I feel like I've miscounted days somewhere in there - it's completely possible, considering I can't count to say my life. I tend to skip over numbers much like I'll skip over words without realizing it. It's why I gave up on knitting and sewing, and any exercise that requires counting - irritates me.

After the anxiety of the past two weeks - regarding the work in my kitchen (completed now except for the painting - which they don't care about and can put off indefinitely) and the whole return to the office (sorry return to work) shenigians with crazy workplace and union - I kind of crashed this weekend. Mother wanted me to go visit my brother's barn - but my poor nerves weren't up for that. Besides there's a tropical storm coming in on Tuesday, and I really don't want to sit by myself with nothing to do in a barn during a heavy duty rain storm, let alone traveling home by Amtrak and subway during it. I'd rather be working in my apartment.
Did go to church's virtual service via Zoom to watch member from my covenant group give a sermon on Sustainability and Nourishment During Times of Crisis. She basically told everyone how we needed to give more to food-banks, our community and those in need in our congregation during this difficult time. I kind of tuned out after a bit - because, well, already doing all of that. Been doing it since March. (I'm donating money, because I can't really do much else - no car, no bike, and I'm leery of public transportation and wandering in and out of certain areas during a pandemic. I am a silent member of the Kensington-Windsor Terrace Mutual Aid Society aka KWTMA - which was formed in March to help neighbors in need. It's organized food deliveries, helped people pay electric bills, given legal support for evictions, etc. I think "community mutual aid society" are critical right now. They also help people find testing sites. This group gives me hope. I wish I could do more than give money right now - but alas, at least it is something.) All we can do is give what we can, no more or less. Church is kind of music and a lecture - with candle lighting rituals and story hour in between. The lectures...very. Not everyone is good at lectures - and during the summer we have people who well, let's just say it's not exactly their forte and leave it at that. But the twenty-something summer music director, a music major who is in CT, and plays the piano from her family home up there - has an amazing voice. Her piano is okay, but her voice blows me away. She did a rather good rendition of a Pete Seeger and a Queen ballad.
And after that? Eh, listening to the latest Jim Butcher book via audible, because I apparently can't get myself to finish or read a book at the moment. (To be fair - I'd been doing all my reading on my commute, very little at home - so that may be part of it. Also, like my brother, I'm having troubles focusing on it. I'm dyslexic as is my brother - so we both have to focus more than others.)
Also started watching The Mandalorian on The Disney Channel. About two episodes in - and it's rather good. The series is written and directed by Jon Favereau who did the Iron Man movies, and is a huge Star Wars fan geek. Unlike Abrahams, Favereau can tell a good story. Also, say what you will about Lucas - he's really frigging good at world-building. The best thing about Star Wars is the world-building, there's so much to explore. You really aren't limited, and can go off in so many directions. It's why it has such a big fandom, and so many novels, comics, cartoons, etc in it. It really lends itself to fanfic. You can make up your own characters and still be okay.
I wrote fan fiction about Star Wars in my head for years. But I'll write more about this in a separate post.

I took a walk to the health food store. No I didn't take any photos, because I left my phone/camera at home. I realized this half-way to the store. It was too hot to go back. And I could live without. The pictures are left over from yesterday's excursion in the Cemetery. I'm not walking in the Cemetery today - because Sunday's are popular days for people to visit graves and have funerals. Also more cars on the weekends - since all the entrances are open to vehicular traffic, while on weekdays, only the main entrance is.
Lots of nitwits without masks. I kept glaring at them. Some of them were smoking. Which is just begging the Universe to take you out. Read this article today about the maskless wonders being a product of the prevalence of misinformation on the internet. No kidding. There's misinformation on everything right now. It's exhausting keeping track of it.
I'd gone to pick up more B-Stress Complex and Vitamin D-3, two supplements that my body requires. Menopause results in deficiencies in Vitamin B, and prior to taking Vitamin D-3 -5,000 milligrams daily, I had a deficiency, but when I started taking the supplements, no deficiency. Note that deficiencies in Vitamin D have allegedly been linked to more severe cases of Coronavirus. Also since I started taking both supplements regularly, I stopped coming down with the flu and the common cold - or less often. I take three vitamin supplements - Stress B Complex (all the Bs), D-3, and Magnesium Citrate. That's it. Too many aren't good for you and my calcium levels are high. Also got some CBD enhanced soda, super greens, apples, maple syrup (had run out), tea and chocolate.
Mother: I have to go to the pharmacy to pick up meds. I could have them do it. But I want to get chocolate.
Me: Did you run out again?
Mother: No. But I'm almost out.
One can never have enough chocolate.

The City appears to be putting in the gas pipes in Ditmas as well now. Nowhere in my neighborhood is immune. We're all having our sidewalks dug up and gas pipes put in. Oh well, could be worse, I suppose. They could be doing it in the winter. They'd intended to do it in the Spring, but had to go on hiatus.
We're in August now. Where'd the months go? Although to be honest, July felt like it lasted forever. A friend, cjlasky, posted about going to Drive-in Movie Theater for the first time in his life.
Me: I vaguely recall going to drive-in's as a kid. Did we?
Mother: Yes, we went. Not that often, but we took you.
Me: We had issues with the car radio -
Mother: No, it was a speaker that you pulled into your car window. Difficult to maneuver. I remember when I was in college, we had a drive-in movie theater a block away - we'd walk to it and sit on the grass or chairs and watch.
As a kid? I watched movies outdoors at my Swim Club. I also went to drive-ins. It was the 70s, outdoor movies were big back then. They were making a come-back actually in the summers in NYC long before COVID hit - co-worker was going to Rooftop movies, and they had them in Courtelyou and in Fort Green - outdoors, along with Brooklyn Bridge Park, Bryant Park, and Prospect Park. Old movies in the parks. New, indies on the Rooftops.
Ah well...let's hope August is better than July? My current game plan is to try to get up the courage to go visit my Brother, sis-in-law, niece, cats, and the barn - on August 20th. Of course I have to schedule around their other barn guests. My brother does not have a shortage of visitors, considering they have to sleep on a mattress on the floor of his refurbished barn, and shower outside. People are apparently desperate.
Anyhow, I leave you with more flowers...there were huge red Hisbiscus flowers on my walk, but alas no camera, so you're stuck with these instead.

Date: 2020-08-03 12:18 am (UTC)I hope you can travel to visit to your brother, and do it safely. We shall see how this month goes.
God knows, in Florida there is no traveling anywhere. I'm terrified of stepping outside my county because Covid is SO bad everywhere, and we're relatively safe here.
It makes me sad, because I do love traveling and I miss my friends fiercely.

Date: 2020-08-03 01:47 am (UTC)I do know that this is my favorite type of flower. I love lilies. I prefer them to roses and carnations. They are more interesting and last longer. Also there's a lot of them in NY.
I hope so too. I need to get out of the city, but I fear doing so as well. It's still here. We still have cases. Just 500-800 as opposed to 2,000-10,000. But a 1.5% infection rate is far better than the 20-30% infection rate being touted in the Spring.
Florida is in bad shape, I'm afraid. So too is Georgia and South Carolina. Actually just about everywhere is. I'm guessing Hawaii isn't that bad - but it amazes me that people are still traveling by air during this. Although I've learned that airplanes are relatively safe - they have filtered air systems.
I'm hoping things get better.

Date: 2020-08-03 02:51 am (UTC)I hope you are able to travel and be somewhere you can have some real social contact. I know you would enjoy that. It's got to be hard to do this alone.
