1. New York vs. the Slimeball in the White House

Well...it's official, Crazy Agency let me know today that I get tomorrow off - as a state paid holiday. All Crazy Agency employees, union and non-union, get it off as a paid holiday, and no, it's not eligible as a floating holiday. So, they didn't wait until next year - New York made Juneteenth a holiday for all its employees NOW or as of today. As I told Chidi, "we don't know what's going to happen next, we just found out we get tomorrow off as a paid holiday, literally today or one day ago. The 2020 roller coaster ride continues".

Also, Go Team#NewYork! Team#NewYork rocks!

Meanwhile the Slimball in the White House continues to find new and innovative ways to make me (and anyone with a conscience) despise him. He manages to do it daily -- it's extraordinary really. I mean no one has managed to find ways to make me hate them more every single solitary day for five years straight. That's an accomplishment in of itself.

What's interesting though - is the Supreme Court the Slimball put in place, overruled two of his dictates this week. Surprising everyone. We all have whiplash.

Supreme Court Rules Trump Cannot End DACA - they basically said that there isn't anything Unconstitutional about DACA.

Supreme Court Will Not Hear Gun Cases - Blow to 2nd Amendment Gun Rights Backers

Reporter to Governor: So what do you make of the Supreme Court decisions? Did they surprise you?
Governor (most likely wondering why they are asking him this question): What do I make of it? Well, that he put a conservative team in place, and he's managed to go further than they can go along with - he went outside of their boundaries, and they are ultra conservative. The fact that he managed to go beyond what his own picks can stomach says something.
Reporter: Are you sure you aren't running for office? Like maybe Vice President with Biden? (Reporter sounds hopeful.)
Governor: No, I'm not running for office. If I was no one would take me seriously. I have a job, I'm sticking with it as long as the people of New York will have me.

Apparently 59 Million people watched the Governor's Live Briefings. This bemused the Governor - because there's only 19 million in our State. The Governor has decided his next project, outside of monitoring the Coronavirus and restructuring the MTA, is to restructure and reformat the police and justice system. I truly wish him luck in this endeavor, he is going to need it. Restructuring the police and justice system across the entire state kind of make restructuring the MTA and battling the Coronavirus look like a cake-walk in comparison. We have a seriously corrupt Justic system, from the police all the way up to the courts and prisons. I found this out in Law School.

Oh, as an aside? Linked In - which is a business networking site - have six businesses view my profile, and they surprised me. Three were social justice organizations that I actually would not mind being a part of - if they'd have me, but I don't think I have the right experience. One was "Free the Slaves", one "the Fight Against Human Trafficking at the UN" and another was a non-profit along similar lines. They didn't really have anything that fit with my experience. Free the Slaves - had a training module reviewer - I'm not that techie. And I didn't see anything for the other two.

I did consider applying once for a legal professional position with the UN on Human Trafficking. But alas, did not have the right qualifications. I continue to be thwarted in my pursuit to fight for social justice as a living. Oh well, you do what you can, I suppose. I've donated money, worked within my church at various times, and in my own job - worked to give jobs and help disadvantaged minority and women owned businesses obtain work. It breaks my heart that human beings do these horrible things to each other or feel the need to - and for selfish purposes. It seems so pointless. Also I find the concept of slavery disgusting and destructive. It sickens me.

2. Working from home..

Anyhow, Day 93...was responding to emails, and ignoring emails. Also watching the people behind me lower more garbage into the backyard space which could be lovely if the building owners had a wit of sense. That space now has more bags of debris, a headboard to a bed, a chair, and whole lot of broken wooden furniture. Making me wonder what they were clearing out, why, and why it had to be thrown behind the building. I'm praying they clean it up within the next few weeks. If they don't I may file a complaint with the city's 311 hotline - as health and environmental waste violation.

3. New York vs. the Coronavirus

The Governor came on the telly, and thanked the press for giving him a large enough soap box that he was actually able to convey to a large group of people state and nationwide the severity of the Coronavirus and how best to protect themselves. Then he went into a very informative and thoughtful spiel on the Tale of Two Countries - one that is taking the Coronavirus seriously and hunkering down, while the other isn't. The states, counties, and towns that took it seriously and enforced mask wearing, social distancing, hand-washing, sanitizers - are the ones with no cases, few cases, or have crushed the curve. Massachutus, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Conneticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island...all have decreases in cases. They were the hardest hit in April, and now they've come down considerably and crushed the curve.

In our latest edition of New York vs. the Coronavirus - New York has won. We have a 1.4% infection rate in New York at the moment, despite the random nitwits who are ignoring the Governor and doing whatever they please.

My brother texted me a video of the area he stayed in and had lived in Oahu, Hawaii - which is a small county and among the few with no cases of the virus. They have no cases because everyone wears masks, social distances, and those who don't get booted out. One tourist didn't and they were sent home by the community. They've enforced it. I kind of envied them today, and wished I could live in that community. Mine is populated with random nitwits who feel inclined to act as if there is no pandemic and they don't have to behave any differently than before. I really want to hand out a few Darwin Awards.

4. General Health and Well-Being

Other than that? I'm actually in a good mood today. Got a few things done. Looking forward to vegging tomorrow, and sleeping in. I've not been getting enough sleep - although I'm getting a lot more sleep than I did prior to the lock-down. Also I appear to be less stressed out, I'm eating better, taking longer walks, and my allergies aren't quite as bad.

Per Doctor's appointment? I lost ten pounds. And appear to have shrunk from 6 feet to 5.11 or 181.43 cm to 180.40 cm (because the data is in metrics for some reason or other.) AND according to the Doctor - my COVID Anti-body Test came back negative. Now before everyone gets all excited...I thought I'd share with you all the disclaimers that were included with the results:

"The Abbott SARS-CoV-2 IgG assay is a chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay intended for the qualitative detection of IgG antibodies specific to the nucleocapsid protein of SARS CoV-2 in serum from
patients who are suspected to have had COVID-19 disease.
Negative antibody results do not rule out SARS-CoV-2 infection,
particularly in those who have been in contact with the virus.
Testing with a molecular diagnostic should be considered to evaluate for active infection in these individuals. Results from antibody testing should not be used as the sole basis to diagnose or exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection or to inform infection status.
This test has not been Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared or approved but has been authorized by FDA under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). This test has been authorized only for the detection of IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, not for any other viruses or pathogens."

In short? They don't know. Certainty remains an elusive carrot forever outside of my grasp. But I'm kind of relieved that it came back negative.
It also means, that I really don't want to get COVID. The thing I got in November was bad enough - I was hacking for three months. And felt I couldn't breath, run, or walk fast, without being short of breath. COVID sounds even worse.

Kind of looking forward to just working on my novel tomorrow. Might even take another walk through Greenwood Cemetery - possibly a longer one depending on the weather. I just took an hour and half today or 3.1 miles. I've been averaging 3-5 mile walks lately in the cemetery, previously it was 2-3 mile walks. Before the work from home initiative, I was walking 2-3 miles daily. So my walking is actually down this year from last year - at least daily. I'm trying to get it back up and over. My goal is post-Covid, to take hikes in upstate NY with various meetup groups. Maybe even go to the New Life Hiking Spa in Vermont. I've rediscovered my love of walking in the woods and hiking via the Greenwood Cemetery walks. It's an exercise I can truly get behind - also it's healthier for me than any other exercise, other than yoga. Gets me out in nature, fresh air, and works the whole body. Also, calms the mind.

The one thing that I've observed on my walks through the Cemetery that I find...befuddling is the vast number of people who walk with ear plugs or earphones. Why? You can't hear the birds. You don't see all the interesting bits of life around you. I get wanting to shut stuff out on a subway, or a train, or on a city street...but why in a green space, with trees, birds, statues, headstones, and grass? I like to take a break from it.

People continue to bewilder me. It's bewildering how many people take this beautiful planet we all live on for granted. They don't really seem to appreciate it. Or see it. So busy with all these distractions. They don't take the time to pause and listen to birds, watch a robin, or a white tailed hawk fly through the sky, or stare at a flower. This world is only ours for a short period of time. It's temporary. I'm trying hard not to waste it. Walking through a cemetery more than anything else, makes me aware of that lack of permanence. Everything is constantly changing - every day, the trees, and flowers, and grass are slightly different than the day before. While the song on the ipod doesn't change - it's the same song.

I wonder sometimes what people would do ...if the distractions ceased? Create new ones, I suppose.

Working from home, I have a view from the window out onto a grassed square which sees many dog-walkers. Quite a few of them seem to be very much in the mode of, listen to something on earphones or look at a cellphone, walk holding a leash, there's probably still a dog attached to it.
