Reporting live from epidemic central again - apparently Southern Brooklyn is the "COVID Cluster", so too is Southern Queens, and Rockland County and Orange County, and Broom County...so it's nice not to be alone, I suppose.

New York vs. the Corona Virus

The Governor was doing another live briefing today.

Reporter: So if someone is walking down the street without a mask do they get a warning?
Governor: No, they get a ticket and they are fined. Warnings lets them get away with it. They know they have to wear a mask. It's impossible not to know. If a police officer sees you walking down the street without a mask, they should fine you.
Reporter:Isn't that a little extreme?
Governor: No. It is a law. We have to enforce the law. Laws have no power if they are not enforced. You haven't been enforcing the law.

The Governor is fed up. I don't blame him - I'm fed up with the maskless wonders.

Governor: I'm trying to save your lives. This is why I have sleepless nights.

They spent a lot of time discussing what had to be closed and what didn't. Non-essential businesses aren't a priority. They are closing schools, religious organizations, and anything that results in mass gathering. Also religious buildings can be open for worship to up to 50 people, someone needs to check and make sure it doesn't go over 50. If they can't do it - the religious building will be closed.

Schools, private and public, in the area will be closed because they weren't doing testing.

Reporter: Is it true you are closing these schools - a day before the Mayor's dictate -
Governor: Yes, they aren't testing. If you aren't testing, you don't get to stay open. Would you feel safe letting your kid go to a school that isn't testing, and taking the proper precautions?
Reporter: Uh, no.
Governor: Neither would I - that's the correct answer. SUNY is taking the correct precautions and doing an excellent job of testing - that's why the head of SUNY is here, he wouldn't be here if he weren't doing it.

I think the Black Lives Matter protests gave people a false sense of security. They thought, well the protestors aren't getting sick - and they are congregating, wandering about, etc - why can't I? The BLM protestors were wearing masks, getting tested daily, and social distancing for the most part. Also they did it when the infection rate was low and in the summer, when it was hot. And they were all outside. They weren't partying, drinking, eating, chatting without masks, or congregating indoors or outdoors. They were moving for the most part or social distancing.

But most people aren't capable of breaking it down like I did above. Logic is kind of beyond them.

Governor to the Orthodox Jewish Community: No, you don't have herd immunity. I'm trying to keep you from dying - I'm not enforcing these restrictions to hurt you, I'm doing it to save you. I don't want you to get the virus and die.

They are upset because their synagogues are being shut down and schools are, but businesses aren't. The Governor pointed out that a small business that has maybe 6-8 patrons and everyone is wearing masks is not going to spread the virus the same way that 300 people in a synagogue or school will.

The fact that he had to point this out is rather amusing. He also had to point out that yes, he knows that the virus doesn't care about zip codes, they are circling it - and attempting to circumvent it. He has to avoid the word containment, because that apparently upsets folks.

Yes, it's official, a lot of people were dropped repeatedly on their heads at birth. COVID-19 keeps revealing how stupid and selfish folks are. It's not that hard to wear a mask and just stay home. Do the religious services via Zoom or at home for a while. It's not forever.

Wales: What's more important, being with your loved ones or your health?
Me: It depends on whether you are living with them - but your health and their health comes first. You can't very well be with them if you or they are dead or on a respirator, unable to breath.
Wales: Oh right...yes, I guess you are right there. I wouldn't want to kill my Dad.
Me: Exactly. I'm staying away from my parents, brother, sisinlaw, niece, etc to keep them safe. And myself safe. But mainly them. I don't know what I'll pick up en route, assuming I don't have it.

People are weirdly cavalier about their health and in particular others health in this country. I've noticed that over the years.

And of course it's fall, so my allergies are kind of here. I get a dry cough at various point - due to allergies.

The testing place that is about mile and a half walk from my home, apparently had a line down the block. You can walk in without a screening - and get a free test, also a rapid test and a regular one, at any time. I may try it out in the coming weeks. Don't know. I'm worried about getting the virus waiting in line for the test - I've no symptoms to speak of, outside of pesky allergies.

Laundry room went through an upgrade. There's a sign now on the dryer telling people to wear a mask. More people are wearing them - and I'm not having to fight people about riding the elevator solo. I just kindly state - "can only do one person because of COVID" and they back off.

Also...it's cooler now, so I could turn off the AC and open up a window.

Another picture from yesterday's walk around the graveyard. I did laundry tonight - and the laundry room was blessedly empty for once. So, not as anxiety inducing.
