I got a new printer finally - Epson. Hopefully it will be better than the Lexmark. Was cheap, more or less. Certainly prints better than Lexmark, if I can get the paper gage to stay in place. Hate these things. There are days I miss my old typewriter. No, I'm not a luddite. But technology occassionally gets on my nerves, was never much of a gadget geek.

At any rate the new printer has allowed me to print off the last three posts, so I can read over them and figure out where in the heck I screwed up on the last one. I'm pretty sure I know and it should only take a bit of tweaking to fix it. Just doesn't work in my gut, which is more or less how I write from the gut. Will probably delete that previous post - or rather yesterday's live journal entry, eventually. So if you want to see it? Do it now. It will most likely be gone tomorrow or at the very least completely rewritten. Nice thing about livejournal is one can do this - delete and edit posts. Discussion boards? Not so much.

By the way - Gibson's book Pattern Recognition deals with the wonderful world of chat rooms and discussion boards. Quite well in fact. Just into the third chapter and am struck by how deftly he's captured it. Certainly captured why chat rooms don't work for me in a few quick sentences: "there are three people in Chat, but there's no way of knowing exactly who until you are in there, and the chat room she finds not so comforting. It's strange even with friends, like sitting in a pitch-dark cellar conversing with people at a distance of about fifteen feet. The hectic speed, and the brevity of the lines in the thread, plus the feeling that everyone is talking at once, at counter-purposes, deter her." (And me, very much me. The five times I've tried chat, I got overwhelmed and never been back. Course probably doesn't help that I have dial-up and while I can type 40 wpm, chat seems to move at 70 wpm.)

Haven't ever experienced the Coat Closet. Only chat I've experienced is on the ATPO board ( which overwhelmed me, possibly because the second time I went in I ended up in two private chats and the other chat all at the same time.) The other was MSN messenger - also not overly fond of. Too fast for me. Feel the pressure of the silences, the need for rapid fire sentences.

Not sure continuing with Pattern Recognition - Gibson has a writing style that requires a tad more concentration that I can give it at the moment. It's fine once you get into the rhythm, but it can be jarring.
