Year 2 - Day 152 - Still Sleep Deprived
Aug. 17th, 2021 04:38 pmI should take a walk - it's nice outside, but I don't feel like it. Instead, I've gone to sleep in my chair at least twice while typing this.
I'm tired. Tried to go to bed earlier - but alas, it didn't work. I woke up at 5:30, and I didn't fall asleep until closer to midnight.
Dreamed about people in soap operas that I never watched. My analytical brain at one point - thought, wait a minute, what the heck are these people doing my dream. This makes no sense. And voila I woke up.
NYC is debating the vaccination mandate for all indoor venues, including museums. I updated my apps. I now have the vaccination card digitally saved on the NYC COVID APP and the NYS APP.
I was dozing off while writing this.
Mother: well, I get up at 5:30 am every morning.
Me: What time do you go to bed?
Mother: I don't fall asleep until close to 11:30-12 midnight.
Me: This not good mother. You need to be getting more than 5-6 hours of sleep if you want to heal. I worry about you.
Mother: I was napping during the day.
I napped for thirty minutes. 4:30 -5PM.
Mother has been regaling folks with the story about the guy who wanted to steal the sandals off my feet - to their utter amusement. I told co-workers and you folks. Maybe I should tell the folks on FB? Nah. FB is weird.
Mother: Your father was off-the-wall today.
Me: Oh?
Mother: he was telling me about some sexual orgy at his office, and some 15 year old who was coming on to him but he figured he was a bit too old for her.
Me: You think?
Mother: It was quite risque.
Me: Maybe he's horny?
Mother: I don't know - but he said that he felt the 15 year old was being inappropriate and told her to go away.
I'm wondering if my father has been watching the news? Alzheimer's, it's insane.
Me: Do you want anything for your anniversary on the 22nd?
Mother: No. Well, I'm tempted to ask for chocolates, but I really shouldn't.
Me: I'm tempted to send them to you, but I really shouldn't. I'm having troubles going off it myself.
Mother: Me too.
They finished residing and re-roofing the house behind me. It looks nice. Now if only they could do the rest of the houses.
Meanwhile I keep getting into annoying discussions with folks on the GH fanboard about characters. It reminds me of my discussions with folks on the Buffy boards.
Fan: Carly is horrible. Sonny forgot everything so he could get a break from Carly.
Me: Yes, it's all Carly's fault. Nina and Sonny are Saints. Carly is a horrible harpy that seduced mobster Sonny to the dark side, and made him breed nasty monsters...and deserves whatever she gets. (sarcasm heavily intended).
Fan: Team Nina is going to beat Team Carly, Team Carly better run!
Me: Well, actually Team Peter is going to burn Team Nina to the ground. (which is true actually - based on spoilers).
Fan: I am rooting for Nina and Sonny!
Me: You would root for Sonny and the Moss, you hate Carly.
Fan: Carly deserves everything that happens to her - based on what she did to AJ over 20 years ago - denying him his son, and drugging him and dosing him with alchohol!
Me: It was over 30 years ago. AJ since then had kidnapped Carly's and Alexi's kids, faked his son's death, beat his wife, caused Carly's miscarriage, burned down a warehouse, faked his own death twice, tried to strangle a woman...and was a misogynist. But hey, let's hate Carly instead since that's so progressive of us.
(Reminds me of fighting with the Spike haters in the Buffy fandom, and the River haters in the Doctor Who fandom. Let's face fans are the same no matter where you go on the internet.)
I told all this to mother, who watches GH and is a soap fan too - and is pretty much the main reason I watch it. So we can discuss it - or complain about it, one or the other.
Mother: Maybe you need to stop reading about Mike and Nina online - they are boring on screen.
Me: Yeah, I know.
Mother: Also a lot of people hate Carly for no good reason, what's up with that?
Me: How other people think never fails to bewilder me.
Sleep deprivation results in irritability. Also a desire to nap in the afternoon. And eat too much chocolate.
Work. Eh, it either can't stick to me, or it's annoying me. Oh well, I am happy about transitioning the non-construction related stuff over to other folks. I really wasn't looking forward to doing site tours for Lost & Found.
Mother: Why or rather how can you possibly do a site tour for Lost and Found?
ME: I don't know. Seemed odd to me too. But Jay insisted. Apparently they need to see where the items are deposited and stored prior to pick-up? They don't pick them up at those locations, they pick them up elsewhere. I questioned it, got shut down and gave up.
And now, it's being reassigned - right before I have to do one.
The Universe apparently isn't interested in me doing a site tour at the moment - it either puts the work regarding it permanently on hold, sends it elsewhere, or cancels it.
There's a lot of music festivals popping up in NYC at the end of August. I'm not a fan of live music - or rather, let me rephrase that - it depends on the venue. Most venues that feature live music or so I've found, suck beans. They have horrible acoustics, I can't make out the music or see it, the seating is uncomfortable, and I'm bored and uncomfortable as a result.
For me to enjoy music - I have to be comfortable, not distracted by other people, and the sound should be clear and not cluttered or compromised by poor acoustics, mic feedback, sound system interference or feed back, etc.
If all I hear is feedback what is the point?
I went to a Pink Floyd Concert at Denver Stadium in the 1980s and was horribly disappointed. I can barely see the band, even though we were standing on our seats. The sound was uneven and cluttered. The special effects were perhaps the only thing that worked.
While I saw an Aimee Man concert in a Bar in NYC and the seating was atrocious, it was smoke-filled (this was in 2003) and I found it hard to hear. We stood on a balcony and watched her. Also she's boring to watch, I'd rather listen to her albums.
And I've seen numerous ones in parks, you can't hear much in a park. Acoustics outside are miserable. There's feedback, chatter, and lots of screaming. Also miserable seating. I'm basically sitting on a blanket on hard grass, or swaying in a mob.
Or classical music at Lincoln Center - which actually isn't a bad venue, but classical music puts me to sleep. Because I used it to put myself to sleep for years. So does heavy metal electronica. I'm better off watching or listening at home - while watching folks dance to it.
Only decent concert that I've ever seen was in London, at Wembely Stadium in 1987 - Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush. I knew all their songs. And people didn't stand until the end. Also it had brilliant acoustics, and excellent seating.
I prefer musicals - I can hear them, there's dancing, and the venues are often better. Even if I can't hear them - there's usually something to keep me entertained. I'm more visual than auditory anyhow - which could be part of it. Don't know. I love music - listen to it all day long, five days a week. I just don't like concerts. I know I'm weird.
Considering I didn't go to concerts prior to the pandemic - don't see myself going now. Hmm, maybe when I retire, I should move to a small town in Vermont or Maine? And bike?
