Feb. 23rd, 2020 03:56 pmI think I'm a little depressed, can't get myself motivated to do anything. Sinus headache most likely is not helping. The pretty blue sky and budding trees out my window are taunting me. It's supposed to be in the low fifties at the moment. I did go and get groceries at the Food Coop and Farmer's Market on Courtelyou, second time gone down that way this weekend. It's about a thirty minute walk one way. Yesterday went down there -- only to discover at checkout that I'd left my wallet at home and in another bag.
Been that sort of weekend.
February uglies.
1. Television? Making my way through Sanditon - it's not like the book I read, and more than a little disappointed. I loved the book, the adaptation feels lacking in humor somehow. Also I liked Sydney Parker in the book, while in the adaptation I kind of want to smack him upside the head with a cricket baton.
Also saw Stumptown -- I appreciate the additional character development. But show? Do not put Dex and Grey together as a couple, DO NOT WANT. Sigh, they don't care what I think, they are obviously putting them together.
I'm not sure if Matt Fracton did in the comics or not.
Also, the flash-forward gimmick is getting old, stop it already. Just tell the story. I honestly think television writers get bored and add gimmicks thinking they are being clever.
What I liked? The character development and the writers poking fun at movie making.Hollywood is very good at poking fun at itself. Also, there's apparently a mystery as to why Dex's parents took off -- it may not be for the reasons Dex thought. And it's a nice contrast to Grey's confrontation with his Dad.
Tico/Ansel/Hoffman get to play up the comic relief. Tico is starting to get on my nerves, and needs to be reigned in a bit more.
The Witcher S2 - won't probably premiere until 2021, which is annoying. It's only eight episodes - you'd think they could air them each year. But apparently not. Maybe this is a UK thing? Doctor Who has a year lag time, so too does Discovery of Witches and Killing Eve...and now the Witcher -- all are produced and filmed in the UK.
2. I glanced through a few article links to post -- and ...well, the one's that didn't make me want to commit Hari Kari, gave me a headache, so I decided to spare you. The internet is not always conducive to mental health - just saying. Also, as an aside, someone is marketing the video game Forge of Empire's REALLY hard. Either that or Firefox wants me to play it for some reason. It keeps popping up, four or five times. I don't quite have the heart to tell them that I'm not into games.
3. I'm amused, my Uncle (who lives in Michigan) just posted on FB that people should stop pestering him with their keystrokes, he's a long-suffering Republican who switched his status to Democrat and already voted in the primary by absentee ballot.
Hee Hee. I think a lot of Republicans will be doing that this year. Also a lot of people who registered third party. I did - I switched from Green to Democrat.
Meanwhile cousin broke her no politics on FB rule by posting that they discovered Russia was interfering with the primaries to get Bernie Saunders to win the election for the Democrats. His campaign had been informed.
Sigh. 98% of my family is united behind one thing: We hate populist fascist candidates.

Date: 2020-02-23 11:04 pm (UTC)Ugh. Mike did that today, headed off on a long walk and was planning to stop for some ice cream -- and I realized 10 minutes after he left that his wallet was still here.

Date: 2020-02-24 01:21 am (UTC)Your uncle sounds like a guy I'd find amusing.
I really enjoyed The Witcher, and I will patiently wait for 2021. Sort of patiently.

Date: 2020-02-24 02:59 pm (UTC)I keep waiting for the big case that'll draw all the players together--including Tookie, Sue Lynn Blackbird, Lt. Cosgrove (Camryn Manheim) and Lionel Hoffman (Steven Williams). Right now, they're teasing us with major plotlines (what happened to Dex's parents, how exactly did Benny die), but those personal quests probably won't be resolved any time soon.
(If Dex finds and forgives her parents or comes to terms with her part in Benny's death, she'll be much healthier emotionally--and the series is over. Because she's more entertaining as--forgive the term--a hot mess.)
The CotWs are fun, but I feel the series has a higher gear in reserve. Maybe next season.

Date: 2020-02-24 06:26 pm (UTC)I don't know - it feels like they are following the framework of the comics fairly closely. Sort of episodic case of the week, with over-arcing character arcs. I don't really see them pulling every character into one big case. I was surprised we got the undercover take-down -- that kind of did. That may be the closest you'll get? Although the hit woman is in the wind, as is the hot Irish guy, and we still have why Dex's parents took off without a word, and why Benji died... I don't think either are easily resolved scenarios. I think Dex was directly responsible for Benji's death - and that's hard to get past. And her parents may have left because someone was after them....which is tricky. They may even be dead.
Agree though...they need to move away from the romantic pairings among the lead characters. It's not working.

Date: 2020-02-24 06:41 pm (UTC)Maybe I want the big case because Sue Lynn and Cosgrove have been on the sidelines lately-- and they're the show's best actors.

Date: 2020-02-25 01:10 am (UTC)Agree on Sue Lyn, also I'd add Camryn Mannheim, along with Sue Lynn's head honcho. I want more of the Native American group -- I find them interesting and different.
But, I don't have control over the dumb writers. Sigh.
