Didn't take a walk today, instead, after I clocked out from work, I cleaned out my kitchen and did laundry. Laundry continues to be an experience. I swear if I get COVID it will either be from doing laundry or being forced back into my crazy workplace.

But this picture, which I took on my walk yesterday, gives me joy. The lovely thing about NY is there are a lot of trees.

Take joy wherever I can get it. I'm currently grateful that I can still breath and a lot better than I was breathing from November through March.
Which is why I'm anxious about going back to the office - I can breath at home, not so much at the office. I may be wrong about this - and psychologically attributing my ability to breath to a coincidence. It's more than possible that whatever I got in November didn't get out of my system until March. (I'll never know what it was. It's long gone now.)

Laundry, as I stated previously, proved to be interesting. For one thing there were a lot of workers in the basement, without masks on, busy re-wiring everything. Wires all over the floor and dangling from the ceiling across to the floor. Kind of fun getting my laundry cart across it - then of course the Super's Wife, Monica, was busy folding clothes with her son - she was wearing a mask - while the guy from the basement apartment wasn't and was using her dryer. I gave up - all I can do is wear a mask myself and try to stay as far from people as possible. That's it.

And when I came back down to take things out of the washer and put them in the dryer - apparently and old guy who wasn't wearing a mask, chose to take out my towels and put them in a basket, even though there was another washer available (it was admittedly more expensive - $2.50 as opposed to $1.50, but still). Normally it wouldn't bother me - but hello, pandemic! Oh well, I put them in the dryer - that would kill the germs.

Like I said, if I get this? It'll be due to doing laundry.

At least the kitchen rewiring being done tomorrow won't be too bad. Just noisy and headache inducing. They do take off for a lunch break around 11:30 - which is the timing of the first of my two scheduled conference calls. And, I've noticed that the banging and sawing levels off around 2PM. They were banging and sawing below me today - giving me a headache - I ignored them with the noise cancelling earphones. I was listening to playlists by Lin Miranda and W.i.ll.iam of the Black-eyed Peas, along with Sian on Apple Music. (What I noticed about the playlists is that they all feature their own music...so, while on lockdown they are listening to their own stuff? Really? Touch of self-promotion in there.) I texted the Super's wife to figure out what the deal was.

ME: Questions on the kitchen work tomorrow? 1) Will they seal off the kitchen from the rest of the apartment. 2)Do they use my bathroom. 3)What safety measures in place? 4) Do I have to clear out the entire kitchen? 5) Will the fridge still be plugged in? Note unfortunately, I'll be working from home during this.

Monica (aka Super's wife): 1) Yes. 2) No. 3.) I will checking temperature, they use sanitizer, they use the masks, the gloves, and they seal off the rest of the apt. 4) Yes, only from your table and counter-top. 5) Yes. And no problem.

She also informs me that after next week they'll be completely done. It's just the line of apartments that I'm on that is left.

Mother: Your father had me writing up his obituary today.
Me: Is he planning on going somewhere?
Mother: That's what I asked him. For some reason he had it in his head this morning. Along with planning his funeral, which we already did. He keeps thinking he can't have it in the church because most (99%) of the family members aren't Catholic.
ME: The church doesn't care.
Mother: Ours doesn't. Your uncle (the conservative priest in Florida) thinks that is the case and no, non-practicing Catholics can participate, but Jerry who is a deacon at our church states that's not true.
Me: My uncle is from a conservative order, and most people don't follow that. Each order and church is different.
Mother: Actually this is the dictates of a church in Mississippi...
Me: Exactly.
Mother: He thinks we won't be able to have a funeral for him...
Me: He planning on dying soon or something? At the rate things are going, I'm more likely to die of this thing than you are.
Mother: Please don't.
Me: Why? One less kid to worry about.
Mother: I need someone to cry at my funeral.
Me: My brother and niece would.
Mother: Your niece would.

The other topic of conversation was the asshole in the White House, who was threatening to cancel the November election today, only to be informed by the Republican Party that this would result in the Speaker of the House taking over. Ironic that. The 20th Amendment and the 25th Amendments kind of ensure that we don't have to live with defeated or nasty Presidents without an election for long.

Mother: Do you remember Herman Caine?
ME: Sounds familiar but no clue who he is?
Mother: He's a Republican who ran for President last year.
Me: I tended to ignore or forget all of them, except for the ones who mattered.
Mother: Big Trump supporter as well.
Me: Okay..
Mother: He died of the coronavirus today - apparently contracted it at the rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
ME: I'd also read that the nasty dictator from Zimbabawa, who murdered thousands of civilians in a violent take-over - died of the coronavirus this week.
Mother: See? It is balancing out. There is a God.
Me: Yep. Now if only it would take out the damn idiot in the White House.

Busy today writing up a memo for the legal department to review a contractual assignment. Among other things. Nice thing about job is the work does vary - and I never really know what I'm going to be working on each day. I make plans, work often dashes them.

I want a vacation. But due to previous choices I've made in my life, and the current situation that I'm living in - and my physiological makeup - this isn't possible. I know I'm not alone in this. Which makes it somewhat easier.

And NY ever vigilant in its fight against the coronavirus, is now aiding Utah. New York and Northwell Health will deploy at least 30 healthcare personnel to Utah to support Intermountain Healthcare. Intermountain Healthcare — Utah's largest provider — sent dozens of healthcare workers to New York to support our hospitals earlier in the year. We say thank you today with action: New York and Northwell Health will send a team of healthcare workers to Utah on Sunday, along with PPE and equipment as needed. (Per the Governor's night email.)

I'm tired...and kind of spent, off to make dinner..wish me luck tomorrow.
It's not going to be an easy day.

First, and most importantly,

GOOD LUCK!

Second, excellent pics, as now usual! :-)

Third, Now if only it would take out the damn idiot (...)

No, no... at least not until he loses the fall election badly, very badly, and then when a mere citizen once more, gets sued by a whole bunch of people from your home state. (Others are welcome also, of course).

Fourth, this may be way too far out to be possible, but, you know me-- what the hell, right?

How about speaking to the super's wife and pitch the idea of reservations to use the laundry room? Post a signup sheet, each tenant gets to choose day(s) and time(s). Super's wife handles any conflicts for people who want the same times, such as perhaps alternating weeks, etc.

Alternative variation - set aside two days of the week (not necessarily the weekend or even two consecutive days) for appointment laundry only, the rest of the tenants who don't like to be told what to do can go do their thing whenever the rest of the week.

(I mention the super's wife instead of him because you seem to paint her as being reasonable to deal with.)

Hey, like I said, what the hell, right?

;-)

Hint? When giving advice? Stick to what you know. Although you have taught me to stop giving it myself - I resisted the urge yesterday and am quite proud of myself.

See? There you go, I was useful after all! ;-)

You may be encouraged to know that since you initially cautioned me about giving out advice, I have actually resisted giving it here on multiple occasions since then, so your... uhmm, advice was taken seriously!

I even debated about posting the laundry bit above, but keep in mind the way you live where you are and the way I live where I am are very, very different and I only know about some things your way when I read about them-- like I just did now re: your building's laundry options.

We have a large Hispanic population here in Lancaster, so bilingual signage and other such documentation in facilities is not unusual. A place where there's five-six different languages, and half the people don't speak or read English does not occur naturally to me. That certainly makes a big diff, and now I know!

I eventually decided to post the suggestion because I thought of it less as advice than simply fronting an idea. I see things happen here all the time that baffle me, because I think, "Why doesn't someone do this (obvious to me) thing?" Like, f'rinstance, why my favorite diner took over three months before they haltingly started takeout service, while other restaurants in the area glommed onto that concept fairly quickly.

Ahh, well. I'm afraid my personality over time has largely been one of "nothing ventured, nothing gained" -- or learned! I assure you though, that I will continue to be careful in future to respect your preferences.

:-)

I worry...that he won't leave.

Ohh, I think he will, if he loses. Not necessarily willingly, but...

His little gaffe about delaying the election the other day did not go over remotely well even with nearly every member of Congress, including the Republicans. I'm starting to wonder if they're getting sick of him too finally, and are just playing it mostly cool so as not to have his ire directed at them.

My advice in this regard would be...

Oh, wait... never mind!

;-)

See? I can do it!
