Friday Five - which is about "teeth"

Do you brush your teeth at least 2-3 times a day?

Yes. Sometimes more. If there is food caught between my teeth or on it, I will brush until it is off. I can't stay the sensation. As a result, never had a cavity in my life (and I'm in my 50s.)

2. Do you whiten your teeth?

Using toothpaste that does it, only.

3. Have you ever worn braces?

No

4. Do you ever wish you had worn braces, or wish you had never worn them?

No. Having things on my teeth is problematic. I can't do tooth guards.

5. Have you ever made fun of someone with glasses or braces?

No. (Shudder).

What is something you are skeptical about?

I don't know, most things? A friend of my brother's once said that my family had more than a healthy level of skepticism. I analyze everything - it's kind of built in.

What is an unusual item you or somebody you know owns?

My brother has a backyard, Japanese, above ground, tub. I'm kind of drawing a blank here.

9. Does it bother you if someone practically bathes in perfume?

Yes. I'm allergic to perfume.

10. Have you ever won a trophy for something?

Yes, but I can't remember what it was for. I just know I did at some point.

I forgot about the monthly meme this month... The December list is full of not great questions. I can see why you did only a few answers. I'll probably do a shortened version tomorrow, just to say I did the year.

Yeah, I was going through the December meme a little over a week ago - and I'm like - eh, I don't want to answer that. Or I've no clue, mind's a blank. Or, WTF? Who comes up with this stuff?

Now I wonder what the most unusual thing is that I own. I have a cylindrical slide rule, some 8" floppy disks, a tiny guitar for hanging on Christmas trees, and an X-ray of my chest, but I can probably do better than that with a bit of rummaging around.

I'm drawing a blank for myself. But it may be that what some consider unusual - I don't? I mean I have a picture of a sunset in Costa Rica on my Birthday hanging on my wall - which many may consider odd. It's also the only picture hanging on the wall.

Have you ever won a trophy for something?

Not a trophy per se. The closest thing to that would have been in 9th grade, when my Jr. High had a "Hobby Festival" or contest or something, I forget what they called it, and I entered my bottlecap collection.

See, I envy your robust teeth, since mine were full of cavities by the time I was in Jr. High, since like most kids (and adults, for that matter) back then I drank sodas like water, and being all but constantly bathed in large quantities of sugar does not bode well for healthy teeth.

Or other health things, actually, but... that was then. My teeth are nearly all still in my head today thanks primarily to regular actions by dentists to keep them there. On the positive side, I did much better than my father, who was born in 1909. He had literally no teeth left by the time he was in his late thirties.

Anyway, I collected soda bottlecaps, had probably a hundred different ones. (When we traveled, I'd find local soda types and add them to the collection). I placed them all neatly arrayed on a couple of cloth-covered cardboard panels, and submitted them in the show.

I won a little ribbon thingy for "Third Prize", or maybe it was just an "Honorable Mention"? Dunno for sure, I'd have to see if I could find the thing, I'm sure it's stashed in a box somewhere. But it was an award, so.. go me!

But a more significant reward for somthing I did was a letter from a customer I came across just a few weeks ago while sorting through some old papers from my audio store days. I scan it and post an image on my blog sometime in the next few days. It was a very pleasing and rewarding moment for me.

What is an unusual item you or somebody you know owns?

Ohhh, that's not an easy one to narrow down. I don;t refer to myself as "The Random Archivist" for nothing, you know! Unusual items abound in my domicile. I have one in particular in mind, and likewise (as with the letter mentioned above) I'll get an image of it and post it soon, as words would fail to do it justice. It dates to my senior year in High School, and... I designed and built the thing.

What is something you are skeptical about?

I am deeply skeptical of the supernatural, particularly belief in deities, angels, demons, magic, the afterlife, etc. Mythology has its uses, and certainly for entertainment purposes has value, but...

Things we do not understand are such because we lack the data to explain them using logic, reason, the scientific method. Lack of such understanding, when married to human being's ancient, tribal based social tendencies or left in the care of narcissistic sociopaths has lead to staggering degrees of pointless, often horrific suffering for millions over the course of our history.

I want no part of such, and regularly give thanks for the blind luck of having inherited DNA that somehow inherently rejects such a worldview.

And to finish up with much less dramatic and more briefly answerable question:

Does it bother you if someone practically bathes in perfume?

Yeeeeaaahhggg!!!! Bleah! Bleah! Ohhhmiigawwd!

Folks? Easy does it there, okay? Just sayin'.

Curious to see the unusual items. It occurs to me that my definition of unusual may not be the same as someone else's?

Regarding the teeth bit? I'd say it was genetic - it's not. Everyone else has cavities. I do have teeth that tend to let food out faster than normal or so I've been told. (shrugs)
