shadowkatIt rained today and is cold and crappy, so I stayed indoors after work.
Tomorrow is my second dose of the vaccine. One of my project managers warned me that the line may be long - apparently it took one of her co-workers two hours to get it today. One hour waiting outside the building, and forty minutes inside the building. Oh joy. Although it did kind of take about forty-five last time - what with lines, being called, and the fifteen minutes after.
In a way, I'm envying the folks getting the J&J (Johnson & Johnson).
She advised to go early, but I think that may have been the problem. People coming earlier than their scheduled time. We get a scheduled time for a reason.
We shall see.
Mother has had no side-effects from her second dose of the Moderna outside of a really sore arm.
Mother: Of course I took two tynenol afterwards. But I hurt normally.
Me: That could be the reason.
Mother: No one told me not to take it.
Me:Well no - I'm not going to tell my poor in pain mother not to take pain relievers - I value my life.
Mother: Exactly. I'm in pain normally - I'm not going to stop taking pain relievers!
Honestly, I'm confused. They say not to do it before. But people do. They say do take it before and after for people who had a bad experience the first round. I don't think they know.
I told mother - they were telling people not to - because they don't want you to take a fever reducer. That's the reason.
Mother: Well, I've not gotten a fever.
Me: I should hope not, you took tynenol.
Hopefully it worked. I think it did. I'm going with that.
Sisinlaw got an appointment, because of her ashma. And in Massachustus they are apparently vaccinating all students - regardless of state residency, so niece will most likely get the vaccine. (Over 14, can get it.)

The Governor and the Mayor are still fighting over opening stuff up in the city. The Governor decided to open up gyms for limited capacity indoor classes (honestly - I think they've already been doing some of that), and the Mayor thinks it is too soon. The governor has changed the restrictions on domestic travel into NY, you no longer have to quarantine or get a test. The Mayor is upset about it and thinks it is too soon.
They've been fighting for months now. I've had it with the Mayor, who changes his views on things on a daily basis or so it seems. And I don't know what I think about the Governor. Co-workers and I have decided if the Governor were to leave office it probably wouldn't effect us that much or change our lives for the better. (I think we were all kind of hoping it might, but have come to the realization that it most likely won't.)
Meanwhile the Governor is still fighting with his fellow Democrats. Well, the democrats under the age of 55-60, at any rate. The voters meanwhile are taking the same stance that Biden and the Attorney General of NY has - waiting for her to complete her investigation into the matter - before coming to any conclusions. In short, after four years of Trump, and a pandemic, New Yorkers no longer trust insane marketing people. We're kind of onto their game now. This may mean that folks can't destroy politicians and fellow celebrities any longer via social media platforms? Not that they ever really did. Cancel culture is kind of an illusion - all you are doing is cancelling people on Twitter and Facebook. The world is not limited to Twitter and Facebook and Instagram. People can be successful outside of social media.

My game plan is to watch Justice League, and possibly The Falcon and The Winter Solider tomorrow and during the weekend. Possibly just Justice League. It's been enough time since the last one - that it will feel new. Also I can remember the last version well enough to notice the differences.
I'm still baffled by why WB chose Whedon of all people to finish and re-shoot Snyder's Justice League. Now that the reviews are out in regards to the Snyder cut? Even more baffled, not less. I was kind of baffled at the time - and deliberately chose to wait for it to come out on - on-demand. I didn't pay to see it in the theaters. It's among the few superhero films - I didn't pay to see in a theater. Whedon doesn't understand the DC characters, or get their voices. He does understand the Marvel characters - he's a Marvel fan, he has written Marvel comic books - he's worked with Marvel. But DC is very different in tone than Marvel. It would be like having Whedon write Vampire Diaries or Julie Plec/Kevin Williamson write Buffy.
I'm less baffled by Whedon choosing to take the job - I don't think he had a lot of choices - I think he was kind of corralled or bullied into doing it by Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. But, I'm baffled by why they chose him and did that? It's very weird - particularly if you've seen everything Whedon and most everything Snyder and Nolan have done, like I have. The Russo's would have been a better pic - but they were admittedly unavailable and very happy over at Marvel. Or Nolan. If they wanted to make the series lighter in tone - they were a bit too late for that - I mean, they chose Snyder because they wanted someone similar in tone to Christopher Nolan (who is similar to Snyder in style). It's all very odd.
Actually the whole thing is baffling - it's why I got so distracted by it. I was trying to figure it out. I haven't. People make no sense to me. I think the reason may be simple - hubris, big egos getting out of hand, and running amok all over the place. Kind of like what is happening politically in NY State at the moment. We either have stability in our Federal Government or our State Government, but apparently not at the same time.
Anyhow, I finally figured out why I've been exhausted all week long - frigging Daylight Savings Time has screwed up my time clock again. If it weren't for the fact that I don't like the desert, require lots of trees, an ocean nearby, and am allergic to dust and dry air, I'd move to Arizona and be done with it.

Date: 2021-03-20 12:38 am (UTC)The consensus, if there is one, appears to be that the WB wanted a film that was epic, light, humorous, and all within the space of 2 1/2 hours. Also by November 2017. Whedon most likely said, maybe we should scrap the existing film and was shot down. Apparently they had to get it in before the end of 2017 - my guess is to beat the Marvel juggernaut Infinity War to the screens.
I'm not surprised it was a toxic shoot. Considering they did it within four months. And the cast at that point was already fed up with the higher ups. The higher ups had been babysitting Snyder - and Snyder had been fighting with them - to the point that he finally said, frack this, I'm done. My family matters more. Considering Whedon came off of a similarly toxic situation on Age of Ultron with nasty execs, who shot down his ideas, etc - I'm not sure why he felt he could be successful in a similar, and potentially even worse environment?
Anyhow, it killed Whedon's career as a director for blockbuster or superhero or major films. But I doubt it matters - since he was kind of burned out on them anyhow. It also appears to have killed it as a television show-runner, which again may not matter.
He's not really much of a "action film" director anyhow. He's better at smaller emotional moments, and writing.
Early in his career he spent a lot of time being brought in to "correct" what was considered to be going askew; why should this be different?
He was a script doctor, not a director. Which is different. Although I take your point - and think that may well be what he tried to do.
Fixing scripts is easier - people do that all the time. Screen writers are kind of used to having their script chopped to pieces. Film isn't really a writers medium like television is, it's a director's medium. And the director rules - they are architect and builder. Directors have been known to leave out scripts entirely, or actors scenes. So, to come in and recut and reshoot another director's film - and fix it? That's hard. And seldom ends well.
Usually the fix-it director isn't credited. Sometimes they are when the original director wants their name taken off the film. It works better if the change is done early on in the film - so the new director can make it his own, and recast if necessary. But after everything but post-production was completed? That's impossible.
My brother interned for Kit Carson who reshot Lizzie Borden's Love Crimes - which was an incoherent mess. So Carson came in and re-shot it. Carson was Hollywood's fix-it man. That's what he did - he'd come in and fix other people's films. Was seldom credited. And my brother told me that that shoot was a nightmare. It always is - the cast is brought back, they have to reshoot scenes they liked. Etc. Ugh.
And from what I've gathered? Writers often make really bad directors. They get caught up on their scripts. And film isn't really about the words - it's not a writer's true medium. It's very visual.
The criticism that I've seen across the board is that Whedon doesn't handle directing well - he doesn't know how to convey what he wants often to the actors, and is a bit of a perfectionist.
Under pressure? It was a hundred times worse. I mean he had temper tantrums on the Avengers: Age of Ultron because of the higher ups. I can only imagine how much worse Justice League must have been.
