Day #23 of The 30 Day Song Challenge - apparently it's not really a music meme - it's a song challenge.

I wrote this long discourse and I deleted it. (I read over it and decided that people would take it the wrong way. And thought better of it.) So, with the view that less is more? At least in this case. I'll just you my selection. Make of it what you will.

Nice one. Reminds me of Tom Waits' later percussion-heavy work.

Thanks. It does, doesn't it? Made me think of Tom Waits and some of the more percussion heavy artists. When it came out in March, I was dancing to it a lot in my apartment.

The Clash, The Clash

This is my favorite punk/hard-core album. It's their first album, but their second U.S. release. CBS records held it back for two years (for whatever reasons), and reshuffled the order, incorporating some non-album British singles (the way Capitol did with the Beatles way back when). Whatever--it worked. The album feels unified, and the Clash never sounded more focused, lyrically or musically. And Joe Strummer...he just sounds pissed.

So here's two songs ("Janie Jones" and "Career Opportunities"), clocking in under four minutes total. Straight to the point.
