1. Probably should stop putting up posts that are too long to read? Random discussions with niece this weekend made me realize we didn't really share the same tastes in entertainment, although some intersect, and this is to be expected since I'm in my 50s and she's a teenager. I want sex in my stories, she really doesn't.
Discussed Buffy in a round about way.
ME: My Aunt dated this really cool guy when I was younger, he wore a black leather jacket, had white blond hair, and rings in his ears, he was also -
Niece: Wait! That sounds just like...have you seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
Me: Oh yes. Big fan. Loved Spike. Anyhow Aunt's friend turned out to be gay.
Niece: Spike was also probably gay. But how couldn't you be into Angel? He was so mysterious and romantic?
ME: Possibly, I think he was more bi- actually. Well, for one thing I watched it differently than you did. And I was much older. I was in my late twenties and early thirties. And I watched it live, I didn't binge watch it. There were breaks. And I watched Angel at the same time -- so I was into Buffy and Angel until about Season 4, when there was that episode - where he becomes human and then erases her memory -
Niece: Oh yes -- it was so tragic, and painful.
Me: Made me despise the relationship and realize they weren't ending up together, so I pretty much went where the story did..
Niece: But Spike was really more into Angel.
Me: Possibly true.
Five-eight years ago this may not have gone well. Now? I honestly don't care if she shipped Angel or Spike. Not sure why I cared then. Hormones?
2. Caught up on most of my television shows..
* Grey's is irritating me - the Meredith storyline is not working. Stop already.
* BOB Hearts Abishola continues to be amazing and I laugh my head off during it. Also, I adore the Nigerian accent -- it's better than the British accent, my lyrical. Heard an interesting story while visiting my brother -- he was recounting an interview by Marlon James, the writer of Red Leopard, Black Wolf -- which my brother is currently reading. He said that James states in the interview that many Africans stopped trying to speak the "King's English" when they realized it was taught to them by Brits as the servants language -- and they sound like Butlers.
James also said that the African culture is very different than Western European Culture -- in that midnight to the Africans is the safest time, mainly because the ghosts of their ancestors come out to protect them from the actual monsters. Their monsters aren't vampires that crumble in the sunlight but monsters that will eat them when the sun is high at noon. Also, treating mental illness in Africa is difficult according to the James interview because the voices aren't negative ones but positive ones, telling them things are okay, and everything will be good, and they are great people.
* A Million Little Things -- I don't think Maggie and Gary are going to work out. Also the women in this series are insanely selfish and irritating. I keep wanting to smack them. And the men, doormats, I want to smack them too. However, I can't stop watching for some reason -- I like some of the characters. It's also weirdly reassuring to watch these people screw up their relationships for no good reason but self-centeredness.
* This is US -- they are doing a decent job of showing the effects of PTSD on people who went to War, and their families. Also it always makes me cry. And I found the sibling problems relatable and reassuring.
* The Good Place --- eh, I was admittedly relieved they didn't go the predictable route with the Ted's Double Gag, but at the same time, weirdly disappointed with how quickly it was resolved. But it was funny in a way. (Yes, I have a sick sense of humor, we know this.)
* Legacies -- Josie needs to go. Sorry, she just does. Alexis Denisof's character is intriguing. So is the Lizzie/Sebastian/Milton angle. And I find Hope and Alaric intriguing as well as the new Sherif and her kids. I really like the Sheriff's kids -- actually like them better than Josie.
I'm thinking Josie is this year's wolf in sheep's clothing? Possibly always was. Metaphorically speaking.
* Nancy Drew -- has gotten better, and creepier. They are playing up the ghost angle and doing it well. With people sort of seeing it but not quite. Nancy has gotten odd sightings, as has her father's client, but her father remains oblivious -- even though I think the ghost is angry at him too. I find ghosts scarier than most of the other stuff. Mainly because I believe in the possibility of ghosts, not all the other things.
Sigh, I still have television shows on the DVR. But I did ditch Poldark finally.

Well maybe ten years ago? Now, not so much. Of course it helped that I read the comics and in the comics she ends up with Spike, Angel ends up with Faith -- which is as it should be.
