Day #29 of the 30 Day Film Challenge.

The prompt is...A film that makes you want to fall in love..

Uhm. There's romantic films, but they don't necessarily make me want to fall in love. I keep drawing a blank on these prompts...

I'm tempted to go with Gross Point Blank just to be facetious.

And...

I don't tend to like sappy or overly sentimental romantic films like The Notebook. I like banter, and good dialogue. A battle of wits. Strong women who meet strong men. Titantic for example? Did not work for me.

A film that makes you want to fall in love

You can laugh at me if you want, but Sayonara (1957) did just that.

The first time I saw it was in the fall of my junior year in high school. I'd had a couple of crushes before, and had sort of played at dating. but looking back on it, I was paying too much attention to girls that I thought other people might approve of me dating, whether it was my parents or the guys I ran around with. I saw this movie about love in spite of prejudice and bigotry on TV late one Saturday night. I thought about it all day Sunday. I went to school on Monday looking for the kind of girl *I* wanted to date, not knowing exactly what that was. I don't know how many girls I glanced at that morning still without knowing. Then in the middle of the day, I walked into my next class and there she sat. I may not have actually asked myself the question, "Why haven't I *seen* you before," but I felt it. She was extremely intelligent, independent, sure of herself, and certainly beautiful. Within a couple of days I got up my nerve and changed my seat in class to sit beside her.

Though we were in the same year and had grown up going to mostly the same schools, this girl who was suddenly my attraction and I had never been in a class together before that fall, and we had yet never said a word to each other. I started talking to her every day. I took my time, got to know her, and let her get to know me before I asked her out. And yes, I fell in love with her. How could I not. She was exactly my type.

I saw Sayonara again, I think in the spring of that school year. It was fine. I still liked it. But it didn't affect me the same. It did the job well the first time.

Despite my love for the classic Holllywood romantic comedies, I keep coming back to Moonstruck (1989).

Maybe it's because I love John Patrick Shanley's particular brand of romanticism; maybe director Norman Jewison established just the right mood; or maybe Cher (and Nic Cage and Olympia Dukakis) cannot be denied.

"Snap out of it!!"

Hey, it's your meme! :-) Methinks I'll be a mite pervy as opposed to facetious.

I got a chuckle out of the beginning of the trailer where they state that "The following preview has has been approved for all audiences..."

Really? "Mom? Why is that guy tying that girl up? Is he going to rob her or something?"

Maggie Gyllenhaal totally pulls off what could have been a career-ender for a less talented actress. A clever, funny, ultimately endearing romantic romp. Yes it is!

I'm choosing Crossing Delancey , a little old fashioned wooing.
