Everything hurts for some reason. I just ache and I don't know why. Maybe tension, maybe the weather, maybe perimenopause. God knows. I took naproxen, and put on CBD rub. Also have heat on my back. It's the first day back to work - still working from home. Reasonable accommodation was extended by the Medical Director at my workplace until February 26, where it will be revisited.

I need to scale back on sugar or go off of it - and I'm struggling. Buying Gluten-Free Cupcakes, and getting my fudge today, most likely doesn't help.

Talk a brief walk at lunch - the sun jumped out. Then disappeared again. Took another after 4pm, when it jumped out again - and the clouds appeared to roll away.

Walk at lunch was around the block, walk after - was to the grocery store and back.

Before I forget, I saw this on FB - with the NY City Ballet performing with the philarmonic in the streets around Lincoln Center, and various locals in the city.

Curbside Nutcracker Ballet

It's the little things. I did get stuff done today at work. But I also discovered that three of my projects are still on hold. One is waiting on legal, one may not happen, and one may be procured outside of me. It is what it is.

Good news? I won't be laid off this year, nor will anyone else. The Stimulus package saved our jobs, it also saved the city from cuts in service. The subways and trains won't have to cut their hours or the number of trains still in service.

There's an indication from the Mayor and crazy organization that we may be next in line for the vaccine, after the first responders, health care workers, vaccinators, and nursing home folks. But it's not clear.

Sigh. I feel old, fat and bloated and I hurt. So I put on a sleeveless flowered shirt, and yoga pants.

New York vs. Corona Virus

Well, NY now has confirmed that it too has the virulent UK strain that is highly infectious. Someone in Syracuse had it. So they are now investigating Syracuse with a fine tooth comb, in an attempt to figure out how far it spread and how this individual got it. (Since they haven't traveled and did not come into contact with anyone from the UK. I'm not sure the person would know - I mean he could have come into contact with someone who'd been to the UK or had been close to someone else that did - in passing. Say he stopped, took off the mask and had a chat on the sidewalk. Someone passed him without a mask, and wham. )

NYC's current goal is to vaccinate 400,000 people a week - according to the Mayor. The Governor was a bit more realistic with 100,000 a week. Hmm - I didn't know we had that many vaccines? They want to get 1 million people vaccinated by the end of January. (That was their goal in December - I don't see it happening. Neither do the reporters - who did the math, and determined if they vaccinate 100,000 a week - that's not going to add up to 1 million, half a million yes. 1 million no.)

At least NY isn't and has no plans on trying every vaccine for COVID known to humans - that's been created regardless of the success rate and ahem, side-effects. (I don't think I'd want to take the two UK ones or the Russian one, they don't quite smell right.). So far NY's just doing the two approved vaccines - Moderna and Pfizer, as opposed to other countries which are doing well, all of them. I foresee chaos ahead.

They are already having issues with people who want to steal the vaccine and sell it to the highest bidder. It's become a valuable commodity. So the Governor is signing into law - a bill that makes stealing the vaccine and/or selling it a crime. (I thought it already was a crime, apparently not? Granted we've never had this problem before.) The Reporter's wanted a bit more clarification on that one - so Governor made it clear that there had to be intent involved. You had to sell it or knowingly give it to someone who shouldn't be getting it yet. (ie. A Doctor who gives it to his friends and family members.)

National News

2021 is going to be interesting. It's just four days in and it's already proven to be far too interesting for my taste. I'd rather it be a tad less interesting - I've become nostalgic for a boring news cycle. (And this is just in reference to the pandemic, I've not even broached the horrid political situation that sets my nerves on edge whenever I think about it. Or for that matter what is going on outside of the US. The US's news is well interesting all on its own...to the point in which you kind of don't want to look at it and wish it would go away.)

Cases and deaths in the US are steadily climbing. We've managed to be the only country with a "vertical" line. While it's going on, our Federal Government is wasting time worrying over election results that everyone has certified, audited, and cleared. So - during a normal year, yes, this would be patently absurd, but during a pandemic when people are dying - it is unconscionable and insane.

I foresee the Republican Party imploding in on itself. If it hasn't already. It's at war as we speak. It's actually kind of amusing in a way.
I mean the election results they are fighting over? That was overseen, managed, audited, and handled by "Republicans" - it was the Republican Party that oversaw those results. And in some cases bipartisan groups. Republicans certified the votes. And it is Republican Judges and Republican Secretary's of State who have thrown out their cases. The Judges who threw it out? All Trump appointees. What happened in Georgia is ...well hard to wrap one's head around. For one thing, even if Trump won Georgia, he still wouldn't have enough electoral votes to win. (He definitely doesn't have enough popular votes. Georgia doesn't matter. He did not lose by a narrow margin, he lost by a large margin.) So all he accomplished by that phone call - was prove he's desperate enough, to try to steal or bully someone into helping he steal the election and he's a demented fool. The problem is that's worked in the past, so he doesn't see what it can't work now.

Meanwhile, sixty-seventy percent of the Republican Party (the sane portion) is fighting tooth and nail to convince the other portion (the crazy, greedy forty percent) to get in line. The good news is it is only thirty to forty percent. And the one's with all the power are in the sane half.

Liz Cheney who runs the committees for the Republican Party in the House - came out against what the crazy bastards are attempting to pull and let them know this was a big mistake. (So, keep in mind, she wields a lot of power and most of the nitwits pushing for this have no power and are freshmen Congressmen. They are going to find they have no voice in Congress going forward, and most likely won't make it to a second term. Because why would you vote again for someone who can't do anything for you?). And I think this will most likely lead to significant changes in our electoral process - involving various constitutional amendments, going forward. (In other words, it most likely will prompt Congress to do away with the electoral college once and for all.)

If this was a television show, I'd be laughing my head off. But right now, it's setting my nerves on edge. Frigging hell. What are these nitwits thinking? Do they really think they have a snow-ball's chance in hell of getting any further in their political careers after this? Only 46% of the population voted for Trump - with the way this virus is raging, they'll be cut down to 20% by 2022, since the idiots don't wear masks and insist on partying whenever and wherever they can. Granted a little over 51% voted for Biden, but we're not including the portion that voted for third parties. So over 80 million people REALLY don't want Trump as President.

I made the mistake of reading an article in the Times about a 36 year old spoiled brat who went to Harvard and to Congress, and is pushing for electoral vote to be thrown out. She's a representative from upstate New York - Airondacks. I felt rage when I read what she said. I really need to stay away from the news.

Family

I'm trying not to worry about my parents. Another thing I've no control over. My mother has a bad back - it's gotten worse. She's taking pain medication for it now - and has signed up for Independent Living Plus - where they will have health care workers coming in and out to help periodically. They won't stay - just come in the morning, to help with bathing, dressing and breakfast, at lunch, and in the evening. Also run errands - such as pharmacy and groceries. Also, she's arranged for someone to take her to get an X-ray tomorrow.

I wish I could help. But I can't. It is out of my hands. And I can't even really talk to her that much or call her any longer. It hurts for her to get up and get the phone. So, she has to call me.

I also worry, because there are all these people coming in and out to care for them - healthcare workers, who granted are likely to get the vaccine first, and wear N95 masks. But. But.

I should feel grateful though that she's still okay, that she is getting help.

Snagged from someone with my same last name on FB (but no relation). [As an aside, maybe I should date someone with the same last name as mine - fall in love - get married - and no issues changing last names. Hey, it's an idea. Also shouldn't be that hard - my last name is the equivalent of Smith or Grey or Jones. Very popular, and it even works as a first name.]

I hope you can see it. I am beginning to think we need to be very tentative towards 2021...don't touch anything, go in slowly, no racing around.

Finally talked to mother - she called me back, after navigating my father - who insists on drinking alcohol when he shouldn't. Poor man. He got very upset with the whole health-care worker routine - he's worried about the cost (it's not horribly expensive, but it's not cheap either, but they might get long-term disability to cover a portion of it) and he feels like her failed her somehow. Also, having people come in and out invading his territory is confusing. And, to make matters worse - he sat too close to the edge of the bed and fell off it, hitting his head against a chair. So now has to use his walker to get around. They are both using walkers and canes now. Mother was in so much pain - she used the hydrocodeine left over from her back surgery.

Ugh. And I can do nothing to help. She told me her kindle bit the dust finally. But she doesn't want me to buy her a new one - she's using her ipad. (My ipad bit the dust.)
