First a little confession - I hate politics. Oh I was briefly obsessed with politics in 1984-1992, but I grew out of that.
And to be honest? I don't think I've *really* liked any of the presidents since possibly Eisenhower, wait, maybe Roosevelt? and that's pushing it. Both political parties annoy me. I hate extremists. And tend to be moderate liberal depending on where I happen to be residing on the map. In NYC - I'm moderate. In Kansas or South Carolina or Georgia? Raging Liberal. Suffice it to say - I *never* bought into the doctrine of Family Values, even when it was first introduced in the 80's by Dan Quayle and his ilk. I find the whole thing irritating and hypocritical and verging on fascism.

That said, there are a couple presidents I didn't mind too much: Carter and Clinton. Carter was a good man, not a great president maybe, but a good man. Was too young to remember anyone before Carter - so just have history to go by. Was never a Reagan fan, his policies annoyed me and I found him impossible to watch - which is amusing considering I've actually seen *him* in person. Way back in 1987. Weird story.
Considering I don't like the guy. Didn't hate him. Just wasn't fond of him. And never voted for him.

In college a friend, Lucy, and I decided to play hookey from class one day. It was the day after Halloween. We'd spent the weekend watching horror flicks at her family ranch with a bunch of friends. Everyone else had gone home hours before - since we were in the same class, we played hookey and stayed later than the other kids. On the ride back to school, Lucy suggested going to a Reagan Rally instead of going to class. Reagan was visiting the rally of a Colorado Republican Senator at the Broadmoore hotel in Colorado Springs. Lucy was a Reagan fanatic, I didn't like Reagan but was mildly curious.
What happened? Well...Lucy, stalwart American/Brit (she had dual citizenship between UK and US - adored Thatcher) and Republican to the core, tells the tale this way:" I'm sitting in the stands and Reagan comes out, I literally have tears in my eyes, then I look over at 'Kat(ME), and 'Kat's looking at the protesters with a guilty/forlorn expression on her face as if she's wondering if maybe she should be joining them." (Reagan was actually about 50 feet away from us at the time and I could barely make out his features, but hey...we were in the same room.) LOL!

Like I said, hate politics. So here I am going into work each day, attempting to ignore the idiotic Republican National Convention. I have nothing against Republicans, a couple of my friends are Republicans. I just happen to despise the individual the Republican's chose to run our country is all. John McCain or Colin Powell - I could tolerate. I actually sort of like Powell at times. And it's not like I'm nuts over Kerry. But I *despise* the current regime. GWB doesn't have *any* redeeming value in my opinion. I can't think of one good reason to vote for this person nor do I understand why anyone would.

So far it hasn't been that bad. Course I have it easy - the train I take doesn't go anywhere near Penn Station or Madison Square Garden. I work in Midtown but closer to 6th Avenue.
Today, saw nothing out of the ordinary. Security? No different than it's been for the past week. The building I'll start working at in September is closed this week because of the Convention - but since I'm not there yet, that doesn't affect me either really, except to the extent that I might have started there earlier if it hadn't been closed. Tomorrow may be interesting - since that's the day we have the huge mid-town rally. Starts at Rockerfeller Center at 4pm and threads its way down to Bryant Park and 42nd Street by 5pm. Ugh. Just when I leave work. Hmmm. Ironic this. It's not the convention goers that will make my life hellish, but the protesters.

Dang Bush. Why couldn't they have it in Kansas City, or Atlanta, or even Boston - they would have been much happier there? Those cities don't hate them.(Yeah, I know, I know, he did it to prove how he's the *terrorism* prez and NYC's savior. Poor NYC. It will survive it, take it in stride. But if you are a New Yorker, you are most likely as annoyed by this as I am, and it is yet another reason in a long list of reasons never to vote for Bush.
