Day #346 - Raining

Mother: Why aren't you taking a walk?
Me: It's raining?
Mother: Oh, it's nice here.
Mother is still in the hospital. But with any luck will be released tomorrow.
Mother: So, I'm being held over for another night in the hospital.
Me: Okay.
Mother: I'm fine. They just didn't realize when they did the dye for the stress test on my lungs yesterday that they'd need to wait forty-eight hours to do the stress test on the heart.
ME: So they are keeping you another night in a private room in the hospital for a stress test?
Mother: It's easier than sending me home and having to arrange for me to come back and take one.
Me: So, apparently they have a lot of beds available? And rooms? And it's no cost at all to hold you over for another night in the hospital for everyone's convenience?
Mother: Not to mention the cost of a room, the nursing care, etc.
ME: My point exactly.
Mother: The right hand and the left weren't talking to each other - one doctor scheduled the stress test for today while the other did the lung exam without coordinating things. Also, I told them I was hungry. So they brought me kellogs cornflakes in a styrofoam cup with some milk.
Me: I probably shouldn't tell you I had banana almond flour pancakes with bacon should I?
Mother: No. But I'm fine.
Me: You're just bored.
Mother: I shouldn't be bored.
ME: Why not? You are in a hospital, frustrated, waiting on people to figure stuff out ...you have every right to be bored. I'm bored.
Later..
Mother: Just thought I'd call and tell you that your father had the second Moderna dose with no side-effects outside of a sore arm. Also he's fine.
Me: Oh that's good news. (I decide to regale her with pop culture stuff.) So the scholary Whedon Studies board is being nasty to each other and keeps breaking out into fights. I've restrained myself from telling them that the daytime soap opera fan board that I'm currently on is better behaved. You know you have a problem with the subject matter that you are discussing - when a daytime soap board is better behaved.
Mother: Very true.
Me: They made this big huffy point about how because they are SCHOLARS, they are better disciplined and should be nicer than an fanboard. I stopped feeling sorry for them after that. (I'd been feeling sorry for them because their hero was exposed as well a bully and they'd written all these lofty shcolarly papers on his feminist ideals.) Honestly, they need to get over themselves - spank their inner monkey - and face the fact that they are lowly humans like the rest of us.
Mother: Yeah, true. (laughs a bit)
Me: Have I at least amused you? Because I was trying really hard to do so.
Mother: A little bit.
Having one's loved ones in the hospital miles away and not being able to do anything but talk to them on the phone is ...well...painful to say the least.
So, I'm kind of enjoying watching people fall on the spears of their hypocritical self-righteous stupidity. It's weirdly entertaining.
Other distractions? WandaVision is getting good - it gave us the full origin story of Wanda, Agatha Harkness, and revealed what Wanda had actually done. She hadn't taken the Vision out of headquarters as Hayward told Monica Rambeau (that was a lie), in actuality, she'd just recreated her own version of him, which is why he couldn't leave her bubble. He's no more real than her kids. And Agatha - who is a kind dark female version of Doctor Strange, manages to figure out through forced psychotherapy how Wanda did it and why. Wanda is the Scarlett Witch - her magic is chaos energy. So we also get the origin of her name - Scarlett Witch.
I'm thinking watching television is possibly more constructive and less guilt inducing. I really need to stop reading about the Whedon kerfuffle - I'm getting far too much wicked enjoyment out of it. I kind of feel guilty about it.

FB - Neighborhood Page: Hi all, I am not sure who set it up - I noticed a free community refrigerator (community fridge) popped up on ft hamilton parkway and east 2nd today, on the east 2nd st side of the laundromat. These are super in line with the group in encouraging people to take what they need and drop off what they can..
Poster: Someone set up a refrigerator on the Sidewalk?
Yes, I thought it was funny too. Funnier still - that didn't occur to me when I first read it - all I thought was cool - I can deliver food to it.
I've done a small survey of the folks who have gotten the vaccine. A scant few got side-effects. I'd say there was a pattern, but every time I try to come up with one - it's not there. Always an exception.
I honestly think it has a lot to do with how your personal immune system reacts to vaccines. And is kind of meaningless.

Date: 2021-03-01 01:08 pm (UTC)I'm not sure where they are going with this. I was surprised when I realized she'd not taken the Vision's body and Haywood had lied to Monica Rambeau. So apparently Harkness and Wanda aren't being set up as the villains here.

Date: 2021-03-01 11:51 pm (UTC)And she's Magneto's daughter, then determined not to be, but a false mutant.
Scarlett Witch's arc in the comics is wonky and kind of bad. It's actually better in the MCU/television series.

Date: 2021-03-02 03:54 am (UTC)and I am glad she is not Magneto's daughter in this Universe. I've seen people complaining of whitewashing her in mcu, because apparently she is also supposed to be of Romani descent? (Jewish/Romani, I guess, given Magneto). I haven't seen anything that would point at her being Romani in MCU, I guess they went for generic Eastern European, which can be many ethnicity/religion/cultural persuasion.

Date: 2021-03-02 04:11 am (UTC)It's fun - I mean like fanfic. But it's also head-ache inducing if you are a stickler for anything resembling continuity.
Magneto was originally Romani Gypsy with Scarlett Witch and Pietro as his kids with Magda. Then he was Jewish, and his kids died. Then he was Jewish, and Wanda/Pietro were his bastard children. Then just Lorna was his child, and Wanda and Pietro were imposters that were never his kids at all.
In the original creation they are his kids and part of the Brotherhood of Evil who fought the X-men. Scarlett Witch and Pietro aka Quicksilver are originally evil mutants, who broke with their Dad, redeemed themselves and joined the Avengers.
The MCU cut out the whole mutant storyline, and made them Slovakian witch and human changed by the infinity "reality" stone per Hydra, as opposed to Romania Gypsey/Mutant.
I don't know why people think they've been white-washed. They weren't POC really in the comics either.
Pietro is white and so is Wanda. And so is Magneto. Seriously, comic book fans can be self-righteous nitwits. (Which is why I avoid the comics fandom.) LOL!
