Spent most of the afternoon apt/flat hunting. Didn't find an apartment, but did manage to inadvertently pick up a "buyer's" agent - who talked me into letting her help me find places.
She's from the Dominican Republic, lives in Manhattan, and is a real estate agent who helps people find places to buy. (ie. buyer's agent). Doesn't cost me a dime. Has a car. And knows more about the market than I do. She showed me two places today - nice places, bad locations. She said, afterwards, they were over-priced for the location and size. Has an architectural background and loves looking at apt's. So we shall see. Been all over Brooklyn today as a result. Am pooped.

As an aside - will be pleased when this election is over - I've been called by Carl Palladino, Gloria Steinman, Matt Damon, and Bill Blasio to date. They are all computer messages. I've hung up on everyone but Matt Damon so far - but that's only because Matt was first and caught me by surprise.

Came home and watched the season finale of Project Runway which alternately bored and annoyed me. Overall I agree with the results. I live in NYC folks. I know what is trendy and what isn't. I don't always agree with it, actually 85% of the time, I don't. But, Nina and Kors (the magazine fashion editor and designer) are correct - the new style is boring beige prints, free flowing, leather, and chrome jewelry with a decidedly boho flair...with loose fitting clothes. Yep, that's in and what is popping up in all the mags. Boring true. But fashion isn't exactly exciting and it is very subjective. That said, I have to say I did agree with Heidi who stated that this is a runway show about a certain "wow" factor, not about what works best in a department store. Nina and Kors countered it was about fashion forward and finding the next great designer. (I hate to break this to you Nina and Kors - but you aren't going to find the next great designer on PRoject Runway - the only designer to date that may have fit that category was Christian or possibly Santino, and even he doesn't quite knock our collective socks off or the fashion industry's for that matter. The most Project Runway is going to accomplish is picking a designer that a poor slob sitting on their couch watching the show - may consider looking for online or in their department store. Which means, yes, pick the free flowing ready-to wear dress, and cool leather pants. Because hello, we aren't going to buy the poka-dot dress - well except as a Halloween Costume - only Heidi Klum could get away with that. )

As for the personalities of the designers? I didn't like any of them. Well, except for maybe Mondo and Andy South...who you don't really get much of a feel for. Very wise. Both kept their mouths shut as much as possible. Gretchen suffered from diarrahea of the mouth - that woman talks too much and somewhat nervously...which I can identify with. (You couldn't pay me enough to do one of these shows.) Plus she's a complete control freak...which does not help when you are doing a reality show - because the one thing you don't have during one is any semblance of control - over how you are viewed or depicted. She was absolutely right when she stated, I'm not a bitch, I only play one on TV.

Ugh. Reality shows are so fake. Everything is edited for effect. The fifteen minute whine session in the beginning of the episode - I fast-forwarded through. Seriously, cringe-inducing. Why these shows feel the need to bring back all the losing contestants to watch the winning ones get praised, and then get asked pointless questions about what these winning contestants were really like - is grating. What do you think these people are going to say? They are going to "whinnnne". Hello. Being nice is a) boring and b)Losing gracefully just is not in their DNA. So all you are doing is making a bunch of people look like jerks on tv, which apparently is the whole point of most reality tv shows.

If it were up to me? I probably would have picked Andy South as the winner - I found his somewhat different, even if I hated the neon lime green with a passion. But he did have some lovely silver numbers.

Mondo looked like a Mexican costume circus. Gretchen like a hipster take on Sante Fee western wear.
I'd wear Gretchen's clothes. Mondo's gave me a headache. Not a pattern girl. Loud patterns in clothing, particularly two different patterns....ugh. Mondo is not to my taste. Gretchen's stuff I've seen before - and it looked a bit alike. But if I were thin, I'd wear some of it - it looked comfortable. Also, not so much with the headache. Andy's - was different, with a bit of style.
But hey, what do I know?

I'm glad you found a buyer's agent, I think she'll help bring the search to the next level (and hopefully make it easier on you)...
and I agree w/you about 'Project Runway', actually the finale of PR always reminds me of how little I care about, or know about, fashion. It just really means nothing to me. And I think that Mondo will find a design house which is interested in his work, and I'm glad Gretchen won't be out on the street (since life has kind of burnt her bridges behind her). And Andy is very young, he'll do great....

I'm not getting any trick or treaters, I'm a little disappointed because there are some (not many) kids in the area. But I'm guessing they go to parties instead of out trick or treating. So now what to do w/the candy? I'll put it in the crisper (out of sight, out of mind).
