Y2/D345...Dwindling Returns..
Feb. 24th, 2022 09:56 pmIn regards to the stock market that is, which mother keeps worrying over.
I'm blatantly ignoring it. I learned from my father - to ignore it, it will go up and it will go down because brokers are human and react emotionally to crap. It's like the weather - we've no control over it.
In regards to me? Better tonight. Wales texted and cheered me up, she was feeling blue too - so I shared photos which bro and niece shared of her trip to Barcelona. My mother got bro to share photos she sent him, and I pestered niece to share some with me.
Me: You owe me some photos, it's dreary here and I'm living vicariously through you.
Niece: Oooh no! I'll send you lots from Barcelona, we just left. It was amazing!

In one of the pictures, she's wearing a t-shirt with "Purple Rain" and then "Prince and the Revolution". I'm amazed, I loved Purple Rain - when I was a teen.
Anyhow...that cheered me up. I get along with my family. We're not living close enough to each other - to be in each others pockets, or do lunch as it were. But we get along. Which I guess is more than some could say?
Mother: I realize you need more people in your life other than your 79 year old mother, and co-workers.
Me: Yep.
Mother: So glad Wales texted you.
Wales was feeling blue too.
Work also went better today. I actually got a few things done. And something through the attorney - it still ended up with errors. I don't understand the attorney. He rewrites whatever we send him, but his changes have no added value, and he doesn't catch our mistakes. It's kind of pointless, if you think about it. Also, an odd metaphor for crazy org.
Commute was also smoother - trains were a touch more on time, and it wasn't as long a commute as a result. I chose to give myself a break from doing laundry having done it the last two weeks.
Knitting is actually coming along nicely. After I had to rip it apart five times, I finally got the hang of it. It requires a little patience to figure it out. And every once and a while I drop a stitch or do something funky with it. Previously I had bamboo needles - which are easier - in that the yarn doesn't easily slide down the things. But alas, I got rid of all my knitting supplies a little over four years ago. (It was taking up a lot of storage space in the closet - and I don't have much space to begin with.) I figure I'll just knit this scarf and go from there. It's oddly relaxing. Keeps me from eating in front of the tv or surfing the net.

More folks wandering about on the train and off without masks now. Also the Mayor has decided to lift the vaccine mandate for indoor activities (damn him).
I wish folks would get over their nasty stinky selves, and get the vaccine already. But alas folks are stubborn.
More cops on the trains and in the stations today. The Mayor's initiative to take care of the crime problem on the subways and trains, and get the homeless out of the stations, is clearly underway. I saw about six cops negotiating with a homeless person on the way out of Atlantic Terminal this afternoon. Also there were several Port Authority Police Officers navigating the Air Train concourse, attempting to get the homeless out.
The homeless does unfortunately aid and abet the crime problem. Most of them are mentally unstable or drug addicts or alcoholics - and they aren't nice about it. I stay clear of them. I've learned that - over time.
Every day I navigate my way around the homeless. My co-workers are afraid to walk around the Air Train building because of the problem. A lot of crazy crack addicts. One tried to knife one of my co-workers. I just give them a wide berth. Yesterday, a homeless man was drunkenly raging, and spitting soda all over the place - it was from a coke can. I had to work to avoid him and the spittle.

It's late and almost Friday, one day left in this short yet seemingly interminable work week. With any luck, I'll get my Addendum off tomorrow.
ETA: I talked to Moscow Co-worker today - asked if his family and friends over in Russia etc were okay. He said they were all over here, and his mother-in-law was in Germany, and from Belarus, so okay. Far from the problem. In short they escaped.
Here's a picture of Barcelona - at least I think it is Barcelona.

Date: 2022-02-26 04:24 am (UTC)Today there was a bunch of Port Authority Police officers surrounding a homeless guy squatting near a wall doing absolutely nothing. Motionless. Bent over in a squat. I think they may have been trying to figure out if he was dead. So it varies. One learns to pretend they aren't there in NY, along with the pigeons, etc.
