1. Been having a bit of a day, nothing too serious, just one of those days where if there's a sign that says "bang head here"...it's well a fitting metaphor. Although I did manage to wish my mother a happy birthday. My family is rather low-key on birthdays.

Won't bore you...well, suffice it to say...it was a difficult day. Things did not go my way. Ie. The type that drives one to drink.

2. For people who feel the need to discuss The Good Place episodes... Here's a DW community devoted to it

I don't feel inclined at the moment. The Good Place is hit or miss for me lately.
I'm really only watching it for the philosophical humor, the rest of it? Meh. And I don't care at all about the characters -- because I don't really find any of them relatable, except for possibly Chidi.

To give you an idea? The best bit to date was in The Girl From Arizona Part II, where Chidi informs Simone that she has fallen into solipsism , where you think that you are the only thing that is real and everything else is a construct of your imagination. It's rather juvenile, he points out, and self-centered. It also is a bit lazy, because you don't have to treat anyone with kindness, or work at all -- because nothing is real except you and it's all in your head. (Made me think of the Matrix and Wizard of Oz -- in that the central characters have a view at one point that nothing else is real, same with Alice in Wonderland.)

The philosophical humor is a hoot and innovative. Everything else is your standard run of the mill sitcom schickt (which I can't spell to save my life, but I know it is a word or at least I think it is one.)

Oh well, YMMv.

I'm behind with tv at the moment. Also, I only have access to the Optimum channels, Amazon, Netflix and HBO. Which is more than enough.

3. Reading a Nora Robert Contemporary Romance about a composer turned college professor and a ballet dancer turned toy store owner. It's sweet. Not a lot of conflict, and the conflict that exists is more internal than external. I find it
mindless and comforting. Except when my kindle gives out on me -- due to not being charged, which it did today.

4.What's the Difference between Seltzer, Club Soda, and Sparkling Mineral Water -- apparently there is one? Who knew. If I were to guess? I'd say the sodium content.

Eh wrong.

Let’s start with the most basic: seltzer. Seltzer is just plain ol’ water, carbonated with added carbon dioxide. This is the bubbly stuff that’s most likely to come flavored, since it’s such a neutral canvas; it’s the base for your LaCroix and those less-delicious Poland Spring flavored guys you get at the bodega.

Club soda is also carbonated with carbon dioxide, but unlike seltzer, it has the addition of potassium bicarbonate and potassium sulfate in the water. These minerals give it a slightly saltier taste than seltzer, which makes it a favorite of bartenders for mixed drinks.

Sparkling mineral water is made with natural spring or well water, which means it has naturally occurring minerals (like salts and sulphur compounds) in it. These minerals sometimes give the water a natural carbonation; other times, carbon dioxide is added for extra oomph. Depending on where the water’s from, it might taste heavier than seltzer or club soda — or you may just detect some sort of presence of taste, unlike its more-tasteless brethren.

Been wrong a lot lately, it's weirdly liberating to be wrong. More so to admit it.

I never knew what the difference was either. I knew that sparkling mineral water was the original and seltzer is a made up version (which sounds like that's true) but I thought club soda was just another term for seltzer. Clearly not (though why any of them are used in alcoholic drinks is still a mystery to me, other than as a way to water down the alcohol).

So club soda is seltzer with some added salts to make it taste more like spring water?

When I was a kid my family went with my uncle's family to visit Platt National Park in Oklahoma. The place has long since been downgraded and folded into a larger National Recreation Area which has a man-made lake. (Chickasaw NRA to be exact.) There was nothing there at the time but springs (not even hot springs) and maybe a bathhouse we didn't go near. I remember they had seven or eight drinking fountains together out in the open, each with water from a different local spring. One or two were all right tasting, another couple tasted off, but were drinkable. The others were downright nasty which going by the old saying 'If it tastes bad it must be good for you,' meant they were supposed to be good for you. Maybe it was more like 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger,' but I've never since looked forward to drinking spring water carbonated or otherwise.

I'm sorry to hear you "had a day." Those are not fun.

I hope that your weekend is much better.

"Schtick" or "shtick" is indeed a word. "He's living in Hollywood now, doing his usual shtick."
