I hated about that job, instead it contains what I sort of liked. Or so I think. This is an assumption based on very little information. In which case, maybe I should shut up now before I jinx myself?
I'll let you know at the end of next week what the job is like.

Mother and I did go out and celebrate last night at a French restaurant in my area fitting considering it's a French company), called Quercy (one of the best French restaurants in NYC in my opinion - there's one in Chelsea as well, very pricey though, Brooklyn's version is a little cheaper. I had
Chilled Aspergus Soup with Creme Friache, Quail Flambe with raisins, scalloped potatoes, french string beans, and a glass of white wine. Mother had a whole trout with shittake mushrooms, the soup I did, and some water. Since we didn't finish eating till 8:30/9pm, we skipped on desert, besides it was already pretty pricy. I had a Hagen Daz Dark Chocolat Ice Cream Bar to celebrate surviving the interview today. Hot muggy day in NY. Hopefully will cool down when I start next week - bright and early at 8:30 am.
