Turned fifty-five today.
Me: I've lived half my life.
Mother: Actually more than that. Unless of course you plan on living until 105.
Me: Uh no.
So starting year fifty-five. Here's hoping it's better than years fifty-four and fifty-three, which frankly sucked beans.
**
It rained. Not snow. Rain. So I was happy I took the day off. Also it rained in the apartment - because they need to fix the roof. It rained only in a very small section between the television and the entry way to my bathroom and bedroom and closet. And not that much rain - very little.
Probably because it came from the roof, which is three floors up. I'm on the third floor, there are six floors in the building. I have a feeling it was worse above me.
I slept until 7:30, got up, took a shower, made pancakes, watched television. Knitted, pulled apart knitting because I screwed up. It's still screwy - but better. Got flowers from Momma, and a card. With money. Because mother has given up on trying to figure out what we want. I was surprised I got money. It said from her and Dad, which was sweet. Talked to father - who was kind of lucid? I didn't talk to him for that long. The flowers required a bit of arranging - they came in a box from Pro-flowers along with a vase.
I tried to watch the film Drive My Car which has gotten rave reviews - but I fell asleep during it. (I admittedly did not sleep well last night.) I have no idea how I feel about the film - except that it put me to sleep. Clearly wasn't in the mood for it. I may re-watch Encanto - which I saw with mother over the Christmas holiday. It's apparently at the top of the music billboards, and for weeks held the number 1 and number 2 spot for "We Don't Talk About Bruno". Which amuses me to no end. They've even made parodies of the song.
I do like weird songs though...Beyonce's attempt at country is a favorite.
Daddy Lessons by Beyonce.
It's actually a really good song.
Also, love the song... The Lion Sleeps Tonight by The Tokens.
And these odd ones...
* Delta Dawn by Tanya Tucker (Although I first heard it by Helen Reddy)
* Angie Baby by Helen Reddy (which is kind of creepy when I think about it)
* Fancy by Reba McIntyre
And...
* One Tin Solider by Original Caste
Weird songs. I also like the much maligned Billy Joel tune - "We Didn't Start the Fire".

While I spent the day alone - with only greetings via the phone and computer, it went well. I was fine with that. It was pleasant. Plus, plenty of greetings. Even BYT texted me a birthday greeting. As did bro and niece.
Made me feel a bit more connected to the world around me. I always feel better mood wise after my birthday for some reason. It's kind of like the wind down around New Year's, I guess?
Also this is a wonky time of year - weather wise - it snowed where my brother was, rained here. I'd hoped to take a walk, but no, too nasty out. So just stayed in and relaxed. It helped actually to do that - to veg. I've been tired lately.

Here's the picture I took five years ago today, on my birthday in Costa Rica at exactly this time - 8pm. (I was born at 8pm apparently).

Date: 2022-03-10 02:26 am (UTC)There's a great multifandom vid to "We didn't Start the Fire." If I remember (and can find it!), I'll come back and post the link.
Well here's the Fanlore link: https://fanlore.org/wiki/We_Didn%27t_Start_The_Fire
Don't know if any of the links from there work.

Date: 2022-03-10 03:07 am (UTC)Apparently people have a lot of fun mocking, parodying and vidding We Didn't Start the Fire.
I don't blame them - it definitely lends itself to it. I just love it's unintentional mockery of itself, history, and the generational conflicts.

Date: 2022-03-10 02:46 am (UTC)I wouldn't call them huge favorites but I also like all the songs you mentioned, though I don't know Reba's and Beyonce's.

Date: 2022-03-10 03:05 am (UTC)Oh I'm not necessarily in love with the songs, nor are they huge favorites. But I like them. Story songs fascinate me. Also any song that isn't "oh my love has left me and what shall I do" or "I love her/him/them so...yes, yes, I do", is interesting. It's insane how many songs out there sound exactly the same.

Date: 2022-03-11 03:52 am (UTC)On the fence about Nina Simone's Pirate Jenny, though. It's in the Watchman soundtrack, and her album, so I ended up downloading it twice to my library and have heard it one too many times.

Date: 2022-03-11 03:45 am (UTC)The thing about big moments? Is I've often found it's not the big moments that change my life, but seemingly little ones...it's very odd.
Thank you. Better late than never, as they say.
