Apparently the Boiler broke again in apartment complex. It's done it before - several years back actually. I discovered this when I returned from my Doctor's appointment and saw the sign in the window. "Boiler is off. We have a mechanic to fix it - it needs a part." This sign was up all day, and still up when I went out to pick up a few more things, and up when I came back around 5PM. Which was a tad disconcerting. So I asked the Super's wife ( who knows everything) - apparently the building is over 100 years old (pre-war building - so yes, I know, it was built in the 1920s during the last pandemic), and so is the boiler (I doubt it, it most likely was replaced in the 1950s or 70s). Anyhow the boiler is very old and it's impossible to find parts. They had to get someone all the way out on Long Island to come fix it, and it took a while for them to get here with the parts. It's a temporary fix - they need to replace it in its entirety after the holidays. (I thought they'd already replaced it - when we had issues with the heat and gas a while back. But I guess not. Lovely. If they do, I wonder if they can wait until the summer months - when we don't require heat in the building?)

On the bright side? It's been cooler in the apartment - I have poorly insulated windows (now, I doubt those have been replaced since the 90s). Although cold - resulted in sweat pants, sweater, turtle neck, socks. I stupidly wore the sweats, sweater and turtle neck when I went for a walk - and proceeded to sweat through all of the above (well not the socks). Had to take them off when I returned, and change. I'm doing laundry on Thursday (I hope - - not in the morning, it's too crowded, but the afternoon/evening should be fine. Always pick the time no one else wants to do it. People love to do laundry in the morning.)

Anyhow, they fixed it for the time being. So I can take a hot shower tomorrow and have heat now. As a result, I'm no longer cold. Or wearing a sweater and sweats, just joggers (soft, lighter sweats).

Doctor's appointment went well. Apparently the beta blockers did the trick in regards to my anxiety and my blood pressure (which I think were connected) - I think my blood pressure was in some respects causing the symptoms that I was categorizing as anxiety. Anyhow, blood pressure is down to normal levels.

Me: So, scheduled a flu shot and blood work.
Nurse: Let's wait until we get into the room, so not everyone knows your business.
Me: Okay, but clearly I don't care. (I don't. Everyone gets flu shots and blood work - it's hardly HIPAA, and I hear more intimate stuff from folks daily while they are talking on cell phones on sidewalks, trains, stairwells, bathrooms etc. You get used to blocking it after a while.)
Nurse: How tall are you?
ME: 5'11 and 44 inches or 6 foot. Either way, I just round it up.
Nurse: It's amazing that you know that.
ME: Well, I know it because people are constantly asking me what it is all the time. Kind of sticks in my head. I tell them 6 foot, makes them happy.
Nurse: You are a character.

Sigh.

They were under-staffed. Everyone is understaffed. We went from one extreme high unemployment rate and everyone struggling to find a job, to the opposite extreme - a labor shortage, where employers can't get good employees or get them to stay. It makes it hard to have much sympathy for the folks who are jumping around, jobless, decided to do what they love, or feeling entrepreneurial. "Yes, that's nice, I'm glad you always wanted to be a novelist (me too), but could you have kept the doctor gig just a while longer? I need the doctor (or nurse) more than yet another person publishing novels."

There was a little skirmish between two soap actresses, one who is very liberal (and a touch sanctimonious about it) and one who is very conservative but not sanctimonious. Both got vaccines. They were skirmishing over someone who didn't.

D said they'd miss the guy who didn't a great deal. And this was about loss. Losing someone they worked with - because of the mandate.

NLG responded - yes it's about loss, 5.8 million lives lost to this virus.

D wisely chose to remain silent.

I liked both responses, but I think the other one could have been kinder in how she phrased her response. They play best friends on the series - albeit are rarely shown together. Gee, wonder why.

Passed Cobble Hill theater - only to discover The Eternals is no longer playing there. I'm going to have to review plans with Movie Buddy regarding Saturday, I think. I've had that problem with plans throughout the past two years - they keep getting rewired.

After being freezing most of the day - I'm hot now? (The Doctor's office was freezing. I wore too light a jacket, and I lost my second favorite hat - so I was freezing on the way too (although at least had hat), and the way home (no hat - and walk was longer because stopped to pick up stuff). I decided to pick up Gluten Free Pumpkin Pie from Maine Pie Company - once again it was the last pie left. (This has become a pattern. Yesterday, I got the last Cornish Game Hen, today the last Pumpkin Pie. They had plenty of regular pies. The gluten intolerance is helping with the diabetes.]

I talked myself out of picking up any wine. I've been off alcohol since May or thereabouts. And my doctor told me it was probably better to stick with that, since I was kind of going the all or nothing route.

Still haven't lost any weight. I'm the same weight I was the last time I visited the doctor. How is this possible? The doctor thinks hormones. Ugh.
But hey, got the flu shot (so far just a sore arm - which was really only sore for a few hours, now its fine).

Kind of sleepy - didn't sleep well last night. So may go to bed early tonight, we shall see. Tomorrow - I got to find a time to do laundry. If not tomorrow, Friday.

The US is acting like the pandemic is over - folks are traveling for large gatherings for Thanksgiving, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is back.

IDK...there's an uptick in cases in various spots. But I'm also about as safe as I can get - safer than last year at this time.

Good that the meds are helping and hope the boiler gets fixed soon.
