Wait, really? Because you wrote this comment a month ago and I see one fic older than it now, which means that someone must've backdated their fic recently. (it's backdated to 1950?? either a glitch or someone lied abt when they wrote this fic)

Edit: I don't think that's the case actually. Can you see locked fics? Because the 1950 fic is locked and it seems like it's been shown as 1950 for a while now, so it's most likely you just didn't see the other fic.

Also, it should be noted that my post isn't fan fiction. It's a "review" of a Once Upon a Time television episode. (I think you both may have commented on the wrong post by accident?)

So apparently some folks either don't know the difference between "meta" and "fan fiction" or ...they need to work on their reading comprehension skills???

Also there is no WAY that was the first OUAT meta or fic on AO3 -- that was a HUGE fandom in its prime. Methinks they are confused.

I think so too. It was a huge fandom. It may be the first they found on Ao3, not everyone writing meta posted it there. And while I backdated it to when I posted it on LJ - 2011, I doubt no one else didn't do the same.

They really are confused. Both of them. And they don't make sense. LOL!

In response to my suggestion that it's not a fanfic?

Apparently this individual never got the memo that the website is not for fanfiction any longer, and people are saving meta to it. And doesn't appear to understand the difference between fic and meta. Has our educational system gone that far down hill?

That's odd alright, agreed that it's a huge fandom, though perhaps they're talking about the original posting date?

One tip, I recommended that all meta pieces taking part in MMM use the Nonfiction tag there in addition to whatever other descriptive tags are used. That's because the type of meta varies (I have reviews, conference reports, meta essays, etc. for example) and the tag "meta" has been used by many fic writers as well. However Nonfiction covers all the bases.

Yeah, I remember - and it wasn't available as a tag. I had to add it. Or it wouldn't come up. Or it came up with something I didn't want. Whomever created the tagging in Ao3 didn't do a good job. It gave me a headache when I did it. Because I remember trying to hit non-fiction and running into error messages and all sorts of issues. So I substituted essays and reviews - this was back in February of 2020. I uploaded everything in February 2020 - so they may not have figured it out yet. [And I don't care enough to fix it. Be a lot of irritating work. ]

And I'd agree - on the meta bit, but I had tagged "essays", "reviews".

Although in this case? Mine was so obviously not a fanfiction it's laughable. The original posting date was 2011. I doubt most people in OUAT fandom posted to Ao3, I didn't until February 2020. I thought it was just a fanfic site.
