1. So..saw the first two-part episode "SpyFall" and "Fugitives of Judoon" from the new season of Doctor Who and I understand why everyone got excited.

Those three episodes were quite good. Excellent in fact.

Also..

* I like the new MASTER, and he has quite a bit of chemistry with Jodi Whittaker's Doctor. The actor is very good at showing the complexity of The Master. Actually they've done a good job of casting the Master over the years.

* The new companions are growing on me. Yaz is becoming increasingly interesting. And there's a neat on-going joke about everyone mistaking "Graham" for "The Doctor".

* This may be the most diversified casting of the show in its entire run. I find it quite satisfying, if I consider that ten years ago, I was stating it was hard to take the series "social justice" theme seriously when it was so white and somewhat chauvinistic. The times are changing. I'm seeing it across the cultural landscape, and in social media -- there's a pattern embracing diversity. I also see it in my workplace, my church, my community...

You really have to look deeper than the political landscape. The cultural landscape shows where things are going. It always has. Watch the cultural trends.

That said, I never thought - in my life time that Doctor Who would shift. And it has.

* There's another Doctor, and they cast an POC Woman. The mislead was the man - who I kept thinking was Captain John or possibly the Doctor. Just as the mislead in Spyfall was Barton as the Master, when it was in reality Sachwan.

I like the new Doctor. She doesn't replace Whittaker's Doctor, however. She may well be a different timeline -- or, from the timeline they sent the doppleganger Tennant Doctor and Rose Tyler, although that seems a bit far-fetched. Particularly since I think that version of the Doctor became human. In this timeline -- Gallifrey isn't burned at all.

* They've brought back the Time-Lord back story. And there's a mystery as to why The Master felt the need to destroy their homeland. How did they lie to The Master and The Doctor?

It's become more serialized and less episodic like last year, with an over-arching mystery. This works better for the writer, I think, who isn't really an episodic writer but a serial one. He needs an over-arching mystery that is character centric to dig his teeth into.

Rather loving this season of Doctor Who -- and here, I was about to give up on it. If it weren't for my correspondence list I would have.

2. Ugh. I ache. And I don't know why. Using heating pads and cold pads. And stretching. Hopefully will be able to sleep. Off to do that now. Sorry for the crankiness.

More reassuring than the political ones ...
