Once again, titles elude me...
Apr. 27th, 2022 09:06 pmOr rather, I'm blanking on them at the moment.
Facebook. Neighborhood page.
Realtor: So, I've retired from teaching and chosen to get back into real estate. If any one is looking for a home to own or a rental - I'm very good at this, and have helped many - also half the proceeds will go towards rescuing cats and dogs.
Poster: What about Humanity? Doesn't anyone care about humanity anymore? What are you going to do about the homeless? Are you going to help them? All you seem to care about is animals! Shouldn't you be helping your fellow humans?
Realtor: I'll have you know I've volunteered at food kitchens, not that I feel a need to defend myself or anything. Also I'm deleting this post now because of your hate.
Poster: What hate? I just want to know if you care about humanity??
Other posters: Well do you care? What are you doing about it? Also ignore this guy..obviously a troll.
Poster: I am not a troll.
Realtor: I will block you.
Poster: I don't care!
ME: I couldn't care less about Humanity. Let's all just donate to the animal shelters. Frak humanity. Selfish bastards.
[By the way, I still can't remember which is the correct usage "couldn't care less" or "could care less".)

Work
Coworker: we're all going to get the virus! Everyone will if they didn't get it already! There's nothing you can do about it. The Vice President got it.
ME: Who?
Coworker: what's her name, the VP, Harris.
Me: Oh, that Vice President. Well, she has been gallivanting about without a mask.
Coworker: Soon Biden will get it too -
ME: He also gallivants about. Kind of in the work description -
Coworker: Doesn't matter we'll all get it.
Me: Maybe not, not if we take precautions -
Coworker: Doesn't matter, we'll all get it. Nothing stops it. All of us.
Me: Okay, and on that delightful note I'm going back to work now.
Later..I repeat the conversation to mother...
Mother: He's right. They said on the news today that 80% of the US has had the virus. Some have had it more than once. Also my therapist advised that we shouldn't call this a vaccine since vaccines eradicate the disease like measles, etc, this is more like the flu shot -
Me: Eh, no. The flu shot is a vaccination. And it took the polio vaccine a while to work - it didn't happen immediately -
Mother: No, no, vaccinations eradicate, and shots are -
Me: Both are preventative measures. I've had a viruologist explain it to me - the vaccine tells the cells to fight off the virus. The virus tells the cells not to, and mutates them, causing the body to fight itself. But if you got sick with the flu or had the flu shot, or get the vaccine, the virus can't do that - and so you don't get as sick and don't -
Mother: I'm tired of talking. Good night.
Sigh.
She also tried to give me advice provided by one of her healthcare workers regarding multi-vitamins. Apparently the worker is in her 40s and taking them. (Been there done that, and was advised by my doctor not to do it any longer way back in 2018 - mainly because you can end up with an overabundance of certain things, and it can hurt you. Too much vitamin C effects medication interactions and blood sugar levels by the way.)

News.
I was watching NY1 for the weather and rail & road report. (Basically to see if there were any issues with the subways.) And it being an election year, they decided to interview one of the Republican candidates for Governor. (I wish they warned me first, I would have skipped the early morning news.)
Pat Kiernin (NY1 Broadcast Journalist): So, we have Andrew Guilini with us today, and you're running for Governor.
Andrew: Yes, I am.
Pat: How's it feel to be part of a legacy family? Can you separate from that?
Andrew: I don't want to. My father was the greatest mayor in New York. And I hope to be the greatest Governor.
Pat: And you worked in the Trump Presidency -
Andrew: Yes, I did. And I'm so proud of that ! I plan on bringing some of the great changes that Trump brought about in our country to NY State!
Pat: So you agree with Trump...
Andrew: Not 100% but I agree with most of what he did-
I turn it off. And think, "damn, I'm going to have to vote for Hoechel, aren't I?" Maybe I should have switched parties, so I could vote in the Republican primaries in order to keep these assholes from getting that far.

Trains were delayed again. This time due to a brake malfunction. I jumped to the Q - which was ten minute train ride, but twenty minute walk. It's about a mile from my apartment, as opposed to the G which is about a quarter of that distance, and a five to ten minute walk.
I may do it more often in the evening, if it's a nice day - since the walk isn't that bad - more people on the sidewalk, but it's beautiful, with tulips and flowering trees, and through an area that looks like Greenwich, Connecticut, as opposed to the G which is next to the Wallgreens, and Denny's pub, along with all these Bangladash stores. It has litter, homeless, men smoking, and food trucks. Also something threw up on the sidewalk - I don't know what - but it looks like it was a huge animal, and I really don't want to know what it threw up. I looked at it once, and regretted. So examining it again - is out of the question. I just give it a wide berth - not easy to do. They hadn't cleaned it up in two days. I'm hoping its gone tomorrow. So the Q isn't a great train, it is the old orange and yellow 1990s bucket seat trains, while the G is brand new, and cleaner as a result. (I informed my niece when she complained by the dirty A train on Saturday - that it was a 1990s train, which meant it was over thirty years old and in a system that runs 24/7.) That said, the Q is faster than the G (less stops), and the walk home nicer, however longer, and the station not as safe to get in and out of. It's down a bunch of steps, and outside on a narrow platform. Accessible, it's not. The MTA needs to fix that station. Pronto.

Contemporary romance novel has gotten better, surprisingly so. I may read more of this writer. Also she didn't make the mistake that annoyed me, again. Weirdly though - she leaves out scenes, and talks about them as if we read them. Such as the female lead goes to a baking class - but we never see her at it, and she has friends at it, who we never meet or see. She also is friends with and pseudo dating a friendly guy named Ernest prior to meeting the male love interest, who we also never see.
This annoys me in contemporary romance novels. We need those scenes to build character.
However, I do like the focus on the work - and the details on the workplace. A lot of them leave that out. And how the two characters work together.
I am curious, however, how the writer is going to get around the hurdle that the female lead works as a personal assistant to the admittedly hot and predatory male lead. There's a power imbalance there. And this is a 21st century romance by a "semi-progressive" writer. (I've read the version done by the boddice ripper style writers of the 1990s. The author I read, I'm blanking on - it's Judith something or other. I want to say Devereux, but that feels wrong somehow. Also I read the book about ten to fifteen years ago.)
I write more detailed books than this. I like details. They make me happy.
I want to see the world we're in. I want to know what songs the characters listen to, what they eat, what they do, etc. I may be reading the wrong genre?

Experimenting with ways to decrease blood sugar, yet still eat. Figured out that broccoli, spinach, greens, apples, nuts, almonds (in particular), cinnamon, water, oatmeal, yogurt, and eggs all help with high blood sugar.
Also exercise helps.
And tea.
My blood sugar did make it down to 90 today - courtesy of the hike home. But I also felt kind of "off", so am confused.
Why is it I feel at my best between 134-140, and at my worst between 70-130, and 150 and above?

Date: 2022-04-28 09:13 am (UTC)Well, it could just be other metabolic factors that are interacting, but one thing to keep in mind is that many/most of these consumer-level (as opposed to the lab-grades that doctors and hospitals use) devices are not extremely accurate. For example, the Bayer unit I use (finger stick type) is rated at around +/- 15% accuracy. So a reading of 100 could be as low as 85 or as high as 115.
Your meter may read consistently high or low, or vary. You may feel at your best between 135 to 140 because it's actually lower than that, and at 70 to 130 you're actually borderline hypo-glycemic.
The critical thing with using these devices in the real world is to plot trends, not specific readings at any given time. If your averages trend up over weeks or months, that means you must take action, either by altering your diet/exercise routines, or if necessary, seek or change medication.
Hope this helps!
