The clouds cleared, and the sun came out in more ways than one. Also tonight, New York State is hosting fireworks across the State in celebration of the Essential Workers, reaching a state wide vaccination dosage rate (for the first dose) of 70% and lessening of the COVID Restrictions.

Meanwhile, crazy company chose to change its mind regarding the "return to work policy" again.

So they sent all my co-workers back into the office today. Then, decided after everyone came back - wait a gosh darn minute, wouldn't it make more sense for everyone to come back together on July 12 and adhere to the A/B social distancing schedule?

This is after we'd all given up on them. I had. As this was all taking place, The Governor was announcing state-wide fireworks to celebrate the end of the COVID restrictions, and the opening of the State, along with the 70% vaccination-rate milestone (first doses). (Vermont is ahead of us at 80%.)

Sigh, we've all got whip lash again. Bleeding management can't make up their minds. Although I am grateful - I'd rather return on July 12 on an A/B schedule with everyone else, than return on July 6, with everyone in the office and no social distancing.

Mother: What's an A/B schedule?
Me: A group comes in week one, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and on week 2, Tuesday and Thursday. B group comes in week one on Tuesday and Thursday, and week two on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Apparently my brother made my mother and himself pancakes tonight. She'd not had them in a while, and his daughter (aka niece) had bought pancake mix. While niece and sisinlaw hung out at the beach and had dinner there. Earlier, they visited my father, and my brother checked out rooms with mother - and helped her choose a new room to move my father into - a single, with nice light, a recliner, and a bathroom. Shower would be a community shower - but they have to help him shower anyhow. He can't do it by himself. It has a window on the court yard - so isn't noisy. They talked her out bringing my father home for a meal - because if anything went wrong, or if he needed help, it would be a disaster. Mother desperately wants to bring my father home with her - but its not possible. He needs full time around the clock care.

Mother: So your niece told me about her boyfriend.
Me: Oh?
Mother: He's six one, dirty blond hair that gets blonder in the sun, and blue eyes. Nothing else. That's it.
Me: In short, hot.
Mother: Your Aunt Said, Make that Hot.
Me: No, "In short, Hot"
Mother: Oh, "In short, Hot." [Pause] Your niece said "totally". Your brother and sisinlaw have been telling your niece not to go on the jetskies during her visit with her boyfriend at his family's place on a lake in Virginia.
ME: She's going on the jetskis. They know that, right? She's like her father.
Mother (repeats this to niece) You're niece's eyes lit up and she said, definitely.
ME: Yup.

I told this story to Wales.

Wales: What's wrong with jetskis? She'll be fine.
ME: Hey, I agree with you. I've no idea why they are worried about the jetskis. [I'd be more worried about my 17 year old daughter spending the night with a hot, six foot one, blond haired and blue-eyed boy. But then again she is their daughter - and not exactly doing anything they didn't do at 17.]

It's odd, I feel fine tonight. Happy even. Content. Light of mood. The world isn't pressing down on me. But nothing has actually changed - externally speaking. Work is still insane, etc. Which is leading me to think that the bouts of depression are definitely hormone related and linked directly to the onset of menopause. It tends to come on after a lot of hot flashes. When the hot flashes calm down, the depression goes away.

I have discovered that smoothies help. I've been fixing myself a smoothie each night after my walk and shower. It's yogurt, half a banana, peach, raspberries (or some type of berry), water, almond milk, plant protein powder (gluten free), and Maca. I think Maca may be helping. And I'm considering fixing this in the morning instead of at night - since it has an energy boost/ and mood boost. [I don't know if I've mentioned it? But I'm on a restrictive diet. No alcohol, no baked goods, no carbs, just fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, nuts, a little chocolate, cheese (sparingly), yogurt, and oatmeal. I might do blue corn chips or potato chips on occasion. No sweetened drinks. Just water, and the smoothies.] Low sodium, low sugar, and low carb.] I've replaced the alcohol with the smoothies. I'm going to see if I lose weight, have more energy and feel better under this diet. [Also completely off ice cream, quiche, pizza, anything rich in cheese or cream - it's been giving my gastro-intestinal issues.]

One of the reasons I'm thankful about the continued remote working or telecommuting - is that I can suffer the perimenopausal thing in peace, without any on-lookers.

The below picture is of a building that has been under construction throughout the pandemic, now it is finally completed, complete with landscaping. It's kind of odd seeing it now - when I was trying to photograph around the ugly green construction for so long. The Cemetery has also changed in small ways - there's less trees, also different flowers.
The gate keepers no longer wear masks, even though the sign says were masks at all times. But the current rule is no masks required outside.

The state of masks in Brooklyn is kind of the same. I take mine off and wear it around my wrist while walking outdoors, mainly because I rarely pass folks. There's actually less people on the sidewalks and in the cemetery this year than last year - which is probably because more stuff has opened up and they can do those things instead? My game plan is to do an excursion to the Botanical Gardens this weekend, and maybe get on a bicycle and ride around Prospect Park. (We have rent-a-bikes everywhere now, there's really no excuse except fear. Although to be fair - I've not ridden a bike since my twenties.)

Indoors - I wear it. Unless I'm in my apartment complex and no one is around. Everyone wears it indoors for the most part. It's still mandated for all public transportation, hospitals, doctor's offices, places like that.

Oh, and Bruce Springsteen is doing a limited Broadway Engagement from June 27 to September 4. Shakespeare in the Park resumes on July 7. And the July 4 fireworks will allow in person viewing. (I don't hear or see any fireworks where I am, so if they are doing them - they aren't doing them near me.)

COVID

By the numbers...

First New York and California opened today.

California, the first state to impose a lockdown in the U.S. after the outbreak, lifted most of its Covid restrictions and officially reopened today — one of the last states to do so.

While some restrictions have already been relaxed, and others will remain in place, the formal reopening of the country’s most populous state is yet another sign of the pandemic’s retreat in the U.S. and the nation’s turn toward recovery.

California recorded 63,000 virus deaths during the pandemic, more than any other state because of the size of its population. Restrictions were put in place early on, but it was not until an intensive vaccine rollout that the state managed to turn the corner: California now has one of the country’s highest vaccination rates (72 percent of adults) and lowest positivity rates.

New York lifts restrictions too. The state lifted nearly all virus restrictions on businesses and social gatherings after 70 percent of the state’s adults have gotten at least one shot.

Restaurants in New York will no longer be forced to space tables six feet apart or use physical partitions; movie theaters will be allowed to pack their auditoriums without spacing seats apart; and entering commercial buildings won’t require a temperature check.

With 70 percent of adults in New York having received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, the state took a major step toward normalcy by eliminating nearly all restrictions on businesses and social gatherings, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Tuesday.

The changes, which will take effect immediately, mark yet another milestone in the economic recovery of a state that was once an epicenter of the pandemic, and are expected to bring back the type of scenes familiar to most New Yorkers in prepandemic times.

With the order, the state, in most cases, will end capacity limits and no longer require social distancing, disinfection protocols and health screenings, instead making it optional for businesses to impose such health precautions on their premises.

Second.. according to the COVID Map of Doom - 2.4 billion vaccines have administered worlwide.

In the US:

311 Million vaccinated. That's pretty high, considering we have about 338 Million people.

There are 33.4 million cases

And 600,271 deaths in the US from COVID-19

UK has 72.6 million vaccinated. [They don't have as many people. It's a group of islands not a continent.]

With 4.5 million cases. And 128,181 deaths.

Global - it is 176.5 million cases, 3.8 million deaths

Although the numbers appear to be wrong for NY, so...take that however you want.

I don't know, I think we're opening up too soon. And I didn't see any fire works or hear any. So if they had them - they weren't anywhere near me.

Here's another picture of flowers.

Do you know what the new building is for? It seems like an office building?

For the owners' sake I hope it's housing alright, as that should be easier to fill than office space right now.

Great photos. Sorry your mom is having a hard time being realistic about your dad, but it sounds like he's getting good care. The smoothies sound delicious. I should go back to drinking one of my meals....
