Y2/D336 - Chatty
Feb. 15th, 2022 09:21 pmI was rather chatty at work this week. I think it is a result of living alone and only talking to mother on the phone, and everyone else through teams, or the computer or text messages. Although I also chat with the Super's wife, whom I get along with. She's going to ask them to replace my windows.
Chidi and I had an interesting chat today at work. He loved The Expanse, but his favorite character was Drummer, and mine is a toss between Naomi and Christian, although I also love Drummer. We were in complete agreement that the women characters were more interesting, the lead male character was kind of weak in comparison, and he really doesn't have that much chemistry with Naomi.
I have one season left. He'd just completed it. We both feel asleep during Foundation.
Chidi apparently has met several famous people, and had unsettling interactions with three - that forever changed his opinion of them. And he now, has issues with as a result.
Me: Who were the three? (Why I ask these questions I do not know. I'm too curious for my own good, that's why.)
Chidi: Cosby - who had weird energy and was kind of mean.
Me: Yeah, Cosby kind of did us all in. I grew up with him. I loved him - and only to find out...
Chidi: I know, right? The Cosby Show. I adored Cosby, I was going to name a kid after Cosby - if I had children.
Me: It broke my Dad's heart - he loved him. Even would quote him. There are also people who are still in denial.
Chidi: Making excuses for him and everything -- and I don't see how? I mean how can you excuse what he did? Some say other people were doing the same? Drugging women and..
Me: Exactly. So who were the other two..
Chidi: Chris Rock who is insane. Seems like a nice guy, right? But he's nuts. And Spike Lee - who is...
Me: Well he does have a reputation for being an arrogant asshole. Brilliant but an arrogant asshole with a chip on his shoulder.
Chidi: He was just mean. I used to get my hair cut at the same place he did, and we'd often end up getting it cut at the same time - he'd be sitting right next to me. I get that he treasures his privacy, but man, you don't have to be mean about it.
He's currently reading Marlon James "Seven Killings", which my brother read. My brother's read a lot of Marlon James, and adores him. I just can't right now - I'm building up to it though. Chidi like the rest of us hasn't read a lot of books over the pandemic - if it weren't for the audio books, I'd not have read any at all for a long time. But I love books so much - that I hunt ways.
Chidi also told me that a lot of friends keep telling him to buy a gun.
Me: You're safer without one. I honestly think we all are.
Chidi: I've no desire to own one, but my friends are buying them and even teaching their kids how to use them. (pause) My black friends. This city has gotten worse. It's not like it used to be - it's going down-hill.
He moved here in 03 from Alabama. He asked me what decade I'd like to live in as an adult. I told him the 80s and 90s. Anything before the 80s was too hard. But god knows ...

Work is still nuts. We had a teams meeting today in which my group figured out halfway through that the presenters hadn't a clue what they were doing, or the answers to any of our questions. They have this new process that they've been doing for two years now, and barely understand and were attempting to teach to us.
They also apparently gave out KN95 masks to one group but not to the other.
(My group.) Sometimes, I think they are trying to kill us. If so, they need to try harder. Nah, they are too disorganized to manage it.
Speaking of Masks - I almost forgot mine today. I left the apartment, made it halfway down stairs - only to discover something was missing. My mask. So went back up the stairs, scrambled to get one of the closet, put it one, and the damn loop wouldn't go over my ears, finally did, made it back down the stairs and to the subway. Which was running late. So I ended up running to catch the train.
Chidi thinks most people in NYC or visiting it - are predisposed to wearing masks. I don't know if that's true. Most of his friends are transplants not born and bred New Yorkers - I wonder if he realizes 90% of our co-workers are?

Warmer today, but not by much. I need to stop eating chocolate at work. Leo (a coworker) has Hershey chocolate bars in his filing cabinet that he gives out. And I keep eating them.
Well, that was fast - checked my email - and Amazon processed my Kindle Trade-In, I got $25 gift certificate, and 20% off my next Kindle. Now back to flirting between Oasis and Kindle Signature. Signature is smaller and lighter, Oasis has Cellular.
I may rename Twitter - Whiner. Honestly.
Things I've found out about on Twitter that I'd rather not know?
Hugh Hefner raped one of his girlfriend's dogs according to a documentary on A&E about the Secret Life of the Playboy. (I really could have lived without knowing that bit of information. I was trying to my mind around how he did this - and decided to stop. That poor traumatized dog.)
Some idiots feel the need to act on every dumb fantasy or idea that hits them, because they have money and power. It's nauseating.
Oops, it's gotten late again. Good night.

Date: 2022-02-16 02:13 pm (UTC)I've taken to keeping spare masks in my laptop bag, in the car, at work, etc. Maybe you can slip a spare in a jacket pocket and whatnot. I'm glad you remembered before you got far. It still surprises me I don't forget more.

UGH.
