Difficult day.

Between my workplace, apartment complex, and COVID-19 - it's a wonder I have not committed Hari Kari by now.
I did however talk to a lot of folks today. Mainly co-workers. And mostly by phone. Although staff meeting was held by teams, so I actually saw people, such as my boss, Lando, Gabe and Chidi. The rest of us couldn't get the video or chose not to.
Crazy Workplace
Apparently Lando's going away celebration was not today, as previously speculated. This was just a trial run of Teams for our staff meeting, because the millenials in the group love teams. I think the rest of us would have been fine with conference calls. My computer does not like Microsoft Teams for some reason.
I realized during the meeting, when boss surreptitiously asked Lando if he'd be available on Monday for a brief chat to wrap things up, that they were shooting for Monday.
Guess which day my apartment complex has chosen to shut off the power in my apartment in order to install a new meter? And to do so for several hours, between 9 - 2pm - Monday. I even took a vacation day, because I can't use my computer on that day - no wifi.
Apparently this was decided - because it was all last minute. Also they realized trying to have everyone say something on Teams would be problematic because not everyone is comfortable or savvy on teams. Nor do they wish to be seen on it. So, instead of everything saying something off the cuff on teams, they get to do a brief video of themselves talking about Lando, thanking him, telling a story - and they will put together a video collage. It's due no later than 5PM on Friday.
Long story short? I accepted the invite. Whether I send a video is another matter. I figure I'll do it the same way I did the ATPO Zoom chat - via my phone on a conference line. If it doesn't work, c'est la vie. In the meantime, I'll send something by email to Gabe and Chidi.
Also, finally got around to discussing the bid opening that is hanging over my head for August 27. I'm afraid of it. It involves taking a subway and a train to my office in the Jamaica Air Train Building. Meeting with one other person, in a room, and opening bids. The trains are most likely safe in of themselves, but there are a lot of nitwits taking them and hanging about the stations that are not wearing masks. And there's an uptick in COVID cases south of me.
To date - two people have done bid openings. Everyone else has done it electronically. Lando went into detail on what he does, assuming of course everyone else follows the same exact procedures regardless of the project.
I tried to explain my project wasn't the same, he didn't hear me. He's a nice guy, but sucks at listening. Also he has the annoying habit of copying the boss on everything - even though boss is getting over 1000 emails a day. I think he's a frustrated preacher or lecturer. Sci-fi fan coworker - informed me that he'd done two, and his description was simpler.
I talked to Jay and Leo about it. They both told me that there was a way around me going in person. Jay was going to talk to C to see if she could do it for me - C has driven into the office on various occasions with her husband, and is okay with it. She doesn't take the train. She's also a sweetheart and we get along rather well. Leo is also a sweetheart, and has been going into the office since this started, and doesn't seem to have any issues with scanning things and pinch hitting for folks. Jay has been in constant contact with both, and fully understands my reluctance to go in. I spoke to both Jay and Leo today, and they both reassured me.
This relieved me greatly. I've been having nightmares about this bid opening for weeks now. Lando, however, gave me a panic attack.
And on the amusing side...
Project Management put in the wrong accounting string for the Requisition. I told them that a new Requisition needed to done, in order for the accounting string to be in the system. They advised me it had been done this morning. I checked, no it was the same. I asked if maybe it took a while for it to take. No, they apparently updated the wrong RQ. I burst out laughing.
This is the same project that had the insurance issues the day before.
I think it is cursed.
Since staff meeting was on teams, I thought, okay I'll probably be visible. I put on makeup, a decent shirt, all prepared for it. But my computer will not access the camera for teams. I do not know why. It does for Zoom.
Chidi: you need to email it to yourself and open it from your browser.
Me : I did that.
Lando: You need to email it to yourself and open it from your browser.
Me: I did that.
Chidi: No, you need to email it to yourself and -
Me: Why don't I tell you what I did?
Chidi: Okay.
Me: I emailed the invite to myself and I opened it from the Microsoft Teams App on my Mac laptop.
Chidi: It should be your browser.
ME: This is not a problem I have with zoom. Also I've done that and teams crashes the computer. Not that I mind, I don't want to enable my video.
Chidi: But you can do it - I got Lando to do it and he has a Mac too -
Me: It's not the same -
Chidi: Every time I talk to you it is I can't I can't I can't - it's like your default setting is no.
Me: No it's not. (Pause, while he's laughing at the obvious set up). It's just that way with you.
Chidi: Burn. You're so funny.
UGH.
Meanwhile at staff meeting we were all informed that the agency was NOT getting any money in the latest Federal Stimulus package, surprise, surprise. So agency is hunting other avenues.

I don't know what to do about my photos at the moment. I can only post from FB, but DW won't keep them up on my posts past a certain period in time, I don't know why...it makes no sense to me. They disappear after about a month or so. So, these photos are temporary. I complained to them about it - and explained in no uncertain detail why Instagram and Flickr do NOT work. And why DW hosting photo platform is NOT user friendly. And that I could post from FB with no problems, they just didn't let them stay up - why?
I don't care that much, I have them saved on FB and my phone and the cloud. Also, I rarely re-read entries. If you do? Print them off when you see them. Don't wait. Let's make this DW's loss.
The News and Church Check-in's
I read the news this morning and was foaming at the mouth by the fifth article. I ended up deleting today's NY Times Briefing.
While talking to mother about politics, one of my friend/acquaintances from church called to checkin with me. She lives in Sunset Park, which had a recent upkick in cases. She also had a very mild case of COVID back in March - it lasted three days and was literally nothing. She's fine now. She didn't get test then, but she got tested in June, and was discovered to have the antibodies. I told her she wasn't necessarily immune, they'd found that the antibodies can disappear after six months or less. Aggravating that. (I'm on a COVID informational group on FB - that is into fact-checking. Despite what people may think Facebook is evil. It's how people choose to use it that makes it evil. Same with DW or any social media platform - it's how we use it that makes it what it is. But people like to blame other things.)
Church friend may have been calling about pledging money and doing UU the Vote - getting folks to vote, but she wasn't pressuring me to do either and quite understanding of why I was backing off of it. Fear of job instability, and financial instability. Also I'm on the phone constantly as it is - I can't do any more.
We both agreed that Kamala Harris was a great pick and were both happy with the ticket. And both wanted the sociopath in the White House out of it.
It was nice to talk to someone other than mother. Meanwhile niece is posting picks of bathing in waterfalls in upstate NY on Instagram. This is making me want to move to Upstate NY.
I'm tired. Today was hard. I keep worrying about things. Mother told me that she was going to her hair stylist - who wears a mask, but may not be taking other safety protocols, to get her hair dyed and cut. Because mother loves her hairstylist and doesn't want another one, and is sick of her hair.
I can't do anything. She'll do what she wants to do. Even though there's a perfectly capable one in her retirement community who takes stricter precautions, and does my father's hair.
I'm not seeing a hairstylist - in part because I actually prefer it now. I can pull it back into a pony tail and off my face. Also the gray hairs coming in ...give it texture.
After work, I tried to do yoga. Took a CBD happy pill. But everything hurt, and I had a sick tension/sinus headache, which I used to cold pack to alleviate, along with Tynenol Sinus Headache Meds. It worked. The nauseous headache went away.
Then I had two drinks. The Vodka Soda wasn't enough. So after dinner, I had the Tai Kiki Rum Cocktail - which did work. I'm now comfortably numb.

Date: 2020-08-15 02:45 am (UTC)I thought of that a few minutes after I posted, and you're right, it shouldn't add significantly to their server overhead. But if my conjecture would turn out to be right about the data space they have available, they may just wish to minimize image posting by DW members as a general principal, and so they've deliberately left their own minimalist system the way it is. ETA-- The fact that your available DW image storage space increases dramatically as a paid member might add some credence to the above, possibly.
yourlibrarian may be right about it being a Facebook issue.
