New York vs. the Corona Virus

Well, we've run out of doses of the vaccine in New York Today, per the Governor's Live Briefing. Which they kind of warned us about. The problem was that they had to vaccinate the essential workers, the health care workers and the over 65 crowd. It was bad enough with just the over 75 crowd. Also a lot of localities had no clue what they were doing. (But we won't go into that.)

They said unless you already are set up for an appointment - you won't get one scheduled until more is received. They don't want to cancel any more appointments - which they've had to do.

The other thing they were talking about is the UK strain - which they've found in New York (surprise, surprise), there's cases in Saratoga and in Brooklyn. Everyone is worried.

Reporter: What do you think about the reports that the UK strain is more lethal?
Doctor Zuker and Governor's staff: It's not more lethal. Just more highly contagious or transmittable. But no evidence more lethal.
Reporter: But, more people are dying in the UK -
Doctor and Governor: That's because the hospitals are becoming overwhelmed. We've explained this before - if the hospitals go past their capacity and supply - we have a problem. That's why we are tracking the hospitalizations and why we are trying to vaccinate all the health care workers. If the health care workers get sick and we lose staff - then we lose the hospital and people die.

I'm starting to think patience comes with the job description if you are an elected official. I listened to the White House Press Conference with Fauci and the new White House Press Secretary (by the way - I can't begin to describe how lovely it is to actually be able to listen to a White House Press Briefing without having to turn the television off five minutes later or fast-forwarding to get past certain bits. I mean this is the first White House Press Briefing I've been able to watch in four years.) Anyhow, they basically said the same thing about the mutated strains or mutants out there.

We are about to receive next week's vaccine delivery. As we do, we'll continue getting shots into arms as efficiently and as quickly as possible. I urge providers to refrain from scheduling vaccination appointments in advance of confirming their supply. Providers must be sure they will have the doses needed for the appointments opened; we want to avoid any cancellations due to lack of anticipated supply. I want to note: New Yorkers who have already received their first dose do not have to worry that they will not be able to get their second dose. Second dose allocation is a separate process, and we always ensure there are enough second doses to complete vaccination for those who received the first dose.

New York State is ready, willing and able to administer over 100,000 vaccine doses a day—if we have the supply. I'm hopeful that the Biden administration will take steps to increase production and shorten the anticipated timeline. For now, I encourage New Yorkers to remain patient

Apparently they have adminstered 97% of the first doses. And promise everyone who got a first dose, will get a second one soon. Also the rate of hospitalizations is decreasing, and/or down. As is the number of cases - that's gone down as well. Even though there are 25 known cases of the UK strain in the State, including the county I live in and Long Island. So, I'm being extra-careful. (Although to be honest, more folks are wearing masks outdoors - because winter!)

I got worried enough to send my mother KN95 masks, and buy some for myself.
US slowly gets back to normal after the sociopath left the White House

Good news - "Mr. Biden did secure a key appointee today: The Senate confirmed former Gen. Lloyd Austin as defense secretary on a 93-to-2 vote, making him the first African-American to lead the Pentagon." YES!

And.." President Biden signed several executive orders that aim to provide economic relief to the unemployed and others suffering during the coronavirus pandemic.

The first order is designed to get more aid to families struggling to afford food and speed delivery of millions of stimulus checks. The second will lay the groundwork for the federal government to require a $15-an-hour minimum wage for its employees and contract workers."

Fauci is happy, because now he can talk without worry. And logic and science once again reign.

Unfortunately, we still have to do something about the idiots who tried to destroy the United States. So there's an impeachment trial coming, most likely the first week of February - to give Biden time to get people confirmed (because the GOP and the sociopath they've been enabling didn't let Biden confirm anyone prior to his inauguration). And to give the sociopath time to prepare his defense.

And that idiotic Congresswoman from the 14th District of Georgia who looks like a Barbie Doll - actually she reminds me a great deal of the actress who played the insane preacher's wife in True Blood, fashioned after Joel Olsteen's wife. Has filed articles of impeachment against Biden in the House.

Sigh. When I think about it - I get angry. I'm trying not to go there. I don't like my anger - it's hot and nasty, and really ugly to look at it.

A little depressed at the moment. I wonder sometimes if I took a wrong turn? It seems at times that no matter what I tried - brick walls stood in my way.
Work has been slow lately, and I've been worrying over it. I always do. That said - I did host/facilitate a kick-off meeting for one of my projects - reminding me of why I despise facilitating meetings. I tried to hand it over to the tech guys, but they didn't behave - so I took the meeting back.

I want to help the world - but the world has had a nasty way of preventing me. So I do what I can. A friend gave me the lovely gift of a free subscription to Hulu and Disney + - so I've been trying to pay it forward by giving money to food banks, etc (I was doing it before, just did more of it.)

Social Media Platforms

It's sad, I can no longer remember where I met a few social media friends.

fishsanwitt and oursin - were these on ATPOBTVS? Or just Live Journal?

See, I've been on a lot of social media platforms/forums since the early 00s, when I found them. Before the 21st Century - I couldn't find them - all I found were web pages and listserves. I was on listserves in the 90s.
I'm well-versed on social media technologies. Far more than I'd like to be.

There are certain platforms that do not work for me - and I gave up on. Tumblr and Pillowfort do not work for me at all. Neither does PinInterest which is similar, or Snapchat. I finally figured out that Twitter and Facebook are about the same and work more or less the same for the most part. Instagram is like Pininterest, and I struggle with it. There's lots of ads. I hate ads. Twitter has less ads. FB has ads, unless you go to a group - in which case no ads. And I'm in a lot of groups on FB. I've lost count of the number of groups I'm currently in. And I've managed to get rid of most of the ads. (There's tricks). Instagram - I can't figure out how to get rid of the ads. It seems to be nothing but ads. (I'm on Instagram for my niece and sisterinlaw. But have lots of people friending me because I keep posting photographs.)

Anyhow...there are days in which I think all my friends live in my computer or on social media platforms.

I'm okay still. Or for the most part. Still here. In Brooklyn, NY. Not infected by the plague - so far. Although I've wondered at times - and thought, no, allergies, or no, digestive issues, or no...sinus headache brought on by stress and allergies. (I was getting the sinus headaches last weekend and all the way up to the inauguration, then they mysteriously went away. So too did the digestive issues, the back pain, and the shoulder pain. So...)

There's all these Bernie Saunders memes across the internet. Apparently people were charmed by him sitting there at the inaugural with his mittens? It's kind of an amusingly ironic book-end to the two populist movements that almost destroyed us - the Saunders Movement and the Trump Movement. Saunders harmlessly sits at the inauguration, bundled up, with his mittens. While Trump flees to Florida in disgrace. Also, it's kind of pop culture internet reset.

I'm still maintaining a minimal presence on LJ as some old friends have not migrated anywhere else. But it's pretty ugh these days.

They are now saying that the UK strain is a bit more lethal - 30 % approx., I think.

Taylor-Green said that she filed articles of impeachment on Biden, but apparently has not actually done so. So far, anyway.

I use FB for friends and family, DW for fandom friends, and twitter for news--I've hardly ever posted there, and no one follows me.
