Pretty day - I went to the fruit and vegetable store to pick up eggs and cream for a quiche. It doesn't work that well with coconut and almond milk creamer. I had the Wholely Wholesome Gluten Free Crust - but alas it was in pieces. So, being somewhat industrious and resourceful, I pulled it together in a ball, tried to roll it out - but it stuck to the rolling pin - even though I used Paelo flour - it didn't work. So pulled it back together into a ball - put it into the glass guiche/pie pan and spread it out with my fingers and a fork. I figure it doesn't have to be perfect. It covered the pan, or rather the bottom and sides, not quite the rim - and it did pre-cook evenly. So, we'll see if it works with the filling.

Cooking as we speak or as I write, rather. As you can see - I like to cook, but I'm an intuitive, low-maintenance cook. If it has a lot of directions, ingredients, appliances, or prep - I'm not interested. At the video game developer - I used to have conversations with Tzatchi - who was the financial database manager for the company, he was in Israel. Every day, he'd come home to his family and fix a huge feast. It was his favorite thing in the world to do - to cook for his large family. We used to kid about when and if I got to visit, he'd invite to dinner and I'd get to experience true home-made Israeli cooking first hand.

Mother: I told your brother about your photography hobby.
Me: Oh.
Mother: He said if you really want a good camera - he can point you in the right direction, but that the iphone also works. I told him that you seemed to be happy with your phone. And had the eye for it.
ME: True. I wouldn't know what to do with an actual camera - I'd have to take a course.
Mother: According to your brother, the UK isn't letting anyone leave the country. People can come in, but UK citizens can't leave.
ME: odd, I hadn't heard that.

UK friends reading this? Care to chime in? Is this true? Is bro right - you can't leave the UK? I figure you would know, considering you actually are living over there. Assuming of course you are reading this? [See, put it in bold, so you might see it, and everything.)

I still might. I've been flirting with taking some art courses - and getting back into it. I find art relaxing, and the part of my brain utilized comforting. Hint? It's the non-analytical side.

Mother: The writing in this soap opera is horrible.
ME: Yeah, well...I admit it has gotten bad lately, everyone online is complaining about it.
Mother (laughing): It's beginning to tax my suspension of disbelief.
ME: yeah, we were discussing how it made no sense that anyone can go into this guy's hospital room.
Mother: Not only that - when they get the antidote they immediately give it to him - without testing it or anything. And really Brooklyn's fake baby is obvious - why hasn't anyone figured that out?
Me: Or how is that no one in Nixon Falls, PA can figure out the identity of the amnesiac mob boss who has a long criminal records and is a person of interest... with multiple police and FBI always after him?
Mother: I got to leave now [pause] I want to finish watching my soap.

Hmm, guiche came out looking tasty. Taking off for a bit to eat a slice.

Came out a lot better than expected, even better than the last one. Apparently layering with cheese, then spinach, then bacon pieces, and then egg and milk mixture was the perfect solution. I added red and black pepper, garlic salt, fresh dill and fresh basil.

In other news, had the oddest debate with a couple of commentators on Ao3, apparently they missed the memo on the site becoming a fandom archive for meta and fanfic, not just fanfiction? And assumed all posts were fanfic, even if it was rather obvious that they weren't? I don't know. The mind boggles.

Poster 1: This is the first fanfic for Once
Me: Uh, it's not a fanfic it's a meta or essay.
Poster 2: Wait, really? Because you wrote this comment a month ago and I see one fic older than it now, which means that someone must've backdated their fic recently. (it's backdated to 1950?? either a glitch or someone lied abt when they wrote this fic) Edit: I don't think that's the case actually. Can you see locked fics? Because the 1950 fic is locked and it seems like it's been shown as 1950 for a while now, so it's most likely you just didn't see the other fic.
Me: Also, it should be noted that my post isn't fan fiction. It's a "review" of a Once Upon a Time television episode. (I think you both may have commented on the wrong post by accident?)
Poster 2: Still, this is a website for fanfiction. I generally refer to all works posted here as fics, as I'm sure the original commenter was doing. This is the second fic posted in the OUAT tag, after all.
Me: It's not posted under a fic tag. It's posted under "review" and "meta" tag. Did you read the post? Also, I posted in direct response to the March Meta Matters Challenge. This isn't a website just for fanfiction any longer - that ceased in 2020 - with the March Meta Challenge - where they asked people to post meta to the site. I'd not have posted any of my meta otherwise. It shouldn't have any "fic" tags. It's obviously not fan fiction. It even states - "A Review of the first episode of Once Upon a Time". LOL! I even looked back and checked. It was dated 2011, which was when it was written. It is tagged as Meta, Reviews, and Essays. What the Fork?

Some people bewilder me.

Well, I now remember why I didn't smoke pot that often in school or since. It makes me incredibly woozy and sick.

To get rid of my irritable malaise yesterday (most likely brought on by my monthly period - which sometimes comes monthly and sometimes doesn't), I took a THC (aka weed or pot) gummie. I'd bitten just the head off of one of these tiny gummie bears, but no real effect. So like an idiot, I decided to eat a whole one. They are tiny. And for about an hour, I was fine. No effects. Then, all of sudden, wham - I got very dizzy or woozy, nauseous, etc. It was similar to being seasick. If you've ever been seasick - that's what it felt like, except without the ship or the sea.
Also, my fingers were numb, my feet were numb and tingly. My lips were numb. And I felt cold in places. It was 10 pm.

That's when I began to panic, and had to calm myself down. (I live alone.)

Once I vomited, I was better actually. The wooziness had at least stopped. So clearly - I'd gotten rid of whatever was in my system that was causing issues. But it had lasted for two hours. And I still felt off.

Since, I no longer felt like I was on the deck of a ship - I took my blood pressure - it was high, so I took the blood pressure pill. (The symptoms also fit low blood pressure.)

What I did was colossally stupid. Don't do that. They had warned me not to take a whole one - that it packs a wallop. And just take a tiny bit. Like just the head of one. Or cut in half. So what did I do? Like an idiot, I had an entire gummy bear and the head of one - or about 20 mg. Also I had a glass of wine - which did not help. I'd gotten used to the harmless CBD gummies. (Which I'm sticking with from now on.)

Anyhow, I think I'm going to push it to aside for a bit, and maybe not partake. Damn things are dangerous.

In COVID news?

New York has decided to make vaccines available to everybody, no appointment necessary. [They are getting desperate. They have 40% with one dose, and 33% with both, they want 80%.

It's critical for us to make the vaccine as accessible as possible and provide all opportunities for New Yorkers to get vaccinated. Beginning Thursday, April 29, all New York State mass vaccination sites will open to eligible New Yorkers for walk-in vaccination on a first-come, first-serve basis for all. The walk-in appointments are reserved for first doses only—second-dose appointments will be scheduled immediately after New Yorkers receive their first dose. This new approach means any eligible New Yorker age 16 and older will be able to walk into any mass vaccination site and walk out with a shot in arm, eliminating the need to make an appointment online or by phone. We'll continue to work 24/7 to get the vaccine to communities across the state so everyone can be vaccinated. So roll up your sleeve and let's get vaccinated, New York.

See?

New York will adopt the new CDC mask guidance for fully vaccinated people. Fully vaccinated individuals can conduct outdoor activities or gather without wearing a mask outdoors except in certain crowded settings and venues. Read the full CDC guidance.

This is kind of confusing. Does this mean I can now wander about my neighborhood and its environs, maskless? I mean, in Brooklyn, you can without warning run into about thirty people all at once. Also can I do the park?

I'm considering trying the park. But it's really hard not to wear a mask outdoors, unless I'm alone. Even though I'm fully vaccinated.

2. COVID hospitalizations rose slightly to 3,184. Of the 103,675 tests reported yesterday, 2,704, or 2.61 percent, were positive. The 7-day average positivity rate was 2.06 percent. There were 728 patients in ICU yesterday, down one from the previous day. Of them, 461 are intubated. Sadly, we lost 26 New Yorkers to the virus.

See, people are still dying. I mean New Zealand and Australia shut down with 26 cases. We open up if we have a less than 10% infection rate. LOL!

3. As of 11am this morning, 44.6 percent of New Yorkers have completed at least one vaccine dose. Over the past 24 hours, 152,118 total doses have been administered. To date, New York has administered 14,702,998 total doses with 31.9 percent of New Yorkers completing their vaccine series. See data by region and county on the State's Vaccine Tracker: ny.gov/vaccinetracker.

We're at 31% fully vaccinated, but the State wants 70-80% - or full herd immunity. Mother doesn't think we'll get to 50%. (No, because people are stubborn and somewhat idiotic. If they find they can't do anything, while others are wandering about freely - that may change.)

Ugh allergies are making me crazy tonight. I may need to put on the A/c to clean the air.

According to mother, niece went to her prom with a girlfriend, the girlfriend wore a tux, and niece wore a dress. Her friend really wanted to go to it.

Me: They had a prom. Was it outdoors?
Mother: No, indoors, but everyone was tested, and/or vaccinated.
Me: Her school?
Mother: No, another high school I think.
Me: Okaaay.

Niece doesn't appear to care that much about graduating, she figures she'll graduate when she gets her BA, high school doesn't matter. I think now that she has decided to stick at Simon Rock until she gets her BA through Bard College, and do foreign exchange stuff - she's stopped worrying about it?

I worry about niece, but alas, not my kid.

Mother got her CAT Scan today, and now her left groin is bothering her, her right is the injured one. And her left hip was already replaced.
I will not worry about her - can't do anything anyhow. Cousin posted a video about the reason his mother and her generation has hip replacements is they were all doing too many hip dances as teens. (I decided not to tell him that if they'd been doing hip dances as teens and adults, they most likely wouldn't need the surgery.)

Good night.
