Mar. 22nd, 2020 09:57 pm1. Took a brief walk up to Church Street, then down halfway to Avenue C and back to Beverly. There's a sidewalk along Ocean Parkway that has a bike path next to it, and goes up to the park - also pretty much all the way to Coney Island. It has benches along it and hardly anyone walks down it. So it makes for a good social distancing walk.
Also, exercised - did wall squats, pushups, lunges, stretches, and pulled out my hand weights and other yoga exercise materials. I plan on exercising two times a day, at least, with a meditation. I need to do this to combat the anxiety and depression, along with sitting all day long over a computer.
2. Cleaned house. It helped. I cleaned and removed a lot of the clutter, including cleaning off my desk entirely of everything but the blood pressure monitor. I'm going to try to set it up as a work station - as much as possible. I can't get a desk top or monitor or arm mount, so am trying to do it with the lap top in this manner, it may or may not work. I have another lap top that I also may use - since it has a bigger screen for writing docs. But that may or may not work and it's ten years old, this is just three years old.
But I can breath now. Cleaned out the air purifiers, shut the window in the bedroom, robot vacuumed, and dusted. Suddenly my sinuses are magically clear.
3. Watched the end of "The Greatest Showman" and decided to record the second playing of it - on F/X. I love that movie. It makes me happy. And it's fluffy and uplifting, with fun songs. It made me very happy. I'm going to see if I can find Singing in the Rain on streaming. I have it on DVD - but alas, I can't figure out how to hook up the DVD player to the new tv. I know I have something that will work but can't find it.]
Right now, I'm watching fun stuff as much as possible. Fun and comforting. If it gives me anxiety or annoys me - I turn it off.
If you have fun, fluffy, non-adrenaline or non-stressful shows to recommend - have at it. Also the less realistic or more fantastical the better - such as historicals, romances, musicals, comedies, animated films, relationship soap operas - that sort of thing. Or fun action movies - with lots of cartoon violence and the good guys win.
4. I never thought I'd say this but 1) New York City is officially closed for the duration. And 2) thank god for the Governor of New York - who decided to lock down NYC to save lives and flatten the curve. [ The Governor visited Central Park, was horrified by the people not taking his directives seriously - and is putting tougher restrictions in place. It's a big park, they can spread out. He was understandably annoyed. What can I say? People are stupid - if they can't see it, don't have it, it doesn't exist.]
They've closed everything but essential businesses. Restaurants and bars can do take out and delivery, but that's it. I may start doing take out just to keep them in business. Although I've plenty of food at the moment. Enough to last until April 9, I think.
It was determined by crazy organization (pretty much all government run organizations in the US are nuts), that I was non-essential and could work remotely from home along with my entire department and all my co-workers. I wish I'd brought more files home with me -- but it was kind of impossible. They are bulky. And we were given bad directions. Also I was pissed off at the time.
Oh, well off to bed. Have to get up at 6:30 - so I can shower, eat, and set myself up. Granted I probably don't need to shower -- but it wakes me up and makes me feel good. Also, I dress in jeans and shirts at home, or yoga pants. I don't do pj's - I keep bed and day attire separate - or I won't sleep and will constantly be doing laundry of said pj's.
I want to go at least two weeks until I have to try and do laundry again. It's kind of a nightmare in NYC. I do it in the basement or I have to send out for someone else to do it. I think it's safer if I do it, personally.

Date: 2020-03-23 05:26 pm (UTC)I don't know if you've ever seen What's Up Doc? I rewatched that a few years ago and found that it totally held up to my early declarations that it's my favorite movie. Life of Brian is Mike's contribution.

Date: 2020-03-24 12:37 am (UTC)Greatest Showman has a weakness - the whole Jenny Lynde bit did not work and I kind of wish it wasn't in there. I always get bored during it. Everything else does though. It's an odd movie - there are some excellent song and dance numbers in it, but the story and plot are very weak.
